Here, we examined the endophytic bacterial community of six microenvironments (flowers, fruits, and seeds, together with leaves, roots, and rhizospheric sediment) of the seagrass Halophila ovalis collected from the Swan Estuary, in southwestern Australia. An amplicon sequencing approach (16S rRNA) was used to characterize the diversity and composition of H. ovalis bacterial microbiomes and identify core microbiome bacteria that were conserved across microenvironments. Distinct communities of bacteria were observed within specific seagrass microenvironments, including the reproductive tissues (flowers, fruits, and seeds). Therefore, proglacial systems show several environmental gradients along the soil succession where microorganisms are active protagonists of the soil and carbon pool formation through nitrogen fixation and rock weathering. We studied the microbial succession of three Arctic proglacial systems located in Svalbard (Midtre Lovénbreen), Sweden (Storglaciären), and Greenland (foreland close to Kangerlussuaq). We analyzed 65 whole shotgun metagenomic soil samples for a total of more than 400 Gb of sequencing data. Microbial succession showed common trends typical of proglacial systems with increasing diversity observed along the forefield chronosequence. Microbial trends were explained by the distance from the ice edge in the Midtre Lovénbreen and Storglaciären forefields and by total nitrogen (TN) and total organic carbon (TOC) in the Greenland proglacial system. Furthermore, we focused specifically on genes associated with nitrogen fixation and biotic rock weathering processes, such as nitrogenase genes, obcA genes, and genes involved in cyanide and siderophore synthesis and transport. Whereas we confirmed the presence of these genes in known nitrogen-fixing and/or rock weathering organisms (e.g., Nostoc, Burkholderia), in this study, we also detected organisms that, even if often found in soil and proglacial systems, have never been related to nitrogen-fixing or rock weathering processes before (e.g., Fimbriiglobus, Streptomyces). The different genera showed different gene trends within and among the studied systems, indicating a community constituted by a plurality of organisms involved in nitrogen fixation and biotic rock weathering, and where the latter were driven by different organisms at different soil succession stages.Testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT) is the most common malignant tumor in young men and is associated with poor prognosis. We assessed the RNA expression profiles of 13 TGCT tissues and 4 adjacent normal tissues by transcriptome sequencing to identify novel prognostic biomarkers. We detected several differentially expressed mRNAs in TGCT that were functionally annotated by GO and KEGG enrichment analyses to tumorigenesis-related processes such as immunity and chemotherapeutic resistance. An mRNA-lncRNA-miRNA regulatory network was constructed using RNA-Seq data and public databases, and integrated with TCGA database to develop a prediction model for metastasis and recurrence. Finally, GRK4, PCYT2 and RGSL1 were identified as predictive markers of survival and therapeutic response. In conclusion, we found several potential predictors for TGCT prognosis and immunotherapeutic response by ceRNA network analysis.Fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) has been associated with insulin resistance. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) impairs fetal insulin sensitivity. Female newborns are more insulin resistant than male newborns. We sought to evaluate the association between GDM and cord blood FABP4, and explore potential sex dimorphic associations and the roles of sex hormones. This was a nested case-control study in the Shanghai Birth Cohort, including 153 pairs of newborns in GDM vs. euglycemic pregnancies matched by infant sex and gestational age at delivery. Cord plasma FABP4, leptin, total and high-molecular-weight adiponectin, testosterone and estradiol concentrations were measured. Adjusting for maternal and neonatal characteristics, cord plasma FABP4 (Mean ± SD 27.0 ± 19.6 vs. 18.8 ± 9.6 ng/mL, P=0.045) and estradiol (52.0 ± 28.6 vs. 44.2 ± 26.6, ng/mL, P=0.005) concentrations were higher comparing GDM vs. euglycemic pregnancies in males, but similar in females (all P>0.5). Mediation analyses showed that the positive association between GDM and cord plasma FABP4 in males could be partly mediated by estradiol (P=0.03), but not by testosterone (P=0.72). Cord plasma FABP4 was positively correlated with total adiponectin in females (r=0.17, P=0.053), but the correlation was in the opposite direction in males (r=-0.11, P=0.16) (test for difference in r, P=0.02). Cord plasma FABP4 was not correlated with leptin in both sexes. The study is the first to demonstrate sex-dimorphic associations between GDM and cord plasma FABP4 or estradiol, and between FABP4 and adiponectin in newborns. GDM may affect fetal circulating FABP4 and estradiol levels in males only.
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) has a potential connection with thyroid disease, but its relationship with thyroid nodules (TNs) is still controversial. This study aims to clarify the relationship between MetS and TNs, and this relationship in the subgroup of gender.

The recent nationwide cross-sectional study called Thyroid Disorders, Iodine Status, and Diabetes Epidemiological survey provided the newest data on the relationship between MetS and TNs from China and included 56,729 subjects. We also researched related literature in PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and MEDLINE until Oct 30, 2020, in order to perform a meta-analysis. The relevant articles were examined, and the eligible studies were included to assess the association between MetS and TNs.

The meta-analysis included 15 studies (involving 468,845 subjects). Of these, 14 studies were from the databases, and one study was this cross-sectional data. The meta-analysis showed that TNs were associated with a higher prevalence of MetS (OR=1.87, 95% CI 1omponents had a higher risk of suffering from TNs than males.
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is one of the most lethal urologic cancer. Associations of both visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) with ccRCC have been reported, and underlying mechanisms of VAT perhaps distinguished from SAT, considering their different structures and functions. We performed this study to disclose different miRNA-mRNA networks of obesity-related ccRCC in VAT and SAT using datasets from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA); and find out different RNAs correlated with the prognosis of ccRCC in VAT and SAT.

We screened out different expressed (DE) mRNAs and miRNAs of obesity, in both VAT and SAT from GEO datasets, and constructed miRNA-mRNA networks of obesity-related ccRCC. To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of RNAs in networks of obesity-related ccRCC in both VAT and SAT, Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analyses were conducted using TCGA datasets. Spearman correlation analyses were then performed to findiRNA-mRNA regulatory networks of obesity-related ccRCC for both VAT and SAT; and several DE RNAs of obesity-related ccRCC were found to remain consistent performance in terms of ccRCC prognosis. Our findings could provide valuable evidence on the targeted therapy of obesity-related ccRCC.

This study aimed to investigate the role of nerve conduction studies (NCS) andsympathetic skin response (SSR) in evaluating diabetic cardiac autonomic neuropathy (DCAN).

DCAN was diagnosed using the Ewing test combined with heart rate variability analysis. NCS and SSR were assessed by electrophysiological methods. The association between NCS/SSR and DCAN was assessed
multivariate regression and receiver-operating characteristic analyses.

The amplitude and conduction velocity of the motor/sensory nerve were found to be significantly lower in the DCAN+ group (all
< 0.05). A lower amplitude of peroneal nerve motor fiber was found to be associated with increased odds for DCAN (OR 2.77,
< 0.05). The SSR amplitude was lower while the SSR latency was longer in the DCAN+ group than in the DCAN- group. The receiver-operating characteristic analysis revealed that the optimal cutoff points of upper/lower limb amplitude of SSR to indicate DCAN were 1.40 mV (sensitivity, 61.9%; specificity, 66.3%,
0.001) and 0.85 mV (sensitivity, 66.7%; specificity, 68.5%,
0.001), respectively. The optimal cutoff points of upper/lower limb latency to indicate DCAN were 1.40 s (sensitivity, 61.9%; specificity, 62%,
0.05) and 1.81 s (sensitivity, 69.0%; specificity, 52.2%,
0.05), respectively.

Objective This guideline's main objective was to develop a national guideline for Pompe disease based on national and international evidence adapting with national necessities. Methods A group of expert clinicians with particular interests and experience in diagnosing and managing Pompe disease participated in developing this guideline. This group included adult neurologists, pediatric neurologists, pulmonologists, endocrinologists, cardiologists, pathologists, and physiatrists. After developing search terms, four authors performed an extensive literature review, including Embase, PubMed, and Google Scholar, from 1932 to current publications before the main meeting.
