We demonstrated that transplanted OM+TH-treated DPSCs sheets were localized to the fracture site and facilitated bone formation. These results indicated that transplanted OM+TH-treated DPSCs were localized at fracture sites and directly promoted fracture healing.Moulds inhabiting mineral-based materials may cause their biodeterioration, contributing to inestimable losses, especially in the case of cultural heritage objects and architectures. Fungi in mouldy buildings may also pose a threat to human health and constitute the main etiological factor in building related illnesses. In this context, research into novel compounds with antifungal activity is of high importance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of polyoxometalate-ionic liquids (POM-ILs) and their use in the eradication of moulds from historical brick. In the disc diffusion assay, all the tested POM-ILs inhibited growth of a mixed culture of moulds including Engyodontium album, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Alternaria alternata and Aspergillus fumigatus. These were isolated from the surfaces of historical brick barracks at the Auschwitz II-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim, Poland. POM-IL coatings on historical brick samples, under model conditions, showed that two compounds demonstrated very high antifungal activity, completely limiting mould growth and development. The antifungal activity of the POM-ILs appeared to stem from their toxic effects on conidia, as evidenced by environmental scanning transmission electron microscopy observations. The results herein indicated that POM-ILs are promising disinfectant materials for use not only on historical objects, but probably also on other mineral-based materials.Problematic Internet use (PIU) is currently becoming a more serious public health concern, representing a deleterious effect on adolescent adaptive emotional and behavioral patterns. Given the prevalence of PIU and its deleterious impact on adolescents' optimal functioning, it is valuable to investigate the risk and protective factors of PIU. Guided by a socio-ecological framework, the current study examines the associations of paternal attachment and maternal attachment with PIU among Chinese adolescents. Furthermore, this study investigates whether adolescents' gender and grit moderate this association. A total of 2677 Chinese adolescents (56.5% girls; Mage = 15.56; SD = 1.57) was involved in this study. Adolescents were uniformly instructed to complete a battery of self-reported questionnaires. The results of linear regression analyses showed that paternal attachment and maternal attachment security were negatively related to PIU. KRIBB11 Moreover, moderation analyses revealed that higher levels of grit buffered against boys' PIU in the context of paternal attachment security and girls' PIU in the context of paternal attachment insecurity. The current study suggests that parental attachment security plays an important role in mitigating the likelihood of Chinese adolescents' PIU. Moreover, the buffering role of grit in PIU varies by the levels of paternal attachment security, depending on the adolescents' gender.Traditional fermented alcoholic beverages are drinks produced locally using indigenous knowledge, and consumed near the vicinity of production. In Ethiopia, preparation and consumption of cereal- and fruit-based traditional fermented alcoholic beverages is very common. Tella, Borde, Shamita, Korefe, Cheka, Tej, Ogol, Booka, and Keribo are among the popular alcoholic beverages in the country. These beverages have equal market share with commercially produced alcoholic beverages. Fermentation of Ethiopian alcoholic beverages is spontaneous, natural and uncontrolled. Consequently, achieving consistent quality in the final product is the major challenge. Yeasts and lactic acid bacteria are the predominate microorganisms encountered during the fermentation of these traditional alcoholic beverages. In this paper, we undertake a review in order to elucidate the physicochemical properties, indigenous processing methods, nutritional values, functional properties, fermenting microorganisms and fermentation microbial dynamics of Ethiopian traditional alcoholic beverages. Further research will be needed in order to move these traditional beverages into large-scale production.Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) is a systemic disease affecting the skin, eyes, and cardiovascular system of patients. Cardiovascular disease is associated with osteoarthritis (OA), which is the most common cause of joint pain. There is a lack of systematic investigations on joint manifestations in PXE in the literature. In this explorative study, we aimed to investigate whether patients with PXE are more at risk for developing osseous signs of OA. Patients with PXE and hospital controls with whole-body low-dose CT examinations available were included. OA was assessed using the OsteoArthritis Computed Tomography (OACT)-score, which is a 4-point Likert scale, in the acromioclavicular (AC), glenohumeral (GH), facet, hip, knee, and ankle joints. Additionally, intervertebral disc degeneration was scored. Data were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression adjusted for age, body mass index (BMI), and smoking status. In total, 106 PXE patients (age 56 (48-64), 42% males, BMI 25.3 (22.7-28.2)) and 87 hospital controls (age 55 (43-67), 46% males, BMI 26.0 (22.5-29.2)) were included. PXE patients were more likely to have a higher OA score for the AC joints (OR 2.00 (1.12-3.61)), tibiofemoral joint (OR 2.63 (1.40-5.07)), and patellofemoral joint (2.22 (1.18-4.24)). For the other joints, the prevalence and severity of OA did not differ significantly. This study suggests that patients with PXE are more likely to have structural OA of the knee and AC joints, which needs clinical confirmation in larger groups and further investigation into the mechanism.
The complexity of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) cannot be characterized by acquired somatic mutations alone. Individual genetic background is thought to contribute to the development of MPNs. The aim of our study was to assess the association between the
rs1548483 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and the susceptibility to polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET), primary myelofibrosis (PMF) or chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
We evaluated the
rs1548483 SNP through real-time PCR in 1601 MPN patients out of which 431 with PV, 688 with TE, 233 with PMF, 249 with CML and 197 controls. We included only patients with a molecularly proven driver mutation, such as
V617F,
or
.
Significant association between
rs154843 variant allele and
V617F-positive PV and PMF (OR = 1.70; 95% CI 1.01-2.91;
-value = 0.046, and OR = 2.04; 95% CI 1.10-3.77;
-value = 0.024, respectively), and type 2
-positive PMF (OR = 2.98; 95% CI 1.12-7.93;
-value = 0.035) was noted.
The
rs1548483 SNP is associated with the susceptibility to molecularly annotated PV and PMF.
