These products are of great practical importance in food, cosmetics, perfumery and medicine industries. Kinetic studies were also performed for the studied process. In this work, based on the thermodynamic prediction, the comprehensive studies of the influence of Cu for Fe substitution on the crystal structure and magnetic properties of the rapidly quenched Fe85B15 alloy in the ribbon form are performed. Using thermodynamic calculations, the parabolic shape dependence of the ΔGamoprh with a minimum value at 0.6% of Cu was predicted. The ΔGamoprh from the Cu content dependence shape is also asymmetric, and, for Cu = 0% and Cu = 1.5%, the same ΔGamoprh value is observed. The heat treatment optimization process of all alloys showed that the least lossy (with a minimum value of core power losses) is the nanocomposite state of nanocrystals immersed in an amorphous matrix obtained by annealing in the temperature range of 300-330 °C for 20 min. The minimum value of core power losses P10/50 (core power losses at 1T@50Hz) of optimally annealed Fe85-xCuxB15 x = 0,0.6,1.2% alloys come from completely different crystallization states of nanocomposite materials, but it strongly correlates with Cu content and, thus, a number of nucleation sites. The TEM observations showed that, for the Cu-free alloy, the least lossy crystal structure is related to 2-3 nm short-ordered clusters; for the Cu = 0.6% alloy, only the limited value of several α-Fe nanograins are found, while for the Cu-rich alloy with Cu = 1.2%, the average diameter of nanograins is about 26 nm, and they are randomly distributed in the amorphous matrix. The only high number of nucleation sites in the Cu = 1.2% alloy allows for a sufficient level of grains' coarsening of the α-Fe phase that strongly enhances the ferromagnetic exchange between the α-Fe nanocrystals, which is clearly seen with the increasing value of saturation induction up to 1.7T. The air-annealing process tested on studied alloys for optimal annealing conditions proves the possibility of its use for this type of material.High lead-tin bronze is widely used in the selection of wear-resistant parts such as bearings, bearing bushes, aerospace pump rotors, turbines, and guide plates because of its excellent wear resistance, thermal conductivity, fatigue resistance, and strong load-bearing capacity. At present, high lead-tin bronze is used as a material for bimetal cylinders, which cannot meet the requirements of high-strength, anti-wear in actual working conditions under high temperature, high speed, and heavy load conditions, and is prone to de-cylinder, cylinder holding, copper sticking, etc. The reason for the failure of cylinder body parts is that the strength of copper alloy materials is insufficient, the proportion of lead in the structure is serious, and the wear resistance of the material is reduced. Therefore, it has important theoretical significance and application value to carry out research on the comprehensive properties of high-performance lead-tin bronze materials and reveal the strengthening and toughening mechanrties.Harmful nitrogen oxides (NOX) are produced by vehicles, factories, mines, and power plants. In fact, over one million tons of NOX are emitted into the atmosphere every year, making it the most prevalent air pollutant. Approximately 45% of the emitted NOX in Korea is associated with the transportation sector. In this paper, the application of a new TiO2 photocatalyst on the asphalt roads to remove combustion-produced NOX was studied. In an effort to overcome the known constructability, adhesion, cost, and dispersion problems associated with TiO2 photocatalysts, the liquid polyurethane (PUD) was added with TiO2 to form a mixture later known as liquid PUD-TiO2. Laboratory and field tests were conducted to determine the optimum amount of photocatalyst to be used and the performance of asphalt pavement coated with PUD-TiO2 in terms of indirect tensile strength, water susceptibility, and rutting resistance. Additionally, the performance of PUD-TiO2 under different humidity, wind speed, and temperature conditions was also evaluated. The results showed that the application of PUD-TiO2 photocatalyst on the asphalt pavements road reduces the NOX available on the surface of the road. The PUD-TiO2 also was found to have no effects on the performance of asphalt pavement. Meanwhile, under different weather conditions, the reaction between the photocatalyst and NOX is mainly affected by the humidity.A new approach to numerical simulation using the finite element method (FEM) for the rotational motion of discs for railway vehicle disc brake systems was proposed. For this purpose, spatial models of transient heating due to the friction of such systems with solid and ventilated discs were developed. The performed calculations and the results obtained allowed justification of the possibility of simplifying the shape of the ventilated brake disc through elimination of ventilation channels. This contributes to a significant reduction in computational time, without compromising the accuracy of the results. ETC-159 The spatial and temporal temperature distributions in the ventilated and the solid disc of the same mass were analyzed. The share of energy dissipated due to convection and thermal radiation to the environment in relation to the total work done during a single braking was investigated. The maximum temperature values found as a result of computer simulations were consistent with the corresponding experimental results.Aluminum dross is a well-known industrial waste generated in the aluminium industry, and its recycling and reuse is still a worldwide issue. Herein, aluminum dross waste (ADW) was recycled to progressively replace the aggregate fraction of clay at 70, 75, 80, 85, and 90 wt% for the fabrication of Al2O3-SiO2-rich porous castable refractories. Their physical properties and mechanical behavior were assessed by the measurement of linear shrinkage rate, bulk density, apparent porosity, cold crushing strength, and thermal conductivity. The microstructure and phase evolutions were analyzed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The incorporation of 85 wt% of ADW allowed the development of a waste-containing conventional refractory castable with improved properties as compared to those of the other samples. The sustainable refractory castable exhibited decent thermal conductivity and physical and mechanical characteristics, and is suitable for application as reheating furnace lining. It is a "green" practice to partially replace the traditional raw materials with industrial waste in the manufacture of conventional refractory castables and provides environmental and economic benefits. With its extraordinary physical properties, graphene is regarded as one of the most attractive reinforcements to enhance the mechanical characteristics of composite materials. However, the existing models in the literature might meet severe challenges in the interlaminar-stress prediction of thick, functionally graded, graphene-reinforced-composite (FG-GRC)-laminated beams that have been integrated with piezoelectric macro-fiber-composite (MFC) actuators under electro-mechanical loadings. If the transverse shear deformations cannot be accurately described, then the mechanical performance of the FG-GRC-laminated beams with MFC actuators will be significantly impacted by the electro-mechanical coupling effect and the sudden change of the material characteristics at the interfaces. Therefore, a new electro-mechanical coupled-beam model with only four independent displacement variables is proposed in this paper. Employing the Hu-Washizu (HW) variational principle, the precision of the transverse shear stresses in regard to the electro-mechanical coupling effect can be improved. Moreover, the second-order derivatives of the in-plane displacement parameters have been removed from the transverse-shear-stress components, which can greatly simplify the finite-element implementation. Thus, based on the proposed electro-mechanical coupled model, a simple C0-type finite-element formulation is developed for the interlaminar shear-stress analysis of thick FG-GRC-laminated beams with MFC actuators. The 3D elasticity solutions and the results obtained from other models are used to assess the performance of the proposed finite-element formulation. Additionally, comprehensive parametric studies are performed on the influences of the graphene volume fraction, distribution pattern, electro-mechanical loading, boundary conditions, lamination scheme and geometrical parameters of the beams on the deformations and stresses of the FG-GRC-laminated beams with MFC actuators.Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are essential for increasing the inlet temperature of gas turbines to improve their thermal efficiency. Continuous exposure to flames is known to affect the thermal properties of TBCs, degrading the performance of gas turbines as a consequence. In this study, we quantified the changes in the thermal conductivity of yttria-stabilized zirconia coatings with respect to various heat treatment temperatures and times. The coating exhibited an increase in thermal conductivity after heat treatment, with higher heat treatment temperatures resulting in greater thermal conductivity. The coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy before and after heat treatment. Results showed that there was little change in thermal conductivity due to phase changes and grain size. We conclude that pore structures, i.e., circular and lamellar pores, affected the change in thermal conductivity. Specifically, we confirmed that the change in thermal conductivity depends on the size of the lamellar pores.Experiments and finite element simulations for multiple impact were performed on GLARE 5-2/1 and aluminum 2024-T3. Experiments were conducted on aluminum 2024-T3 and GLARE 5-2/1 at diverse impact energies to produce BVID (barely visible impact damage) and CVID (clearly visible impact damage). The finite element model was developed for multiple impact analysis using ABAQUS software and was confirmed by comparing the finite element analysis outcomes with experimental results. The two- and three-dimensional failure criteria model was applied to predict multiple impact behavior such as load-time history, maximum deflection-impact energy history, and damage progression. In addition, a user subroutine VUMAT was created to represent a three-dimensional progressive failure and was linked with ABAQUS. FEM results showed good agreement with experimental data.In this paper, a novel soft computing technique is designed to analyze the mathematical model of the steady thin film flow of Johnson-Segalman fluid on the surface of an infinitely long vertical cylinder used in the drainage system by using artificial neural networks (ANNs). The approximate series solutions are constructed by Legendre polynomials and a Legendre polynomial-based artificial neural networks architecture (LNN) to approximate solutions for drainage problems. The training of designed neurons in an LNN structure is carried out by a hybridizing generalized normal distribution optimization (GNDO) algorithm and sequential quadratic programming (SQP). To investigate the capabilities of the proposed LNN-GNDO-SQP algorithm, the effect of variations in various non-Newtonian parameters like Stokes number (St), Weissenberg number (We), slip parameters (a), and the ratio of viscosities (ϕ) on velocity profiles of the of steady thin film flow of non-Newtonian Johnson-Segalman fluid are investigated. The results establish that the velocity profile is directly affected by increasing Stokes and Weissenberg numbers while the ratio of viscosities and slip parameter inversely affects the fluid's velocity profile.
