Form of high-quality reflectors regarding up and down III-V nanowire laser treatment upon Si.
The ability to tailor the properties of metal centers in single-atom heterogeneous catalysts depends on the availability of advanced approaches for characterization of their structure. Except for specific host materials with well-defined metal adsorption sites, determining the local atomic environment remains a crucial challenge, often relying heavily on simulations. This article reports an advanced analysis of platinum atoms stabilized on poly(triazine imide), a nanocrystalline form of carbon nitride. The approach discriminates the distribution of surface coordination sites in the host, the evolution of metal coordination at different stages during the synthesis of the material, and the potential locations of metal atoms within the lattice. Consistent with density functional theory predictions, simultaneous high-resolution imaging in high-angle annular dark field and bright field modes experimentally confirms the preferred localization of platinum in-plane in the corners of the triangular cavities. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and dynamic nuclear polarization enhanced 15 N nuclear magnetic resonance (DNP-NMR) spectroscopies coupled with density functional theory (DFT) simulations reveal that the predominant metal species comprise Pt(II) bound to three nitrogen atoms and one chlorine atom inside the coordination sites. The findings, which narrow the gap between experimental and theoretical elucidation, contribute to the improved structural understanding and provide a benchmark for exploring the speciation of single-atom catalysts based on carbon nitrides.
Bone mineral density (BMD) testing is indicated for women aged 65 years, but screening strategies for osteoporosis are controversial. Currently, there is no study focusing on the BMD testing interval in Asian populations. The current study aimed to evaluate the estimated time interval for screening osteoporosis.

We conducted a study of 6,385 subjects aged 50 years and older who underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry screening more than twice at Samsung Medical Center as participants in a routine health checkup. Subjects were divided based on baseline T-score into mild osteopenia (T-score, <-1.0 to >-1.5), moderate osteopenia (T-score, ≤-1.5 to >-2.0), and severe osteopenia (T-score, ≤-2.0 to >-2.5). Information about personal medical and social history was collected by a structured questionnaire.

The adjusted estimated BMD testing interval for 10% of the subjects to develop osteoporosis was 13.2 years in mild osteopenia, 5.0 years in moderate osteopenia, and 1.5 years in severe osteopenia.

Our study provides extended information about BMD screening intervals in Asian female population. Baseline T-score was important for predicting BMD screening interval, and repeat BMD testing within 5 years might not be necessary in mild osteopenia subjects.

The key to generating supercells is determining how to eliminate symmetry-equivalent structures from many substitution patterns. Although the total number of substitutions is on the order of trillions, only symmetry-inequivalent atomic substitution patterns need to be identified, and their number is far smaller than the total. Our developed Python software package, which is called Shry (Suite for High-throughput generation of models with atomic substitutions implemented by Python), allows the selection of only symmetry-inequivalent structures from the vast number of candidates based on the canonical augmentation algorithm. Shry is implemented in Python 3 and uses the CIF format as the standard for both reading and writing the reference and generated sets of substituted structures. Shry can be integrated into another Python program as a module or can be used as a stand-alone program. The implementation was verified through a comparison with other codes with the same functionality, based on the total numbers of symmetry-inequivalent structures, and also on the equivalencies of the output structures themselves. The provided crystal structure data used for the verification are expected to be useful for benchmarking other codes and also developing new algorithms in the future.
Hypercholesterolemia is found in patients with chronic lung inflammation, during which airway epithelial cells play important roles in maintenance of inflammatory responses to pathogens. The present study aims at molecular mechanisms by which cholesterol changes airway epithelial sensitivity in response to smoking.

Human bronchial epithelial cells (HBEs) were stimulated with cigarette smoke extract (CSE) and mice were exposed to CS/lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as models in vitro and in vivo. Severe COPD patients and healthy volunteers were also enrolled and the level of cholesterol in plasma was detected by metabolomics. Filipin III and elisa kits were used to stain free cholesterol. Mitochondrial function was detected by mitotracker green, mitotracker green, and Seahorse. Mitochondrial morphology was detected by high content screening and electron microscopy. The mRNA and protein levels of mitochondrial dynamics-related proteins were detected by RT-qPCR and Western blot, respectively. BODIPY 493/503 was used for understanding molecular mechanisms of cholesterol-altered airway epithelial inflammation and for developing diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to improve patient outcomes.
Our data provide new insights for understanding molecular mechanisms of cholesterol-altered airway epithelial inflammation and for developing diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to improve patient outcomes.
The mechanism by which low androgen status inhibit erectile function has not yet been clearly elucidated. Neurogranin (Ng) is a Ca
-sensitive calmodulin binding protein that is expressed in endothelial cells and regulates eNOS function.

To investigate whether low androgen status inhibit erectile function by regulating the Ng/CaN/AKT/eNOS pathway in the penile cavernous tissue of rats.

Thirty-six 8-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups as follows (n=6) 4-week control group (4w-control), 4-week castration group (4w-cast), 4-week castration+testosterone replacement group (4w-cast+T), 8-week control group (8w-control), 8-week castration group (8w-cast), and 8-week castration+testosterone replacement group (8w-cast+T). find more Four weeks and eight weeks after surgery, the ratio of the maximum intracavernous pressure/mean arterial pressure (ICPmax/MAP) was examined. The level of NO and the expression of Ng, calcineurin (CaN), AKT, p-AKT(S473), eNOS, and p-eNOS(Ser1177) in the penilay.
Inhibiting the expression of Ng and subsequently upregulating the expression of CaN in the rat penile cavernous tissue was one of the upstream mechanisms of low androgen status inhibiting erectile function by inhibiting the AKT/eNOS signaling pathway.Rechargeable lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are deemed as a viable solution to improve the power and/or energy density of the contemporary lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, poor Li-ion diffusivity within high-energy cathodes causes sluggish kinetics of the corresponding redox reactions particularly at high C-rates, thereby largely impeding the performance of rechargeable LMBs. In this work, a dual-functional single Li-ion conducting polysalt is proposed as both catholyte and binding agent (coined "Binderlyte") for rechargeable LMBs. The designed Binderlyte is thermally and electrochemically stable, allowing its use for high-energy cathodes like Li(Ni1/3 Mn1/3 Co1/3 )O2 (NMC111). The implementation of designer Binderlyte endows the Li° || NMC111 cell with superior cycling stability and capacity retention even at an extremely high C-rate of 10C. In particular, the soft and flexible nature of the Binderlyte allows the thick NMC cathode to operate at extremely low porosity (20 vol%) with almost no capacity decay. This work may provide a paradigm shift on the design of innovative polymeric materials, which are essential for developing high-performing rechargeable LMBs.In this review article, selected, latest theoretical, and experimental developments in the field of nucleation and crystal growth of inorganic materials from aqueous solution are highlighted, with a focus on literature after 2015 and on non-classical pathways. A key point is to emphasize the so far underappreciated role of water and solvent entropy in crystallization at all stages from solution speciation through to the final crystal. While drawing on examples from current inorganic materials where non-classical behavior has been proposed, the potential of these approaches to be adapted to a wide-range of systems is also discussed, while considering the broader implications of the current re-assessment of pathways for crystallization. Various techniques that are suitable for the exploration of crystallization pathways in aqueous solution, from nucleation to crystal growth are summarized, and a flow chart for the assignment of specific theories based on experimental observations is proposed.Microneedle arrays (MNs) have a demonstrated value in transdermal drug delivery systems. Attempts to this technology focus on the generation of functional MNs to achieve intelligent drug delivery. Here, multifunctional inverse opal microneedle (IOMN) arrays with the abilities are reported to load various drugs and monitor drug release. The IOMNs are generated by using poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) to replicate hierarchical structure templates that are composed of self-assembled silica colloidal nanoparticles in the inverted cone structure wells. Because of their interconnected porous structures, different actives, or drugs can be loaded into the IOMNs without organic solvents and chemical polymerization. It is demonstrated that when these drugs loaded IOMNs pierce the skin at position of interest and for slow release, the average refractive index of the IOMNs decreases with the release process, resulting in a corresponding blueshift of their characteristic spectrum. Thus, by measuring the wavelength shift value of the IOMNs, the amount of released drugs can be monitored, providing essential guidance for efficient clinical treatment. These features indicate that the IOMNs are valuable smart drug delivery systems in personalized therapy.Microvascular decompression is the gold standard for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (TN). However, percutaneous techniques still play a role in treating patients with TN and offer several important advantages and efficiency in obtaining immediate pain relief, which is also durable in a less invasive and safe manner. Patients' preference for a less invasive method can influence the procedure they will undergo. Neurovascular conflict is not always a prerequisite for patients with TN. In addition, recurrence and failure of the previous procedure can influence the decision to follow the treatment. Therefore, indications for percutaneous procedures for TN persist when patients experience idiopathic and episodic sharp shooting pain. In this review, we provide an overview of percutaneous procedures for TN and its outcome and complication.
