What is Pragmatics?

Other philosophers who formulated pragmatist views in the early 1900s were George Herbert Mead and W.E.B Du Bois, who formulated the pragmatist view of social science and the study of race relations; Alain Locke, who came up with pragmatist theories about the structure of education and science; and John Dewey, who articulated pragmatist ideas in areas including public policy, education, and democracy.
In the present, pragmatism continues influence the advancement of technological and scientific applications and the design and evaluation of curriculums and educational programs. Origins
The term pragmatic first came into the United States around 1870. William James (1842-1910) is considered to be the first to use the term pragmatic. He is regarded as the founder of modern psychology as well as a founding pragmatist. John Dewey (1859-1952) was an important figure in the classical pragmatists. He is renowned for his numerous contributions to various areas of philosophical inquiry, such as social theory, ethics, philosophy of education, law aesthetics, and the philosophy of religion. In the latter years of his life, he began to regard pragmatism as the philosophy of democracy.
More recent pragmatists have developed new areas of study like computational pragmatics (the study of computer systems that use context to better comprehend the intentions of their users) games-theoretic, experimental pragmatics and neuropragmatics. These areas of pragmatics help us understand how language and information are utilized.
