TGs and PSs ameliorated bone histopathological damages, promoted the formation of new bone, collagenous fiber, and chondrocytes, and accelerated the calcium deposits. Moreover, they remarkable altered the biomarkers of bone turnover and effectively ameliorated bone microarchitecture. This review documents the wide and varied repertoire of traditional practices and remedies based on the use of domestic animals in Spanish ethnoveterinary medicine (EVM) from the early 20th century to the present. Empirical practices, both ritual and magical, are recorded, and these EVM data are compared with those of other countries in the Mediterranean region and Latin America. The data collected here could form a scientific foundation for future inventories of local veterinary knowledge (LVK) and research addressing the discovery of new drugs for livestock and the validation of the effects.
A qualitative systematic review of the most important databases in the fields of ethnobiology, ethnoveterinary medicine, folklore and ethnography was performed. Information and use-reports were obtained from more than 60 documentary sources.

Depression has been associated with decreased regional grey matter volume, which might partly be explained by an unhealthier lifestyle in depressed individuals which has been ignored by most earlier studies. Also, the longitudinal nature of depression, lifestyle and brain structure associations is largely unknown. This study investigates the relationship of depression and lifestyle with brain structure cross-sectionally and longitudinally over up to 9 years.
We used longitudinal structural MRI data of persons with depression and/or anxiety disorders and controls (N

=609). Cortical thickness of medial orbitofrontal cortex (mOFC), rostral anterior cingulate cortex (rACC) and hippocampal volume were derived using FreeSurfer. Using Generalized Estimating Equations, we investigated associations of depression and lifestyle (Body mass index (BMI), smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity and sleep duration) with brain structure and change in brain structure over 2 (n=179) and 9 years (n=82).

However, the vast majority of research relies on group aggregate or average statistical maps of activity, which do not fully capture the rich intersubject variability in brain function. In order to fully understand the neurobiology of cognitive processes, it is necessary to explore the range of variability in activation patterns across individuals. To better characterize individual variability, hierarchical clustering was performed separately on six fMRI tasks in 822 participants from the Human Connectome Project. Across all tasks, clusters ranged from a predominantly 'deactivating' pattern towards a more 'activating' pattern of brain activity, with significant differences in out-of-scanner cognitive test scores between clusters. Cluster stability was assessed via a resampling approach; a cluster probability matrix was generated, as the probability of any pair of participants clustering together when both were present in a random subsample. Rather than forming distinct clusters, participants fell along a spectrum or into pseudo-clusters without clear boundaries. A principal components analysis of the cluster probability matrix revealed three components explaining over 90% of the variance in clustering. Plotting participants in this lower-dimensional 'similarity space' revealed manifolds of variations along an S 'snake' shaped spectrum or a folded circle or 'tortilla' shape. The 'snake' shape was present in tasks where individual variability related to activity along covarying networks, while the 'tortilla' shape represented multiple networks which varied independently.Motor, sensory and cognitive functions rely on dynamic reshaping of functional brain networks. Tracking these rapid changes is crucial to understand information processing in the brain, but challenging due to the great variety of dimensionality reduction methods used at the network-level and the limited evaluation studies. Using Magnetoencephalography (MEG) combined with Source Separation (SS) methods, we present an integrated framework to track fast dynamics of electrophysiological brain networks. We evaluate nine SS methods applied to three independent MEG databases (N=95) during motor and memory tasks. We report differences between these methods at the group and subject level. We seek to help researchers in choosing objectively the appropriate SS method when tracking fast reconfiguration of functional brain networks, due to its enormous benefits in cognitive and clinical neuroscience.Genetic generalized epilepsy is a network disorder typically involving distributed areas identified by classical neuroanatomy. However, the finer topological relationships in terms of continuous spatial arrangement between these systems are still ambiguous. Estrogen modulator Connectome gradients provide the topological representations of human macroscale hierarchy in an abstract low-dimensional space by embedding the functional connectome into a set of axes. Leveraging connectome gradients, we systematically scrutinized abnormalities of functional connectome gradient in patients with genetic generalized epilepsy with tonic-clonic seizure (GGE-GTCS, n = 78) compared to healthy controls (HC, n = 85), and further examined the reproducibility across multiple processing configurations and in an independent validation sample (patients with GGE-GTCS, n = 28; HC, n = 31). Our findings demonstrated an extended principal gradient at different spatial scales, network-level and vertex-level, in patients with GGE-GTCS. We found consistent results across processing parameters and in validation sample.
