c_0000231/miR-135a-5p/CLIC4 axis might provide a novel insight to develop effective strategy for AS treatment.Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are typical toxic organic pollutants that can accumulate in sediments and may be toxic to aquatic organisms. In the present study, the contamination level, composition pattern, and sources of sixteen PAHs listed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency were investigated in surface sediments and a sediment core from Daihai Lake, which is located in a typical semiarid area of Inner Mongolia, China, and the ecological risk of these PAHs was assessed. The results show that the total concentration of PAHs in the surface sediments ranged from 204.6 to 344.5 ng/g with an average value of 287.2 ng/g and that compared with other aquatic systems, the level of PAHs in the sediments from Daihai Lake was low. However, a general upward trend was observed for the concentrations of PAHs in the sediment core, which might be related to the increase in human activities in the area. Moreover, the PAH concentrations were significantly positively correlated with the total organic carbon (TOC) content in the sediments, and it is thus inferred that TOC regulates the distribution of PAHs in Daihai Lake. Three-ring and four-ring PAHs were found to be predominant in all the sediment samples, and phenanthrene (Phe) was the most abundant compound. According to the composition of PAHs and the anthracene (Ant)/(Ant+Phe) or fluoranthene (Flt)/(Flt+pyrene (Pyr)) ratios, the PAHs in Daihai Lake mainly originated from the combustion of domestic coal, grass, and wood, and petroleum cannot be ignored as a source considering the growth of industry. Risk assessment based on a comparison of PAH concentrations and the effect range low (ERL) and effect range median (ERM) values demonstrated that acenaphthene (Ace) at 11 sites and fluorene (Flu) at 7 sites had occasional adverse biological effects.The marginal populations of the Sahara blue-eyed pond turtle, Mauremys leprosa saharica (Testudines Geoemydidae) in the pre-Saharan area in the Lower Draa Valley, are faced to extreme environmental conditions of arid climate and anthropogenic activities including overuse of water and land salinization. In this study, we investigated a small isolated population of the blue-eyed pond turtle at Sidi El Mehdaoui Oasis, Lower Draa Valley, to determine its population structure and morphometric characteristics. Water salinity was about 24% of seawater and dissolved oxygen concentration was less than 3 mg l-1 (sub-hypoxia). The average body size of adults (carapace length) was much lower in comparison to other Moroccan populations. Among adult individuals, the mean carapace lengths were 103 ± 21 mm and 104.4 ± 35 mm for males and females, respectively. The corresponding mean body mass were 173 ± 92.4 g and 135 ± 52 g. There were no significant differences between sexes for size or weight. The studied population is small, with a predominance of adults (75%). A significant sexual size dimorphism was found. In fact, the Sexual Dimorphism Index for size had the lowest level ever described for the species possibly because of the low productivity of this marginal isolated habitat. The increased drought and salinization are major threats to the long-term persistence of the vulnerable populations of the Saharan blue-eyed pond turtle and their habitats. Therefore, conservation measures of these populations through the protection of their habitats are very urgent.This work proposes a novel approach for the coupling of ozonation and Fenton processes using a new prototype of a high rotation bubble reactor (HRBR), which improves utilization of the ozone and hydrogen peroxide through bubble generation and axial and radial dispersion of the flow. The HRBR integrates the rotor and the diffuser in the same device facilitating the generation and dispersion of the ozone bubbles inside the reaction tank. Thus, the mass transfer to the liquid phase is enhanced. Most of the experiments were carried out under neutral pH and 1580 rpm of agitation during the 20 min of reaction. Total ibuprofen degradation was achieved within 20 min of operation for most of the couplings and individual processes evaluated. It was successfully demonstrated that the HRBR can be used as a reactive system for heterogeneous Fenton and ozonation coupling because it presents a high synergy. For the ozonation process, the reactor also displayed a good performance because the residual ozone in the gas is lower than 0.4 mg/L, which indicates that there is a suitable ozone utilization. Ibuprofen degradation by other processes like oxidation direct by H2O2 and heterogeneous Fenton was 28.0% and 73.1%, respectively. It was determined that the reaction rate, synergy, OUI (ozone utilized index), and consumption of electrical energy (EE/O) of the coupled processes could be improved by using the HRBR depending on the experimental conditions.In the current work, a deep study to understand the adsorption phenomena occurring in single and multicomponent systems was conducted by using spectroscopic characterization, and computational tools. The experimental results showed that the adsorption capacity of chili seed is higher for Pb2+ (48 mg/g) than Cu2+ (4.1 mg/g) ions in single systems. However, the adsorption study in multicomponent systems provides important conclusions of the concentration effect of the metal ions, showing a significant antagonistic and competitive effect of both ions under equivalent concentrations of them (qPb2+ is 56% reduced) or high concentration of Pb2+ (qCu2+ is 50% reduced). buy Guanosine Computational results correlated well with the experimental ones and evidenced all interactions proposed from spectroscopy results, accounting for the occurrence of complexation and electrostatic mechanisms between metal ions and the surface oxygenated functional groups (hydroxyl, carboxyl, and carboxylate) onto chili seed.
