The aim of this study was to examine whether there were independent associations between abdominal aortic diameter, size index, and height index and the risk of major adverse events in patients referred for treatment of various types of aortic and peripheral occlusive and aneurysmal disease (APOAD).

In total, 1 752 participants with a variety of APOADs were prospectively recruited between 2002 and 2020 and had a maximum abdominal aortic diameter, aortic size index (aortic diameter relative to body surface area), and aortic height index (aortic diameter relative to height) measured by ultrasound at recruitment. Participants were followed for a median of 4.6 years (interquartile range 2.0 - 8.0 years) to record outcome events, including major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), peripheral artery surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) events (rupture or repair), and all cause mortality. The association between aortic size and events was assessed using Cox proportional hazard analysis. Asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers and insufficient testing make containment of the virus difficult. The purpose of this study was to determine if unexpected lung base findings on abdominopelvic CTs concerning for COVID-19 infection could serve as a surrogate for the diagnosis of COVID-19 in the community.

A database search of abdominopelvic CT reports from March 1,2020 to May 2,2020 was performed for keywords suggesting COVID-19 infection by lung base findings. COVID-19 status, respiratory symptoms, laboratory parameters and patient outcomes (hospitalization, ICU admission and/or intubation, and death) were recorded. The trend in cases of unexpected concerning lung base findings on abdominopelvic CT at our institution was compared to the total number of confirmed new cases in NYC over the same time period.

The trend in abnormal lung base findings on abdominopelvic CT at our institution correlated with the citywide number of confirmed new cases, including rise and subsequent fall in total cases. The trend was not mediated by COVID-19 testing status or number of tests performed. However, reports show that these properties vary from source to source. Hence, understanding the source-dependent specificity of MSCs and their immunomodulatory abilities will enable optimal use of MSCs in cell-based therapies. Here, we studied human MSCs from three different sources, adipose tissue (AT), bone marrow (BM) and Wharton's jelly (WJ), with respect to phenotypic responses of human peripheral blood mononuclear immune cells (hPBMCs/MNCs) and the concurrent changes in cytokine expression in MSCs, under mitogen-stimulated co-culture conditions. We used cytometric analysis to study the immunoregulatory properties of MSCs on MNCs and cytokine profiling of MSCs using a customized PCR array and solid-phase sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Our results reveal differential modulation of immune cells as well as MSCs upon activation by the mitogen phytohemagglutinin, independently and in co-culture. Notably, we observed source-specific MSC-cytokine signatures under stimulated conditions. Our results show that AT-MSCs up-regulate VEGF, BM-MSCs up-regulate PTGS-2 and WJ-MSCs increase expression of IDO considerably compared with controls. This remarkable modulation in source-specific cytokine expression was also validated at a functional level by quantitative protein expression studies. In our hands, even though MSCs from AT, BM and WJ sources exhibit characteristic immunomodulatory properties, our results highlight that MSCs sourced from different tissues may exhibit unique cytokine signatures and thus may be suitable for specific regenerative applications.
Surface-guided radiotherapy is useful for the pre-positioning and monitoring of radiotherapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of surface guidance on the repeatability of patient localization and to estimate the specific point at which high positional errors occur.

Ten patients without the VOXELAN system (non-VXLN group) and 10 patients with the VOXELAN as the pre-positioning procedure (VXLN group) were included in this analysis. Twelve regions of interest (ROI) were defined in all the patients to verify any misalignment during radiotherapy. Thirteen ROIs were defined on the isocenter.

Compared with the non-VXLN group, the translational positional errors of the VXLN group were the same for all the ROIs. The mean translational positional errors of the VXLN group in the longitudinal direction were approximately 0.1mm, and the standard deviation was the largest among the three directions in all the ROIs. The magnitude of the standard deviation in the non-VXLN group varied independently of the ROI and direction. The standard deviations of the VXLN group in the longitudinal direction were large in all the ROIs, while the standard deviations in the vertical and lateral directions were small.

Pre-positioning with a surface guidance system reduced the body twist and rotation, which could not be corrected by image-guided radiotherapy alone. Since the VOXELAN can detect positioning errors quickly and without additional radiation exposure to the patient, it can be used as a tool for pre-positioning in radiotherapy.

A total of 124 surveys were completed (response rate=13%). Most respondents (60%) had used PGx testing but an equal proportion (58%) was uncertain about the clinical usefulness of PGx testing in late-life mental health. Despite self-reported confidence in the ability to order and interpret PGx testing, 60% of respondents felt there was not enough clinical evidence for them to use PGx testing in their practice. This was compounded by uncertainties related to their ethical obligation and legal liability when interpreting and using (or not using) PGx testing results. Respondents strongly affirmed that clinical and legal guidelines for PGx testing in older adults are needed and would be helpful.
