Nadat Napoleon de macht weer had overgenomen ging hij een leger maken om gebieden weer te heroveren. Rusland, Oostenrijk, Pruisen en Engeland maakten zich klaar voor een nieuwe oorlog.
Napoleon wilde met zijn leger Engeland verslaan. De Fransen en de Engelsen troffen elkaar vlak bij Waterloo. Er werd meerdere keren door Napoleon aangevallen, maar de Engelsen hielden stand en toen de Pruisen zich bij de Engelsen aansloten verloor Napoleon op 18 juni 1815 de slag om Waterloo.
Doordat het leger van Napoleon nog dapper door bleef vechten kon Napoleon ontsnappen. Hij vluchtte naar de havenstad Rochefort en wilde daarvandaan naar Amerika. De haven werd door de Engelsen geblokkeerd, dus Napoleon kon niets anders doen dan zich overgeven.
Op 22 juni 1815 moest Napoleon voor de tweede keer afstand doen van de troon en dit keer voorgoed.
De Engelsen verbanden hem naar het eiland Sint Helena in de Atlantische Oceaan, waar Napoleon zijn laatste jaren doorbracht met tuinieren en het schrijven van zijn herinneringen.
Op 5 mei 1821 stierf Napoleon Bonaparte op Sint Helena hij was toen 51 jaar oud.
