Endotracheal tube cuff pressure must be kept in an optimal range, but it might change during some nursing procedures. If the cuff pressure gets outside the normal range, it can cause mucosal damage, insufficient ventilation, and microaspiration. This study aimed to determine the effect of endotracheal suctioning on cuff pressure in patients during mechanical ventilation.
This is a quasi-experimental study utilizing repeated measures with a within-subject design. Using a simple convenience sampling method, 61 patients were studied during intubation on mechanical ventilation. Baseline cuff pressure was adjusted to 25 cm H
O. Then, at 15, 30, and 60 minutes' intervals, cuff pressures were measured once without suctioning and again after suctioning.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) are categorized as granulocytic (G-MDSCs) and monocytic (M-MDSCs) and their expansion play a role in cancer progression. Recruitment to the cancer site depends upon the presence of a chemoattractant. We aimed to investigate the presence of MDSC subtypes and of interleukin-8 (CXCL-8) in the peripheral blood in lung cancer subtypes including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients.
Peripheral blood samples of 26 NSCLC patients, 18 SCLC patients, and 8 healthy control donors (HDs) were harvested and the surface expression of CD14, CD15, CD11b, and HLA-DR on MDSCs was measured using flow cytometry. The level of serum CXCL8 was measured by the ELISA method.
The frequency of circulating M-MDSCs was significantly higher in patients with NSCLC than in SCLC and HDs. In contrast, there was no statistical difference concerning the frequency of circulating G-MDSCs between the three groups. The concentration of CXCL-8 was significantly higher in the NSCLC and SCLC patients than in HD control with no significant difference between NSCLC and SCLC groups. There was no correlation between serum CXCL8 and G-MDSC levels.
Our data confirm a higher frequency of circulating M-MDSCs, but not G-MDSCs, in the blood of those suffering from NSCLC but not for SCLC cases. Measuring MDSC subtypes and serum chemotactic factors may have implications for the differential diagnosis of NSCLC.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a chronic breathing disorder during sleep. It is prevalent among patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and can increase its severity and mortality. Various studies have reported different results in Iran. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the prevalence of OSA in Iranian patients with CVD.
In this study, eight papers published in Persian and English languages were reviewed. The articles were searched using the following keywords and all their possible combinations "obstructive sleep apnea", "sleep-disordered breathing", "sleep apnea", "OSA", "cardiovascular disease", "hypertension", and "Iran". Scientific databases, including the Scientific Information Database (SID), Magiran, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus, were searched with no time limitations. Data were analyzed using a meta-analysis and a random effects model. Besides, heterogeneity was assessed using the I
statistic. Data analysis was performed in Stata version 11.
The review of eight studies, with a total sample size of 1646 patients, showed that the prevalence of OSA was 59.21% (95% CI 53.11-65.32) among CVD patients. Also, the prevalence of OSA was higher in men (60.12%; 95% CI 60.12-82.54) than in women (41.01%; 95% CI 16.08-65.94). Besides, it was estimated to be higher based on the STOP and STOP-BANG questionnaires (63%; 95% CI 52.89-73.10) as compared to the Berlin questionnaire (56.63%; 95% CI 49.20-64.06).

Local data in Saudi Arabia regarding pediatric SARS-CoV-2 infection is limited. This study is aimed at adding insight regarding the effect of the novel coronavirus on pediatric patients by studying the presentation, laboratory parameters, and disposition of SARS-CoV-2-infected pediatric patients in one center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
. A retrospective study was conducted at the International Medical Center (IMC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to assess features of pediatric patients admitted with COVID-19 from April 2020 to September 2020.
A total of 43 patients were found to meet the study inclusion criteria. The most common presenting symptom was fever (53.5%) in study participants followed by complaints of cough, runny nose, and shortness of breath (37.2%). Lymphocytopenia was evident among 60% of those studied. Elevated C-Reactive Protein was remarkable in 24.9%. More than half of those (53.5%) studied required only supportive treatment.

Tissue engineering of cartilage requires the selection of an appropriate artificial scaffold. Polylactic acid (PLA) honeycomb films are expected to be highly biodegradable and cell adhesive due to their high porosity. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal pore size of honeycomb PLA films for in vitro cartilage formation using synovial mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).
Suspensions of human synovial MSCs were plated on PLA films with different pore sizes (no pores, or with 5
m or 20
m pores) and then observed by scanning electron microscopy. The numbers of cells remaining in the film and passing through the film were quantified. One day after plating, the medium was switched to chondrogenic induction medium, and the films were time-lapse imaged and observed histologically.
The 5
m pore film showed MSCs with pseudopodia that extended between several pores, while the 20
m pore film showed MSC bodies submerged into the pores. The number of adhered MSCs was significantly lower for the film without pores, while the number of MSCs that passed through the film was significantly higher for the 20
m pore film. MSCs that were induced to form cartilage peeled off as a sheet from the poreless film after one day. MSCs formed thicker cartilage at two weeks when growing on the 5
m pore films than on the 20
m pore films.

Honeycomb PLA films with 5 μm pores were suitable for in vitro cartilage formation by synovial MSCs.Concentrated growth factor (CGF) membranes are widely used in basic and clinical research of soft and hard tissue regeneration, but its effect on periodontal tissue regeneration is less studied. This study explored the role of CGF membranes in periodontal tissue regeneration mediated by human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs). HUCMSCs and human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (HPLFs) were extracted and identified by microscope and flow cytometry. The effects of the extracted CGF membrane on cell viability, osteogenic differentiation ability, osteopontin (OPN) expression, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) content, and osteogenic differentiation-related genes (Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2); osteocalcin (OCN); ALP), Tafazzin (TAZ) expression, and nuclear transfer were examined by MTT assay, alizarin red staining, immunofluorescence, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and Western blot. Rescue experiments were performed to examine the effects of TAZ transfection and cell coculture. In the identified hUCMSCs (positive expressions of CD29, CD44, CD146, and CD105), overexpressed TAZ (pc-TAZ) enhanced the promotive effect of CGF membrane on cell viability, cell cycle, mineralization, ALP content and expressions of OPN, TAZ and osteogenic differentiation-related genes, and nuclear transfer. However, silencing TAZ showed opposite effects. The coculture of hUCMSCs and HPLFs further promoted the basic biological functions of HPLFs by upregulating osteogenic differentiation-related genes and COL-1 but downregulated MMP1 expression. Pc-TAZ could enhance the effect of CGF membrane on promoting periodontal tissue regeneration. CGF membrane promoted periodontal tissue regeneration through upregulating TAZ and osteogenic differentiation-related genes.Influenza virus infection may present with fever, chills, headache, myalgia, malaise, and respiratory symptoms, with a few cases developing into pneumonia, respiratory failure, and other organ damage. Very few cases of atraumatic splenic rupture associated with influenza infection have been reported. Atraumatic splenic rupture, while rare, is associated with high mortality. Here, we report the first case of atraumatic splenic rupture associated with influenza infection in the English literature and review the prior reported literature. Methods. Raw materials were collected from Almaty region (Republic of Kazakhstan). Lepidium latifolium L. herb's carbon dioxide extract (CO2 extract) was obtained by subcritical carbon dioxide extraction. A gas chromatograph with a mass spectrometric detector was used to determine the component composition of the extract. Antimicrobial activity was determined by two methods the micromethod of serial dilution and the disc-diffusion method. Four microbial test strains were used Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538-P, Escherichia coli ATCC 8739, Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 10031, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231.
