Your LINC01119-SOCS5 axis being a critical theranostic within triple-negative breast cancers.
Between 1976 and 1983, in Argentina, among the 30,000 individuals kidnapped and killed by armed forces, several pregnant women delivered their children in captivity, who were illegally adopted by families with close military ties. To date, 130 of these children have been identified (named Living Disappeared, LDs) and reunited with their biological families. The aim of this review was to analyze the peculiarity of their traumatic experiences the specific factors of trauma resolution. We conducted a comprehensive search of the articles that specifically deal with Argentinean LDs. Fifteen records met the inclusion criteria. Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and traumatic memories were reported by LDs, both after and before learning the truth; the processing of trauma was found to be facilitated by verbalizing traumatic experiences, listening to others' narratives, and recognizing the belonging to a political community. The pathogenic relevance of the early exposure to trauma, the climate of lies, secrets, and doubts which characterized the life with the illegally adoptive parents and the conflict between two identities have been found. The findings come out on the side of the influence of the context in trauma resolution.Lung cancer is a heterogeneous and complex disease with the highest incidence and mortality rate. The present study aims at defining the lung cancer phenome specificity of lipidomic profiles, screening target lipid-dependent transcriptional alternations, identifying target lipid-associated target genes, and exploring molecular mechanisms. Lung cancer-specific and lung cancer subtype-specific target lipids palmitic acid (C160) and stearic acid (C180) were found as target lipids by integrating clinical phenomics, lipidomics, and transcriptomics and exhibited antiproliferative effects in sensitive cells. The metabolism-associated gene ACSL5 or inflammation-associated gene CCL3 was identified in lung adenocarcinoma or small lung cancer cells, respectively. C160 or C180 could upregulate ACSL5 or CSF2 expression in a time- and dose-dependent pattern, and the deletion of both genes led to the insensitivity of cells. Target lipids increased the expression of PDK4 gene in different patterns and inhibited cell proliferation through alterations of intracellular energy. Thus, our data provide a new strategy to investigate the trans-points between clinical and phenomics and lipidomics and target lipid-associated molecular mechanisms to benefit from the discovery of new therapies.PURPOSE Patient age has important clinical utility for refining a differential diagnosis in radiology. Here, we evaluate the potential for convolutional neural network models to predict patient age based on anterior-posterior chest radiographs for instances where patients may present for emergency services without the ability to provide this identifying information. METHODS We used the CheXpert dataset of 224,316 chest radiographs from 65,240 patients to train CNN regression models with ResNet50 and DenseNet121 architectures for prediction of patient age based on anterior-posterior (AP) view chest radiographs. We evaluate these models on both the CheXpert validation dataset and a local hospital case in which a patient initially presented for emergency services intubated and without identification. RESULTS Mean absolute error (MAE) for our ResNet50 model on the CheXpert dataset is 4.94 years for predicting patient age based on AP chest radiographs. MAE for our DenseNet121 model is 4.69 years. Both models have a correlation coefficient between true patient ages and predicted ages of 0.944. Wilcoxon rank-sum comparison between the two model architectures shows no significant difference (p = 0.33), but both show improvement over a baseline demographic-driven estimation (p  less then  0.001). CONCLUSIONS For circumstances in which patients present for healthcare services without readily accessible identification such as in the setting trauma or altered mental status, CNN regression models for age prediction have potential clinical utility for refining estimates related to this missing patient information. In this survey endorsed by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), we aimed to describe the practice patterns of intensivists worldwide, regarding their diagnosis and management of respiratory viruses in lower respiratory tract infections. There were 229 respondents from 53 countries, mainly in Europe (78%). Pemetrexed manufacturer Our main findings are that a majority of intensivists (i) searched for respiratory viruses in case of severe community-acquired LRTI in adults, whatever the season and the medical history and clinical presentation; (ii) had access to large-panel respiratory mPCR; (iii) used them as first-line diagnostic test in routine practice; (iv) had some knowledge about the panel of the mPCR that they use, but markedly less about the cost. However, we observed strong heterogeneity regarding how intensivists took into account mPCR results for infection control (confinement measures) and patient care (antiviral treatment and antibiotics management).Due to increasing oil prices and climate change concerns, biofuels have become increasingly important as potential alternative energy sources. However, the use of arable lands and valuable resources for the production of biofuel feedstock compromises food security and negatively affect the environment. Single cell oils (SCOs), accumulated by oleaginous yeasts, show great promise for efficient production of biofuels. However, the high production costs attributed to feedstocks or raw materials present a major limiting factor. The fermentative conversion of abundant, low-value biomass into microbial oil would alleviate this limitation. Here, we explore the feasibility of utilizing microalgae-based cell residues as feedstock for yeast oil production. We developed an efficient, single-step enzymatic hydrolysis to generate Scenedesmus obtusiusculus hydrolysate (SH) without thermo-chemical pretreatment. With this eco-friendly process, glucose conversion efficiencies reached 90-100%. Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosus, Cryptococcus curvatus and Rhodosporidium toruloides were cultivated on SH as sole nutrients source. Only C. oleaginosus was able to accumulate intracellular lipids, with a 35% (g lipid/g DCW) content and a yield of 3.6 g/L. Our results demonstrate the potential valorization of algal biomass into desired end-products such as biofuels.BACKGROUND Metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to the gallbladder is rare, and its clinicopathological feature remains poorly understood. We here present two cases of gallbladder metastasis from RCC presenting as a hypervascular polypoid lesion. CASE PRESENTATION The first case was a 73-year-old man who had undergone right nephrectomy for clear cell RCC. Imaging studies detected a hypervascular polypoid lesion in the gallbladder 6 years after nephrectomy. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was done. The pathological findings of the polypoid lesion showed proliferation of clear cells in the submucosal layer. Immunohistochemically, the tumor was positive for carbonic anhydrase 9 (CA9) but negative for cytokeratin 7 (CK7), suggestive of metastatic RCC. The second case was a 43-year-old man who had undergone right nephrectomy for clear cell RCC. Imaging studies revealed a hypervascular polypoid lesion of 20 mm in diameter in the gallbladder 1 year after nephrectomy. The patient underwent expanded cholecystectomy and extra-hepatic bile duct resection with lymphadenectomy. Microscopically, the polypoid lesion of the gallbladder was composed of clear cells in the submucosal layer. Immunohistochemical analysis showed positive staining for epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) but negative staining for CK7, leading to the diagnosis of metastatic RCC. CONCLUSIONS Gallbladder metastasis from RCC is rare but should be considered when a hypervascular polypoid lesion in the gallbladder is detected during the follow-up period after RCC treatment.Tobacco smoking, a risk factor for several human diseases, can lead to alterations in DNA methylation. Smoking is a key source of cadmium exposure; however, there are limited studies examining DNA methylation alterations following smoking-related cadmium exposure. To identify such cadmium exposure-related DNA methylation, we performed genome-wide DNA methylation profiling using DNA samples from 50 smokers and 50 non-smokers. We found that a total of 136 CpG sites (including 70 unique genes) were significantly differentially methylated in smokers as compared to that in non-smokers. The CpG site cg05575921 in the AHRR gene was hypomethylated (Δ ß >  - 0.2) in smokers, which was in accordance with previous studies. The rs951295 (within RNA gene LOC105370802) and cg00587941 sites were under-methylated by > 15% in smokers, whereas cg11314779 (within CELF6) and cg02126896 were over-methylated by ≥ 15%. We analyzed the association between blood cadmium concentration and DNA methylation level for 50 smokers and 50 non-smokers. DNA methylation rates of 307 CpG sites (including 207 unique genes) were significantly correlated to blood cadmium concentration (linear regression P value  10% in smokers compared to that in non-smokers. In conclusion, our study demonstrated that DNA methylation levels of rs951295, cg00587941, cg11314779, and cg02126896 sites may be new putative indicators of smoking status. Furthermore, we showed that these four loci may be differentially methylated by cadmium exposure due to smoking.Real-time biofeedback is a promising post-stroke gait rehabilitation strategy that can target specific gait deficits preferentially in the paretic leg. Our previous work demonstrated that the use of an audiovisual biofeedback interface designed to increase paretic leg propulsion, measured via anterior ground reaction force (AGRF) generation during late stance phase of gait, can induce improvements in peak AGRF production of the targeted and paretic limb of able-bodied and post-stroke individuals, respectively. However, whether different modes of biofeedback, such as visual, auditory, or a combination of both, have differential effects on AGRF generation is unknown. The present study investigated the effects of audio only, visual only, or audiovisual AGRF biofeedback in able-bodied and post-stroke individuals. Seven able-bodied (6 females, 27 ± 2 years) and nine post-stroke individuals (6 females, 54 ± 12 years, 42 ± 26 months post-stroke) completed four 30-s walking trials on a treadmill under 4 conditions no biofeedback, audio biofeedback, visual biofeedback, or audiovisual biofeedback. Compared to walking without biofeedback, all three biofeedback modes significantly increased peak AGRF in the targeted and paretic leg. There was no significant difference in peak AGRF between the three biofeedback modes. Able-bodied individuals demonstrated greater feedback-induced increase in stride-to-stride variation of AGRF generation during audio biofeedback compared to visual biofeedback; however, similar results were not observed in the post-stroke group. The present findings may inform future development of real-time gait biofeedback interfaces for use in clinical or community environments.
