An accelerated cellular ageing has been observed in bipolar disorder (BD) using biomarkers such as telomere length (TL) and mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn). Several risk factors might drive premature ageing in individuals with BD, including a familial predisposition. This study compared TL and mtDNAcn between individuals with BD and their (un)-affected siblings, and explored factors that may explain proband-sibling differences.

Sixty individuals with BD and seventy-four siblings (34 affected with BD or mood disorders and 40 unaffected) were included. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to measure TL and mtDNAcn from peripheral blood genomic DNA.

TL and mtDNAcn did not significantly differ between probands and their siblings, whatever these latter were affected or not with mood disorders. However, the correlation plots of TL or mtDNAcn in proband-sibling pairs suggested that some pairs were discordant. The within proband-sibling pairs differences for TL and mtDNAcn were not explained by differences in all tested factors.

Evaluate the implementation of a pharmacist-managed opioid weaning regimen and objective opioid withdrawal assessment tool in pediatric patients requiring an opioid wean. We hypothesized that this combination would be associated with a reduction in the wean duration and length of stay and decrease episodes of opioid withdrawal.

Retrospective cohort study utilizing pediatric inpatients requiring an inpatient opioid medication wean. The study was conducted in 3 phases from chart review of patients admitted from 2012 to 2020 baseline preintervention (phase 1), pharmacist-managed weaning regimen (phase 2), and addition of an objective assessment tool, the Withdrawal Assessment Tool-1 (phase 3). Data collection included the total wean duration, total duration of hospital admission, and number of episodes of opioid withdrawal.

The study included 115 patients with 36 patients in phases 1 and 3 and 43 patients in phase 2. Median age ranged from 0.46 to 0.84 years and the majority of children were males. No significant differences in patient characteristics such as age, weight, sex, and previous opioid exposure were found between phases. Length of stay, wean duration, and episodes of withdrawal with need for rescue dose all decreased significantly from phase 1 to phase 3.

However, it remains a great chemical challenge due to its unsatisfactory activity and poor selectivity. Here, we report a successful case to greatly improve CO2-to-CO conversion on carbon black (CB) and nitrogen-doped carbon black (N-CB). By introducing fluorine, the faradaic efficiency of CO was increased from 12.8% (CB) and 50.8% (N-CB) to 93.1% (nitrogen and fluorine co-doped carbon black, N,F-CB) at -0.7 V. A partial current density of 4.19 mA cm-2 remained durable for about 23 h. The superiority of N,F-CB can be attributed to its large catalytic areas and abundant N active sites inspired by fluorine doping. Specifically, the fluorine precursor of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) firstly performs as a nitrogen fixator, protecting the catalyst from more nitrogen escaping during the carbonization treatment. The number of nitrogen sites is about 4.4 times higher than it is for the N-CB. Meanwhile, PVDF as the area extender significantly improves the catalytic area; the specific surface area and the ECSA of N,F-CB are 8.7 and 6.9 times higher than that of CB. This work provides an insight into how heteroatoms can manipulate catalytic activity and selectivity through the catalytic area of carbon materials with more active sites.

The novel automated algorithm Cartosoundfam is a model-based algorithm which reconstructs a 3D anatomy of the left atrium (LA) based on a set of 2D intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) frames, without the need to manually annotate ultrasound (US) contours.

There is a lack of research assessing perceived and actual evidence-based dietetics practice knowledge among registered dietitian nutritionists. This cross-sectional research examined the association between determinant factors (i.e., education attainment) and objective knowledge (i.e., quiz items) of evidence-based dietetics practices. Other determinant factors associated with perceived knowledge and skill, attitudes, behaviours and outcomes related to evidence-based dietetics practice were also assessed. Perceived knowledge items were compared to objective knowledge items to evaluate the accuracy of self-assessed evidence-based dietetics practice knowledge among dietitians in the United States.

A modified and adapted evidence-based practice survey was emailed to registered dietitian nutritionists in the United States via the Commission on Dietetic Registration database between November and December 2020. Analysis of variance assessed the relationship between highest degree held and actual knowledge of etion and peer-reviewed publications were supportive of evidence-based dietetics practice-related outcomes. Future research should evaluate the efficacy of training, particularly among those further from their highest completed degree.
