Results A total 552 patients (364 men; median age 65 years, interquartile range 54-75) were included. In a CT-based model, lower-than-median T5 paravertebral muscle area showed the highest ORs for ICU admission (OR 4.8, 95% CI 2.7-8.5; P less then .001) and death (OR 2.3, 95% CI 1.0-2.9; P=.027). When clinical variables were included in the model, lower-than-median T5 paravertebral muscle area still showed the highest ORs both for ICU admission (OR 4.3; 95% CI 2.5-7.7; P less then .001) and death (OR 2.3, 95% CI 1.3-3.7; P=.001). At ROC analysis, the CT-based model and the model including clinical variables showed the same area under the curve (AUC) for ICU admission prediction (AUC 0.83, P=.380) and were not different in predicting death (AUC 0.86 versus AUC 0.87, respectively, P=.282). Conclusion In hospitalized patients with COVID-19, lower muscle mass on CT was independently associated with ICU admission and hospital mortality.Background Investigations of amide proton signal changes in the white matter of demyelinating diseases may provide important biophysical information for diagnostic and prognostic assessments. Purpose To evaluate amide proton signals in cuprizone-induced rats using amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) MRI, which provides in vivo image contrast by changing amide proton concentrations during demyelination (DEM) and subsequent remyelination (REM). Materials and Methods In this animal study, APTw 7-T MRI was performed in 21 male Wistar rats divided into cuprizone-induced (n = 14) and control (n = 7) groups from February to August 2020. The cuprizone-induced group was further subdivided into DEM (n = 7) and REM (n = 7) groups. Seven weeks after cuprizone feeding, rats in the DEM group were killed prior to transmission electron microscopy and myelin staining, while rats in the REM group were changed to a normal chow diet and fed for 5 weeks. In each group, the APTw signals were calculated using a conventional magneitorial by van Zijl in this issue.Background Activation of brown adipose tissue (BAT) in rodents increases lipolysis in white adipose tissue (WAT) and improves glucose tolerance. Adult humans can have metabolically active BAT. Implications for diabetes and obesity in humans require a better characterization of BAT in humans. Purpose To study fat depots with localized proton MR spectroscopy relaxometry and to identify differences between WAT and fluorine 18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT proven cold-activated BAT in humans. Materials and Methods Participants were consecutively enrolled in this prospective study (ClinicalTrials.gov identifiers NCT01568671 and NCT01399385) from August 2016 to May 2019. Supraclavicular potential BAT regions were localized with MRI. Proton densities, T1, and T2 were measured with localized MR spectroscopy in potential BAT and in subcutaneous WAT. FDG PET/CT after cold stimulation was used to retrospectively identify active supraclavicular BAT or supraclavicular quiescent adipose tissue (QAT) regions. In incident screening rounds, a lower cancer detection rate (CDR) is expected due to a smaller pool of prevalent cancers, and a reduced FPR, due to the availability of prior MRI examinations. Purpose To investigate screening performance indicators of the second round (incidence round) of the DENSE trial. Materials and Methods The DENSE trial (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01315015) is embedded within the Dutch population-based biennial mammography screening program for women aged 50-75 years. MRI examinations were performed between December 2011 and January 2016. Women were eligible for the second round when they again had a negative screening mammogram 2 years after their first MRI. The recall rate, biopsy rate, CDR, FPR, positive predictive values, and distributions of tumo screening examinations in the first round. Purpose To investigate whether the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on scientific publishing by female physicians in medical imaging. Materials and Methods The authors conducted a descriptive bibliometric analysis of the gender of the first and last authors of manuscripts submitted to the top 50 medical imaging journals from March to May 2020 (n = 2480) compared with the same period of the year in 2018 (n = 2238) and 2019 (n = 2355). Manuscript title, date of submission, first and last names of the first and last authors, journal impact factor, and author country of provenance were recorded. The Gender-API software was used to determine author gender. Statistical analysis comprised χ2 tests and multivariable logistic regression. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been demonstrated to play a vital role in a diversity of biological processes in cancers. With the emergence of new evidence, the important function of CSCs in the formation of multidrug resistance of nasopharyngeal cancer has been demonstrated. Dysregulated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is an important contributor to chemoresistance and maintenance of CSCs-like characteristics. This research aims to investigate comprehensively the function of dihydromyricetin (DMY), a natural flavonoid drug, on the cisplatin (cis) resistance and stem cell properties of nasopharyngeal cancer.

In this study, the functional role of DMY in nasopharyngeal cancer progression was comprehensively investigated in vitro and in vivo, and then its relationship with CSCs-like phenotypes and multiple oncogenes was analyzed.

In parallel assays, the growth inhibitory action of cis was enhanced by the addition of DMY in cis-resistant nasopharyngeal cancer cell lines (Hone1/cis and CNE1/cis). Functional assays showed that DMY markedly diminished the stem cell properties of nasopharyngeal cells, such as colony and tumor-sphere formation. In vivo data showed that the growth of Hone1 CSCs formed tumor xenograft was inhibited significantly by the administration of DMY. Additionally, DMY could impair the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and regulate the expression of downstream proteins in nasopharyngeal cancer cells.

Therefore, DMY could be a novel therapeutic agent for nasopharyngeal cancer treatment.The present investigation examined the associations among thwarted belongingness (TB), emotion regulation difficulties (ERD), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom severity among firefighters. First, the associations of TB and ERD with PTSD symptom severity were evaluated. Second, the indirect effect of TB on PTSD symptom severity through ERD was examined. The sample included 246 trauma-exposed firefighters (M age = 40.21, SD = 9.93, 93.1% male) who completed an online questionnaire battery. Results demonstrate significant, positive associations among TB, ERD, and PTSD symptom severity; and an indirect effect of TB on PTSD symptom severity through heightened ERD (β = 0.17; CI [0.08, 0.29]). Alternate indirect effect models were also significant, underscoring the potentially bidirectional associations of these variables. These findings suggest that there is merit in investigating the role of interpersonal factors and ERD among firefighter populations to better understand PTSD symptomatology. Clinical and empirical implications are discussed.Some reports in the literature describe lymphocele formation in up to half of patients following pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) in robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), with 1-2% requiring intervention. Several treatment modalities for symptomatic lymphoceles are available, including percutaneous drainage, sclerosing agents, and surgical marsupialization, typically performed by laparoscopy or with a multiport robotic platform. The advantage of surgical approach is permanent excision of the lymphocele capsule and fewer days with pelvic drains compared to percutaneous drainage. This study aims to describe and illustrate, for the first time, the step-by-step surgical management of symptomatic lymphoceles using a less invasive robotic platform, the da Vinci® Single Port (SP). Material and methods We describe, for the first time in the literature, the outcomes of three patients who underwent lymphocelectomy and marsupialization with the da Vinci® SP for symptomatic lymphoceles following RARP and PLND with the da Vinci® Xi. Results Operative time for cases 1, 2, and 3 was 84, 80, and 79 minutes. The blood loss for each surgery was 25 ml. Patient 2 was discharged in 3 days, while patients 1 and 3 were discharged in 4 days. No intra- or post-operative complications were reported. All patients had their drain removed in under 24 hours after surgery. The mean follow-up period was 7.7 months (3.5-15.8). No patients were readmitted or had lymphocele recurrence. Conclusion Da Vinci® SP lymphocelectomy is safe and feasible with satisfactory outcomes.
