-WHAT WE SEE-
What does it mean to look different? Our mind is making inferences on things surrounding items such as lines to determine size,color(The Criss-Cross Affect, The Koffka Ring, White's Illusion, Simultaneous Contrast Effect), and position(Stepping Effect, Table Effect, Shaded Mask Effect).
Our system of vision is based on many different laws, and when messing with your senses will make those laws calculate the wrong answer.
People can pay attention to a limited number of things. When you are focused by something such as counting, you do not have the attention to see other things that may have been obvious previously.
-WHAT WE HEAR-
McGurk Effect-Most people think they hear "Da", but later in the experiment, they think it looks like "Ga", and sounds like "La".
This is because the combination of sight and hearing creates something completely different.
People use larger mental maps to find locations of smaller cities. Our minds make common wheels for what we hear to make assumptions and categorize what we hear. We may process words that we didn't hear based on other words we have heard.
- AUTOMATICITY -
Power-Allows us to speak quicker, and reading becomes easier and takes less effort in whole.
Peril-When something becomes automatic, we tend to lose control of it and we can mistake something else for it without noticing.
The way people think is based off of what their brains sorts out from information that they hear. They can skip over information that seems irrelevant, which can actually sometimes be important.
We base what we see on personal experiences we've encountered. Even when the answer is calculable, we still tend to lean towards our own thoughts.
