The properties of silk can be further enhanced by a multitude of methods, including nano particle feeding, which is convenient and green. Generally, the filament length of a silkworm cocoon ranges from 1300 to 1700 m. Despite the fact that the filament size, a key factor affecting the mechanical properties of silk, varies along the length, evaluation of strengthened silk by segment and the specific distribution along the length has not been reported. Therefore, in the present study, we fed silkworms with graphene oxide-sprayed mulberry leaves and evaluated the silk properties segment by segment. The silk's strength and elongation were significantly enhanced, with more α-helical/random coils and thicker mesophase regions. Specifically, the silk from 2‰ GO-treated group had higher strength in the first 60% of the length, whereas the silk from 1‰ GO-treated group was stronger in the last 40% of the length. Notably, the silk from 1‰ GO-treated group had the highest strength and Young's modulus in the last 20% of the length, indicating that this segment is more suitable for use as a surgical suture. Our findings demonstrate that different silk segments offer a great range of desirable assets, and the feasibility to select a specific segment with the desired properties for a specific application.
Spinal intradural tumors can be classified as intradural extramedullary or intramedullary tumors. Spinal meningiomas are among the most frequent intradural, extramedullary tumors (IDEMs), representing 12 % of all meningiomas and 25-45 % of all intradural spinal tumors.

A large single center retrospective analysis of 166 consecutive spinal meningioma patients during a 29-year period (1989-2018).

The authors used a diode laser and an analytical cavity with two pairs of mirrors with reflectivity of 99% and 99.98% in the ~1.4 μm region. Water vapor at reduced pressure (0.03-1) Torr served as an absorbing medium. A high spectral resolution was obtained by directing laser radiation into the cavity with a small offset relative to its axis (off-axis ICOS). Limitations on the frequency tuning rate were discussed using quantitative absorption spectroscopy methods for measuring molecule concentrations.A simple hydroxyl-substituted triphenyl-imidazole based receptor (HTPI) which selectively detects Cu2+ ion by colorimetric and fluorimetric methods was developed. Laparoscopic reoperation of postoperatively diagnosed gallbladder cancer is a technically challenging procedure due to inflammatory adhesion or fibrosis around the hepatoduodenal ligament and gallbladder bed [1,2]. Here we describe a technique for laparoscopic bile duct resection with lymph node dissection in a patient with cystic duct cancer diagnosed after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

A 73-year-old woman presented with postoperatively diagnosed gallbladder cancer. She underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy to treat symptomatic gallbladder stones at another hospital, 2 months earlier. Postoperative pathology revealed a 0.9×0.7 cm, T2 lesion of adenosquamous carcinoma located at the cystic duct. The cystic duct margin showed high-grade dysplasia. We planned to perform laparoscopic bile duct resection with lymph node dissection. After adhesiolysis to expose the hepatoduodenal ligament, the lymph nodes were dissected around the retropancreatic area, hepatoduodenal ligament, and common hepatic artery in an en bloc fashion. Combined segmental resection of the bile duct, including the fibrotic scar around the cystic duct stump, was completed with negative resection margins. Retrocolic choledochojejunostomy and side-to-side jejunojejunostomy were then performed intracorporeally.

The operation time was 195 minutes and the estimated intraoperative blood loss was minimal. The postoperative pathologic report revealed no residual tumor tissue and negative resection margins. Lymph node metastasis was found in one of eight retrieved lymph nodes. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 4 with no postoperative complications.

Minor laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) is currently becoming standard treatment option for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) while major LLR is still challenging. Recent advancement of surgical techniques has enabled surgeons to perform major LLR. This study compared the outcomes of major LLR for HCC before and after the adaptation of technological improvements.

We retrospectively analyzed 141 patients who underwent major LLR for HCC from January 2004 to July 2018.32 open conversion cases were excluded. We divided the patients into two groups according to the date of operation Group 1 (n=38) and Group 2 (n=71) who underwent major LLR before and after 2012, when advanced techniques including the use of intercostal trocars, Pringle maneuver, and semi-lateral position of patient were introduced. link3 We also compared these patients including open conversion cases (n=141) with those who underwent major open liver resection (OLR; n=131) during the same period.

Mean operative time (413.0min vs 331.0min; P=0.009), transfusion rate (31.6% vs 11.3%, P=0.009) and hospital stay (9.8 days vs 8.5 days; P=0.001) were significantly less in Group 2. Intraoperative blood loss (1269.7ml vs 844.5ml; P=0.341) and postoperative complication (15.8% vs 23.9%; P=0.320) were not significantly different between the groups. Although tumor size in OLR group and type of resection was different, transfusion rate (36.6% vs 24.1%; P=0.026), postoperative complication (41.2% vs 25.5%; P=0.007), and hospital stay (17.2 days vs 10.0 days; P<0.001) were significantly lower in LLR group.

Complicated electrolyte composition restricts the scale-up recovery and application of protic ionic liquid such as triethylammonium hydrogen sulfate [TEA][HSO4] in biomass-related research. Recovery of [TEA][HSO4] after Ionosolv pretreatment for miscanthus powder was studied using bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BMED) assisted with ultrafiltration (UF) by the divisional recovery of TEA+ as TEA and recovery of SO42- as H2SO4 in different BMED compartments. Hence accurately-controlled regeneration of [TEA][HSO4] could be realized. Influence of current density and feed concentration of BMED module was studied in detail. In this study, the highest recovery ratio for TEA+ and SO42- reached 93.7% and 96.4%. The lowest energy consumption of specific [TEA][HSO4] recovery was about 6.2 kwh/kg. Insight gained from this study suggests a potentially industrial methodology for complicated protic ionic liquid recovery after biomass processing.
