Regression models were used to assess the associations between baseline characteristics, body composition and 90-day adverse outcome, including a composite outcome score of morbidity, ICU-admission, and mortality. An ROC-curve was used to explore the added predictive value of PhA to other clini-04-21.

The anti-cancer effect of vitamin C (VC) has long been speculated, but studies yielded inconsistency. Recent studies reported that supraphysiological concentration of VC have therapeutic or prevention effects for myeloid malignancies with certain mutation signatures. There was a notable proportion of DAT (i.e., DNMT3A, ASXL1, and TET2) and dozens of other genes that mutate in age-related clonal hematopoiesis (ARCH).

Through analyzing the plasma VC concentration and mutations of 21 genes in 215 senior volunteers, we revealed that ARCH is significantly associated with dietary plasma VC concentrations, especially TET2 mutations and non-DAT mutations.

This study firstly disclosed the significant association between VC inadequacy and ARCH in the senior population. It provides evidence that physiological VC concentration has ARCH prevention effect. It will illuminate future explorations on the oral VC supplement in maintaining sound hematopoiesis, reversal ARCH, adjuvant therapy for myeloid malignancies, and prevention of other ARCH related comorbidities.

Most studies have investigated the association between dietary pattern and risk of metabolic syndrome. Limited studies have examined the association between nuts and legumes as a food group and metabolic syndrome. This study explored the association between nuts and legumes and components of metabolic syndrome in Iranian nurses.

This cross-sectional study included a representative sample of 420 female nurses of Isfahan who were randomly selected. Nuts and legumes consumption was assessed using a validated dish-based semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). check details Metabolic syndrome was defined by the National Cholesterol Education Program's Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III). Linear and logistic regression tests were used to study the association between nuts and legumes consumption and metabolic syndrome and its components.

Mean age of study participants was 35 years. The prevalence of the metabolic syndrome among study participants was 3.6%. Consumption of nuts and legumes was not associated witigate further this association.
The Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) is the most used tool to assess malnutrition and/or its risk among older adults. Its Screening section was proposed as a short form (MNA-SF) but studies comparing the two forms present controversial results. Our main aims were to study the agreement between MNA-SF and its full form (MNA-FF) among Portuguese older adults living in the community and to develop a more sensible version of the MNA-SF.

This cross-sectional study used a convenience sample of 456 older adults (54.2% females) aged 65-92 years (mean=73; SD=6). Data analyzed included nutritional status (MNA), social support (Fillenbaum's Social Network Index), level of independency in daily activities (Lawton e Brody's scale) and eating-related quality of life. This study aims to determine the fluoride concentrations of bottled water commercially available in southern Algeria and report the non-carcinogenic health risk via daily human intake.

By 2021, 28 commercial brands were obtained from different supermarkets in Ouargla, Algeria. Fluoride was measured using a validated spectrophotometric method. The fluoride risk quotient (HQ) and the estimated daily intake (EDI) were calculated.

All the brands did not mention the fluoride content on the label. The mean level was 0.40±0.42mg/L, and a wide range was found [0.00-1.65mg/L]. The average was below the WHO standard. Most samples (75%, n=21) contained less than 0.50mg/L, which can cause dental caries. The HQ values average were less than 1, suggesting no health risk associated with drinking bottled water.

With the increasing consumption of bottled water, this work is important for primary prevention programs for dental caries. The main contribution is the constitution of a database concerning the fluoride levels in bottled water marketed in southern Algeria. Labelling of fluoride concentrations by manufacturers should be mandatory.

Of note, the decoction of Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) has been shown to treat viral epidemic diseases. Owing to the rich source of various antiviral constituents, berries could be an alternative source for managing viral infections. In this review, we provide insights into how berry derived components inhibit viral infection and their clinical usefulness in viral disease management.
Sarcopenia is defined as the age-related loss in muscle quantity and quality which is associated with physical disability. The assessment of muscle quantity plays a role in the diagnosis of sarcopenia. However, the methods used for this assessment have many disadvantages in daily practice and research, like high costs, exposure to radiation, not being portable, or doubtful reliability. Ultrasound has been suggested for the estimation of muscle quantity by estimating muscle mass, using a prediction equation based on muscle thickness. In this systematic review, we aimed to summarize the available evidence on existing prediction equations to estimate muscle mass and to assess whether these are applicable in various adult populations.

The databases PubMed, PsycINFO, and Web of Science were used to search for studies predicting total or appendicular muscle mass using ultrasound. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies, version casian population we recommend to use the equation of Abe et al., 2015. While for an Asian population, we recommend to use the equation of Abe et al., 2018, for the South American population, the use of the equation of Barbosa-Silva et al., 2021 is the most appropriate.
