House photo-therapy regarding neonatal jaundice in the UK: a single-centre retrospective support assessment as well as parent survey.
In pregnant rats, LNI caused abnormal lipid profiles and livers with steatosis features. LNI exposure also causes placental morpho-physiology disruption, a high presence of glycogen and inflammatory cells, and irregular lipid profiles. In addition, LNI exposure caused an increase in large amounts of carbohydrate and lipid delivery to the fetus via an increase in placental nutrient sensor protein expressions (GLUT1, IRβ/mTOR and Akt). In both genders of offspring, LNI exposure led to an increase in body weights, liver megakaryocytes, lipid accumulation, and oxidative stress (OS) levels. Collectively, these data suggest that OT exposure from contaminated seafood in female rats leads to reduced fertility, uterine implantation failure, pregnancy and placental metabolic outcome irregularities, offspring adiposity, liver steatosis, and an increase in OS. Furthermore, some of the effects of OT may be the result of obesogenic and multigenerational effects of OT in adult female rats. Coal gasification wastewater (CGW) contains several types of aromatic pollutants, which impart high biotoxicity and reduce the quality of anaerobic treatment. Two types of hydrolysis acidification processes, namely microaerobic hybrid reactor (HA-1) and upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (HA-2), were developed for pre-treatment before the anaerobic treatment. The changes in the dissolved organic matter and biotoxicity were investigated to comprehensively understand the degradation process. The results showed that HA-2 coupled with an anaerobic reactor achieved a 12.3% and 13.4% higher removal efficiency for chemical oxygen demand and total phenols, respectively, compared with the coupled process with HA-1. Furthermore, HA-2 could transform macromolecules into small molecules more efficiently and produce fewer intermediates. The coupled process with HA-2 preferentially removed complex aromatic substances with absorption wavelengths of 285 and 254 nm, according to the sequential orders interpreted from two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy. In addition, the results of fluorescence excitation-emission-matrix with regional integration analysis revealed that the contents of typical cyclic compounds in CGW, such as phenolic, heterocyclic, and polycyclic aromatic compounds were remarkably reduced by HA-2. In addition, HA-2 reduced the toxic unit value of CGW by 67.5% and increased the resazurin dehydrogenase activity of the sludge by 37.5% during CGW treatment, thus improving the biotoxicity removal and biodegradability. However, the coupled process with HA-2 did not significantly affect the "indirect estrogenic activity" of CGW. PMA activator A Pearson correlation analysis indicated that spectral indicators, such as UV254 and ΦT,n, presented a high positive correlation with the reduction of acute toxicity and organics. Direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) is a new electron-transfer strategy for enhanced propionate degradation. Ethanol can enrich the DIET species of Geobacter and conductive ferroferric oxide (Fe3O4) can promote DIET. Therefore, coupled effects of ethanol and Fe3O4 on propionate degradation were investigated. The maximum CH4 production rate was increased by 81.4% by adding Fe3O4 when simultaneously fed with ethanol and propionate, while the improvement could not be observed without ethanol. The sludge conductivity and the electron transfer system activity by adding Fe3O4 were increased by 2.66 and 2.73 times, respectively. Besides, the relative abundance of functional microbes such as Geobacter, Syntrophobacter, Smithella, and Methanosaeta, and their functional genes were increased by the supplement of Fe3O4. The improvement of propionate degradation by adding Fe3O4 was largely attributed to the co-existence of ethanol degradation. The DIET between Geobacter and Methanosaeta might provide more energies or rapidly consume the oxidation products to promote the propionate degradation. Biochar has been received increasing concerns regarding its environmental effect, which is promising in wastewater treatment. In this study, the performance of β-cyclodextrin functionalized biochar (β-BC) on the removal of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in wastewater treatment under the co-stresses of heavy metals and dye is evaluated. Results show that when 20 mg/L heavy metals (HMs) and 150 mg/L methyl orange (MO) are present in daily fed influent, only 0.05 mg/L HMs residual and 96.79%-98.84% MO removal efficiency achieved in β-BC additive group, compare to 0.16 mg/L and 87.92%-94.11% of that in control, respectively, indicating that β-BC can benefits the performance of contaminants removal. To evaluate the role of β-BC plays on ARGs in multi-contaminants stressed system, tet W, tet M, sul-1, sul-2, blaTEM, oxa-1, qnr-S, erm-B and intI-1 are identified. The relative abundance of all identified ARGs are decreased when β-BC presence compared to the corresponding groups without β-BC additive. The diversity and composition of microbial community are explored and the reduction of potential antibiotic-resistant bacteria is speculated as a driver of ARGs removal. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that β-BC possesses the ability to promote the removal of ARGs during continuous wastewater treatment under HMs-MO co-contaminant. Biological aerated filter (BAF) is a widely applied biofilm process for wastewater treatment. However, characteristics of nitrous oxide (N2O) production in BAF are rarely reported. In this study, two tandem BAFs treating domestic wastewater were built up, and different gas-water ratios were controlled to explore N2O production pathway. Results showed that N2O production increased with increasing gas-water ratio in both BAFs; higher gas-water ratio promoted more N2O releasing from hydroxylamine oxidation process. To improve nitrogen removal performance and reduce N2O emission, the optimal gas-water ratios for BAF1 and BAF2 were 51 and 1.51, respectively. Most of N2O was produced from ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) denitrification and hydroxylamine oxidation in BAF1, and heterotrophic denitrification contributed to relieve N2O emission. In BAF2, N2O was emitted from AOB denitrification and hydroxylamine oxidation by 87.8% and 12.2%, respectively. Heterotrophic denitrification is a N2O sink in BAF, causing BAF1 produced less N2O than BAF2 with the same gas-water ratio.
