This paper presents a new algorithm for adaptive resampling, called percentile-based resampling (PBR) in a sequential Bayesian filtering, i.e., particle filter (PF) in particular, to improve tracking quality of the frequency trajectories under noisy environments. Since the conventional resampling scheme used in the PF suffers from computational burden, resulting in less efficiency in terms of computation time and complexity as well as the real time applications of the PF. The strategy to remedy this issue is proposed in this work. After state updating, important high particle weights are used to formulate the pre-set percentile in each sequential iteration to create a new set of high quality particles for the next filtering stage. The number of particles after PBR remains the same as the original. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we first evaluated the performance of the method via numerical examples to a complex and highly nonlinear benchmark system. Then, the proposed method was implemented for frequency estimation for two time-varying signals. From the experimental results, via three measurement metrics, our approach delivered better performance than the others. Frequency estimates obtained by our method were excellent as compared to the conventional resampling method when number of particles were identical. In addition, the computation time of the proposed work was faster than those recent adaptive resampling schemes in literature, emphasizing the superior performance to the existing ones.
Spinal arachnoid cysts (SAC) are intradural lesions, which may provoke a compression of the spinal cord and roots. Endoscopic techniques are increasingly used to minimize the surgical access and the postoperative scar tissue. Shunts may also represent an option. The aim of this paper is to illustrate the technique of endoscopic-assisted fenestration and positioning of a cysto-peritoneal diversion in a thoracic SAC using a flexible endoscope and to perform a systematic literature review on this subject.

We reported our case and we performed a review of the literature, searching for all the adult cases of Type III SACs in English language treated through endoscopic procedures.

We found 5 articles matching our search criteria and we included 9 adult patients in our analysis. Six patients were females and the most common localization was the thoracic spine. Six patients underwent selective laminectomies followed by endoscopic fenestration without cyst wall resection. Three patients had a percutaneous endoscof post-operative complications. The long-term risk of recurrence should be established by prospective studies. The present work aims to evaluate the binding capacities of binary complexes of L-Methionine with transition metal ions CoII, NiII and CuII in Triton X 100-water mixtures, a non-ionic micellar media of different compositions (0.0-2.5% (v/v)), investigated under the experimental conditions of 0.16 mol/dm3 ionic strength using NaNO3 at a temperature of 303.0 ± 0.1 K Potentiometrically. The potentiometric data was assessed by Irving-Rossotti pH metric technique with the least-squares method of MINIQUAD75, a computer program. The selectivity of the best fit model obtained by continuous exhaustive chemical modelling studies and the accuracy of the results is assessed based on statistical parameters. MLH, ML and ML2 are the identified species for the three M(CoII, NiII and CuII) - Met systems. The shift in the equilibrium of binary metal-methionine complexes with variation in composition (0.0-2.5%) of the solvent can be explained by electrostatic together with non-electrostatic forces contributed by the interaction of solute with solvent. In this paper, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were isolated from the cellulose extracted from cocoa pod husk waste, followed by characterization using XRD, FT-IR, TGA, SEM and TEM to determine its crystallinity, structural properties, thermal characteristics, morphology and dimensions respectively. The result revealed that the cocoa pod husk amorphous segments containing hemicelluloses and lignin were extensively removed with increasing chemical treatments leading to increased purity, crystallinity index and thermal stability of the extracted materials. The diameter, length and crystallinity index of the CNC isolated from the CPH are 10-60 nm, 41-155 nm and 67.60% respectively. The present study reports effect of various drying and storage conditions on physical, bioactive compounds, and antioxidant properties of doum (H. thebaica) fruit for the first time. Three types of fruit are used such as fresh, dried from tree, and dried fruits purchased from local market. Pulp of fresh fruit was dried using sun, shade and oven at different temperatures and stored under different conditions for three months. Samples were analysed before and after drying and storage. The results showed significantly (p less then 0.01) higher dry matter (98.73 g/100g), pH (7.09), tannins (27.64 mg/g), flavonoids (19.90 mg/g) and total polyphenols (7.13 mg/g) contents in pericarp than other parts of fruit. learn more The pulp without pericarp exhibited higher ash, amino acids, proteins and vitamin C contents, however pulp of whole fresh fruit had higher Ca (1.67 mg/g), Na (640.26 mg/g) and Zn (11.63 μg/g). Pulp of fruit purchased from local market showed significantly stronger antioxidant activities (DPPH and ABTS). All parameters evaluated were significantly (p less then 0.01) affected in comparison with pulp of fresh fruit but varied with respect to drying methods and storage conditions. The shade-dried samples showed higher proteins, amino acids, vitamin C, ash, fibres and acidity contents than other drying methods. Polyphenols and antioxidant activities are higher in oven-dried samples at low temperature (40 °C) as compared to others. The highest DPPH and ABTS scavenging activities are observed after drying and storage conditions for three months. Significant and positive (p less then 0.01) correlations are found between antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities. Thus, drying methods and storage conditions can preserve pulp of doum fruit with high physicochemical, bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacities for human well-being up to three months, however shade-drying followed by oven-drying are highly promising process that must be considered as suitable drying methods for doum fruits.
