Thin-cap fibroatheroma was less prevalent (p = .023), fibrous cap was thicker (p = .035), and mean lipid arc was narrower in CP than in PR (p less then .001). Methods The existing BAUS guideline on the insertion of suprapubic catheters was reviewed and has been updated in light of both activity and outcome data published since the original guideline was written. A systematic review of all new data from 2010 onwards was carried out. This updated guideline is largely evidence-based but, where evidence was lacking, is based on the consensus of expert opinion from members of the BAUS Section of FNUU (Female, Neurological and Urodynamic Urology). Results Suprapubic catheterisation is widely used and generally considered a safe procedure. There is however a small risk of serious complications including bowel injury. BAUS has produced an updated consensus statement on SPC use with the aim of minimising risks and establishing best practice. Areas for future research and development are also highlighted. This review has been commissioned and approved by BAUS and the Section of Female, Neurological and Urodynamic Urology. Conclusions While SPC insertion is generally regarded as a safe procedure, the risk of serious morbidity and death must always be considered and outlined to patients. On the other hand, asymmetric catalysis represents an economic method to satisfy the increasing need for enantioenriched compounds in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Therefore, combining visible light photocatalysis with asymmetric catalysis creates a wider range of opportunities for the development of mechanistically unique reaction schemes. However, there arise two main problems like undesirable photochemical background reactions and difficulties in controlling the stereochemistry with highly reactive photochemical intermediates which can pose a serious challenge to the development of asymmetric visible light photocatalysis. In recent years, several methods have been developed to overcome these challenges. This review summarizes the recent advances in visible light-induced enantioselective reactions. We divide our discussion into four categories Asymmetric photoredox organocatalysis, asymmetric transition metal photoredox catalysis, asymmetric photoredox Lewis acid catalysis and asymmetric photoinduced energy transfer catalysis. Special emphasis has been given to different catalytic activation modes that enable the construction of challenging carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond in an enantioselective fashion. A brief analysis of substrate scope and limitation as well as reaction mechanism of these reactions has been included.Proteins are essential and abundant components of cellular membranes. Being densely packed within the limited surface area, proteins fulfil essential tasks for life, which include transport, signalling and maintenance of cellular homeostasis. The high protein density promotes nonspecific interactions, which affect the dynamics of the membrane-associated processes, but also contribute to higher levels of membrane organization. Here, we provide a comprehensive summary of the most recent findings of diverse effects resulting from high protein densities in both living membranes and reconstituted systems and display why the crowding phenomenon should be considered and assessed when studying cellular pathways. Biochemical, biophysical and computational studies reveal effects of crowding on the translational mobility of proteins and lipids, oligomerization and clustering of integral membrane proteins, and also folding and aggregation of proteins at the lipid membrane interface. The effects of crowding pervade to larger length scales, where interfacial and transmembrane crowding shapes the lipid membrane.
