In summary, the excellent properties of Cu(ii) loaded PDA NPs made them a safe and effective drug for preventing wound infection and promoting healing.3D spheroid cultures are attractive candidates for application in in vitro drug-induced hepatotoxicity testing models to improve the reliability of biological information obtainable from a simple 2D culture model. Various 3D spheroid culture models exist for hepatotoxicity screening, but quantitative assays of spheroid response in situ are still challenging to achieve with the current 3D liver toxicity platforms. In this study, we developed a 3D printing-based HepG2 liver spheroid culture model for in situ quantitative evaluation and high-content monitoring of drug-induced hepatotoxicity. HepG2 liver spheroids grown in mini-fabricated hydrogel constructs using a 3D bioprinter were used to obtain the EC50 values and to measure the multi-parametric hepatotoxic effects, including mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT), cytosolic calcium levels, and apoptosis. Interestingly, the average fluorescence intensities of apoptotic and cell death markers, calculated for out-of-focus and in-focus spheroids, increased proportionally as a function of the drug concentration, allowing for the determination of the EC50 values. In addition, 3D HepG2 spheroids were more resistant to nefazodone-induced MPT than 2D HepG2 cells, indicating that the gelatin/alginate hydrogel culture system provides enhanced resistance to hepatotoxic drugs. The drug response of HepG2 liver spheroids was also found to be unrelated to the spheroid size. These results demonstrate that the present 3D cell-printing-based embedded HepG2 liver spheroid platform is a promising approach for screening and characterizing drug-induced hepatotoxicity.Cyclodextrin-based liquid crystals and their emerging applications are described in this tutorial review, which covers reports from the last decade with a focus on recent developments. Although cyclodextrins are among the best studied macrocyclic host molecules and liquid crystals have found widespread technological application, the integration of cyclodextrins in liquid crystals as versatile supramolecular materials has been barely explored. However, in the last few years promising innovations in molecular design as well as proof-of-concept applications such as ion-conductive and proton-conductive liquid crystals, nanoparticle additives for liquid crystal display technology, polyrotaxane-based liquid crystals and liquid crystal-based sensors have been reported. We discuss various examples of cyclodextrin-based liquid crystals that demonstrate the significant potential of these unique soft materials for future research and interdisciplinary applications.Ascorbic acid (AA) is an indispensable vitamin for the human body and is associated with critical processes of human metabolism. However, excessive intake of AA can also have a negative impact on human health. Nitrite is a commonly used food additive, and its overdose can increase the risk of cancer. Therefore, the detection of nitrite and vitamins is generally recognized to be meaningful. In this study, red-fluorescence and yellow-fluorescence CDs (r-CDs/y-CDs) were synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method using o-phenylenediamine as the only carbon source. These two types of CDs exhibited good detection accuracy, detection limit and selectivity towards nitrite and AA (the detection limits are 0.47 μM and 45.1 μM, respectively). The long wavelength luminescent CDs prepared in this experiment also have high quantum yield (QY), which is of great significance to the visual detection effect. Under weak acidic conditions, the amino group on the surface of r-CDs can coordinate with nitrite and react to generate diazo groups, leading to the fluorescence quenching of CDs. The coordination between the y-CDs and the amino group on the surface of AA connects the adjacent y-CDs to form aggregates, which increases the non-radiative transition of electrons and induces the fluorescence quenching of CDs. This study proposes a new idea for the preparation of carbon dots for the determination of NO2- and AA in solutions, which expands the application of fluorescent CD detection. The cultivation of cells forming three-dimensional structures like organoids holds great potential in different fields of life sciences and is gaining increasing interest with regards to clinical applications and personalised medicine. However, conventional hydrogels used as cell cultivation matrices (e.g. Matrigel®) contain animal-derived components in varying quantities, implicating low reproducibility of experiments and limited applicability for clinical use. Based on the strong need for developing novel, well defined, and animal-free hydrogels for 3D cell cultures, this study presents a comprehensive analysis of pancreas organoid cultivation in two synthetic hydrogels. Besides established visualisation techniques to monitor organoid formation and growth, confocal Raman microscopy was used for the first time to evaluate the gel matrices and organoid formation within the gels. AS101 purchase The approach revealed so far not accessible information about material-cell interactions and the composition of the organoid lumen in a non-invasive and label-free manner. Confocal Raman microscopy thereby enabled a systematic characterisation of different hydrogels with respect to cell culture compatibility and allowed for the rational selection of a hydrogel formulation to serve as a synthetic and fully defined alternative to animal-derived cultivation matrices.Diabetes mellitus has received much attention because its complications include liver, kidney, eye, heart and cerebrovascular diseases. Thus, it would be highly significant to develop a rapid and efficient method for glucose detection in biological samples. In this work, a point-of-care testing (POCT) method of glucose detection was proposed using a standard colorimetric card for semi-quantitative determination patterns. In the prepared fluorescence color card for glucose, a good linear relationship was acquired by plotting the ratio of the grayscale value (I/I0) versus the logarithm of glucose concentration within 100.0 to 1000.0 μmol L-1, and the LOD of glucose detection was 1.1 μmol L-1. A large number of actual samples (30 serum and 7 urine) were analyzed and the results demonstrated that this method had good potential to be applied in the primary screening of diabetic patients. In addition, this method is universal and can be applied in the simultaneous detection of multiple small molecules. It provides a new strategy for the primary screening of multiple diseases simultaneously, which presents excellent application potential.A sandwich-type electrochemical immunoassay was introduced for the determination of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) biomarker. A direct and simple galvanic replacement reaction was performed between the Ag framework and metallic salts of tetrachloroauric(iii) acid trihydrate and chloroplatinic acid to produce a trimetallic composite of AgAuPt. The trimetallic composite of AgAuPt was applied to the preparation of the capture layer of the immunoassay for stabilizing the primary Ab at the surface of the prepared composite. The immunoassay detection layer was also prepared using a labeled antibody containing a bimetallic composite of AgPt as a label. The various procedures in the immunoassay fabrication were monitored step by step using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Also, the electrochemical determination of PSA was performed using differential pulse voltammetry in the presence of the ferrocene redox probe and H2O2. Furthermore, the effective parameters in the fabrication of the immunoassay included the drop volume of the AgAuPt trimetallic composite and the incubation time for the immobilization of biomolecules (i.e., Ab1, BSA, PSA, and labeled Ab2), and the concentration of H2O2 were optimized during the determination of PSA. Then, the determination of PSA was performed under optimized conditions. It could be seen that there was a linear relation between the PSA concentration and DPV responses in the concentration range of 50 pg mL-1 to 500 ng mL-1 and the limit of detection (LOD) for the proposed immunoassay was calculated as 17.0 pg mL-1. In the following investigation, the cross-reactivity of the proposed immunoassay was studied in the presence of BSA, CEA, IgG, and human hepatitis surface antigen, in which the results showed a negligible change in the performance of the immunoassay. The limited depth of the near infrared (NIR) response is one of the major flaws of the present photothermal therapy (PTT). In this article, thermosensitive polyurethane urea (TPUU) was synthesized by polymerization. Subsequent experiments showed that, compared with classical photosensitizers, TPUU has higher photothermal effects and lower cytotoxicity. These valuable properties could make the present PTT research provide more therapeutic options among different tissues and organs. As a practical example, TPUU was applied to regulate the intestinal flora through external NIR irradiation, which implied its promising expanded applications in deeper tissues.
This systematic review aimed to establish the available techniques for fiber post removal, pointing out where each method stands out evaluating its advantages, and where they fall short indicating the possible harmful effects.

This systematic review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42020193799). A broad search of the electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Virtual Health Library was carried out before April 27, 2020, for
studies about techniques for removing fiber posts luted with resin cements of endodontically treated teeth. The methodological quality of included studies was evaluated based on the critical assessment tool for
studies.

Thirteen articles were selected and included after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. All included studies received an assessment of methodological quality between high and moderate. Most studies used ultrasonic inserts as a strategy to remove fiber posts, manufactured removal kits and drills were also widely used, only one study evaluate faced with the need to remove fiber posts in order to regain access to the root canal due to the need for endodontic retreatment which directly implies the search for the most appropriate removal technique.
