Variability and climate change due to anthropic influence have brought about alterations to marine ecosystems, that, in turn, have affected the physiology and metabolism of ectotherm species, such as the common hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini). However, the impact that climate variability may have on this species' distribution, particularly in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor, which is considered an area with great marine biodiversity, is unknown. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of derivate impact of climate change on the oceanographic distribution of the hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini) in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor, contrasting the present and future scenarios for 2050. The methodology used was an ecological niche model based on the KUENM R package software that uses the maximum entropy algorithm (MaxEnt). The modelling was made for the year 2050 under RCP2.6 and RCP8.5 scenarios. A total of 952 models were made, out of which only one met the statistical parameters established as optimal, for future scenarios. The environmental suitability for S.lewini shows that this species would migrate to the south in the Chilean Pacific, associated with a possible warming that the equatorial zone will have and the possible cooling that the subtropical zone of the South Pacific will have by 2050, the product of changes in oceanographic dynamics.Hypertension is the main cause of human death and the Renin- Angiotensin- Aldosterone System (RAAS) has a key role in the control of human blood pressure. In this research a multi-step virtual screening strategy was applied in order to find new potential renin inhibitors. The crystal structure of renin-aliskiren complex was explored and receptor-ligand pharmacophore model was developed and validated using pharmit. ZINC database was screened by pharmacophore model and Lipinski's rule of five. Thereafter, the retrieved hits were docked in the active site of renin by using Vina. ADME parameters and toxicity of the filtered compounds were approximated using in silico methods and the selected compounds were subjected to high performance docking in order to improve the accuracy of screening. The non-bond interactions of the hit molecules with renin were explored and the compounds with the highest affinity and appropriate interactions were selected. In the last step, molecular dynamic simulation studies were performed on the complex of renin with aliskiren and three top-ranked structures including ZINC6085004, ZINC426421106, and ZINC5481346. RMSD, RMSF, Rg and number of hydrogen bonds were calculated. The binding free energy was calculated using the MM/PBSA method. The result of MD simulation indicated the stable binding of ZINC426421106 and ZINC5481346 with the active site of renin. According to this in-silico study these two compounds are drug-like, nontoxic, and have a high potential for inhibiting renin and could serve as appropriate lead molecules for the development of renin inhibitors as antihypertensive agents.The human body involves a large number of systems subjected to contact stresses and thus experiencing wear and degradation. The limited efficacy of existing solutions constantly puts a significant financial burden on the healthcare system, more importantly, patients are suffering due to the complications following a partial or total system failure. More effective strategies are highly dependent on the availability of advanced functional materials demonstrating excellent tribological response and good biocompatibility. In this article, we review the recent progress in implementing two-dimensional (2D) materials into bio-applications involving tribological contacts. We further summarize the current challenges for future progress in the field.
Due to Pulmonary Artery Endothelial Cell (PAEC) dysfunction, Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) persists even after the Pulmonary Embolism (PE) has been relieved. However, the mechanism behind this remains unclear.
Here, the authors incubated Human PAECs (HPAECs) with thrombin to simulate the process of arterial thrombosis.
CCK8 results showed a decrease in the viability of HPAECs after thrombin incubation. In addition, the expression of Tissue Factor (TF), Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein1 (MCP-1), VCAM-1, ICAM-1, cleaved caspase3, cleaved caspase9, and Bax protein were all increased after thrombin incubation, while Bcl-2 was decreased. The effects of 3-MA treatment further suggested that autophagy might mediate the partial protective effects of Resveratrol on HPAECs. To observe the effects of Resveratrol in vivo, the authors established a Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) model by repeatedly injecting autologous blood clots into a rat's left jugular vein. The results exhibited that Mean Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (mPAP) and vessel Wall Area/Total Area (WA/TA) ratio were both decreased after Resveratrol treatment. Moreover, Resveratrol could reduce the concentration and activity of TF, vWF, P-selectin, and promote these Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) in plasma. Western blot analysis of inflammation, platelet activation, autophagy, and apoptosis-associated proteins in pulmonary artery tissue validated the results in PHAECs.
These findings suggested that reduced autophagy, increased oxidative stress, increased platelet activation, and increased inflammation were involved in CTEPH-induced HPAEC dysfunction and the development of PH, while Resveratrol could improve PAEC dysfunction and PH.

The current study explores the impact of Confucianism on social and emotional health (SEH), which focuses on the skill-based aspect of Confucian Vietnamese adolescents. A hermeneutic phenomenological study was chosen as an appropriate approach for collecting and interpreting descriptions of 15 Confucian Vietnamese adolescents to explore how these lived experiences have shaped their current perceptions of SEH. We have labeled the two shared common characteristics in the participants' various SEH experiences, including (1) Authentic perception of Confucian philosophy strengthens the self-esteem; (2) Positive practice of the 5-essential human virtues helps establish and maintain healthy, supportive relationships. The two essences reflected the positive impact of Confucianism on SEH of Vietnamese adolescents. The adolescents' SEH experiences are consistent with Confucian philosophy while at the same time not conflicting with other religious doctrines. The findings of this study have broadened our understanding of the applicability of socio-emotional competence models to promote positive psychological development in adolescents, and the feasible goal-setting in counseling and psychotherapy from different psychological theories about the combination of religious and spiritual practices.The aim of this study is to analyze the exercise of rights to legal capacity, personal freedom, and safety during psychiatric hospitalizations at a general hospital in an inner city from the state of São Paulo, Brazil, from the perspective of patients. This is a cross-sectional qualitative research study. Data were collected by interviewing 20 patients in the process of being discharged from the studied hospital who agreed to participate in the investigation. The guiding instrument of this interview was based on the WHO QualityRights interview tool and the obtained data were processed by means of thematic and content analyses. Results showed that the legal processes resulting from the Psychiatric Reform did not ensure the full exercise of the human rights of people with mental disorders admitted at general hospitals. Participants generally did not know about their rights to have access to their information and referred that they received information about their own health or these were given to their representatives.Microplastic particles (MPs) are widely distributed in the environment. The high surface ratio of MPs make them effective transmission mediums for many toxic pollutants. The combined toxicity of MPs and heavy metals have received increasing attention in recent years. In this study, effects of MPs (100 μg/L) on the toxicity of low (15 μg/L) and high (150 μg/L) concentrations of cadmium (Cd) to zebrafish were evaluated based on a 10-day subacute exposure. The survival rate, growth, antioxidant capacity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, histology and Cd biological enrichment in different tissues were investigated with the objective to understand the effect and mechanism of MPs on Cd toxicity to zebrafish. The results showed that the effect of MPs on Cd toxicity mainly depended on the concentration of Cd. MPs significantly enhanced the toxicity of low concentrations of Cd (LCd), including lower antioxidant enzyme activities, higher ROS levels, more severe tissue damage, inhibited growth rate and lower survival rate. However, the effects of MPs on the toxicity of high concentrations of Cd (HCd) were exactly opposite to LCd. Cd enrichment analysis showed that MPs could significantly increase LCd accumulation in intestine, gill, skin and muscle tissues, while decrease the enrichment of HCd in liver, intestine, gill and muscle tissues. Free Cd in the exposure water was significantly decreased by MPs in the HCd and MPs combined exposure group. These results suggest that effect of MPs on Cd toxicity to zebrafish depending on Cd concentration, MPs can increase the enrichment of LCd in zebrafish and enhance its toxicity, but can decrease the enrichment of HCd in zebrafish and attenuate its toxicity. The present study will broaden our understanding of the interaction between MPs and heavy metals.Mineral oil saturated (MOSH) and aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) and related hydrocarbons of synthetic origin are both packaging and processing contaminants of health concerns. The purpose of this work was to validate a method for their rapid and high-sensitivity determination in cocoa powder, using it to monitor the presence of these contaminants in products purchased in Italy and North Macedonia. Relevant primary and secondary packaging was also analyzed. Method performance was good (average recovery 74-106 %, with RSD ≤13 %). In addition to pre-existing contamination, oligomeric polyolefin hydrocarbons (POH) from primary plastic packaging and MOSH/MOAH from recycled cardboard secondary packaging were found in many samples. Total MOSH/POH ranged from 1.2 to 69.2 mg/kg (on average 20.9 mg/kg), exceeding the German benchmark levels of 9 mg/kg in half of the samples from Italy and in all those from Northern Macedonia. Most of the samples had MOAH >0.5 mg/kg.Innate immune cells are of broad interest in a variety of diseases. COPD and periodontitis are common epidemic diseases with a very high prevalence, thus affecting a large number of people and also reducing the quality of life of patients. In addition, epidemiological studies suggested a link between the two, creating a co-morbid burden, but the mechanism of the link is yet to be explained. This article discusses the possible mechanism of the link between the two diseases in terms of innate immune cells and discusses possible future targeted therapies that could alleviate the burden on patients.
