We discuss metabolic, neuronal, and hormonal cues that regulate hibernation and how they are thought to be coordinated by internal clocks. Last, we touch on questions that are left to be addressed in the field of hibernation research. The implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is effective for preventing sudden death in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. However, data on performance and complications of implanted ICDs over particularly long time periods to inform clinical practice is presently incomplete.
