This paper analyzes the characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 in comparison with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and influenza. COVID-19 is similar to the diseases caused by SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV virologically and etiologically, but closer to influenza in epidemiology and virulence. The comparison provides a new perspective for the future of the disease control, and offers some ideas in the prevention and control management strategy. We thus need to contemplate the possibility of long-term co-existence with COVID-19.In this work, the viscoelastic behavior of polypropylene (PP)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) nanocomposites was investigated by indentation testing and phenomenological modeling. Firstly, indentation tests including two-cycle indentation were carried out on PP/MWCNT nanocomposite with three MWCNT loadings (1, 3 and 5 wt %). Next, the Maxwell-Voigt-Kelvin model coupled with two-cycle indentation tests was used to predict the shear creep compliance function and the equivalent indentation modulus. The indentation hardness and elastic modulus of the PP/MWCNT nanocomposites extracted based on the Oliver and Pharr method were compared with the equivalent indentation modulus predicted based on the Maxwell-Voigt-Kelvin mode. The experimental results indicated that the addition of nanotubes into the polypropylene has a positive effect on the micro-mechanical properties of PP/MWCNT nanocomposites. Indentation hardness and elastic modulus increased significantly with increasing MWCNT loading. The creep resistance at the micro-scale of the PP/MWCNT nanocomposites improved with the addition of MWCNTs, with creep displacement reduced by up to 20% by increasing the carbon nanotube loading from 1 to 5 wt %. The Maxwell-Voigt-Kelvin model with three and five Voigt-Kelvin units accurately predicted the shear creep function and its change with increasing MWCNT loading. However, the equivalent indentation modulus was found to be sensitive to the number of Voigt-Kelvin units the more Voigt-Kelvin units, the better the model predicts the equivalent indentation modulus.To assist the global eradication of peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV), a molecular test for the rapid and reliable detection of PPRV was developed which additionally enables the detection of pathogens relevant for differential diagnostics. For this purpose, the necessary time frame of a magnetic bead-based nucleic acid extraction protocol was markedly shortened to 7 min and 13 s. The final evaluation was conducted on the BioRad CFX96 and also on a portable Liberty16 qPCR cycler. The new molecular test designated as "FastCheckFLI PPR-like", which is based on rapid nucleic acid extraction and high-speed RT-qPCR, delivered reliable results in less than one hour, allowing its use also in a pen-side scenario.Tryptophan (TRP) is an essential amino acid which cannot be synthesized by humans and animals, but has to be supplied by exogenous sources, notably through the diet. The bulk of dietary TRP flows into the synthesis of body's proteins, but the TRP metabolism also involves several biochemical reactions (i.e., serotonin and kynurenine pathways). Defects in the TRP transport mechanism or catabolism are related to a large number of clinical abnormalities. Therefore, dietary TRP intake is necessary not only for the body's growth but also for most of the body's metabolic functions. Among protein-based foods, milk proteins provide a relatively high amount of TRP. In this paper, a rapid chromatographic method for TRP determination in yoghurt, by ultra high performance liquid chromatography on a reversed-phase column with fluorescence detection (280 nm Ex; 360 nm Em), is provided. A linear gradient elution of acetonitrile in water allowed TRP analysis in 8.0 min. The limit of detection and limit of quantification of the method were 0.011 ng/µL and 0.029 ng/µL, respectively, using 5-methyl-l-tryptophan as the internal standard. The analytical method was successfully applied to commercial yoghurts from different animal species, and the TRP values ranged between 35.19 and 121.97 mg/100 g (goat and cow Greek type yoghurt, respectively).Moulding technologies are remarkably effective for parts requiring high production volumes. Yet cooling the moulds after each injection can cause a significant loss of time. A possibility for reducing the cooling times is to use cooling inserts and conformal cooling strategies. In the present case, the original inserts of a mould must be substituted because the original material cannot be utilized anymore (toxicity). Will it be technically feasible to achieve a proper cooling only by modifying the inserts? Here, the cooling inserts of high production steel moulds utilized to manufacture ribs for swimming pool sinks' plastic cages are redesigned, simulated and manufactured, taking advantage of Selective Laser Melting possibilities and without modifying the geometry of the obtained parts, nor the rest of the moulds. The results reveal a reduction in the mould cooling times of up to 8%, while maintaining the same conformation properties, thus leading to important savings of time and some global costs in the production outcomes. The study also benchmarks the production economic limits of this approach compared to other possible strategies, such as the development of full new conformal cooling moulds or the industrial production of the parts with plastic additive manufacturing (multi jet fusion) technology.The introduction of the IDIC/ITIC families of non-fullerene acceptors has boosted the photovoltaic performances of bulk-heterojunction organic solar cells. The fine tuning of the photophysical, morphological and processability properties with the aim of reaching higher and higher photocurrent efficiencies has prompted uninterrupted worldwide research on these peculiar families of organic compounds. The main strategies for the modification of IDIC/ITIC compounds, described in several contributions published in the past few years, can be summarized and classified into core modification strategies and end-capping group modification strategies. In this review, we analyze the more recent advances in this field (last two years), and we focus our attention on the molecular design proposed to increase photovoltaic performance with the aim of rationalizing the general properties of these families of non-fullerene acceptors.Many studies have shown that neonates of smoking mothers have a lower birth weight, but several issues remain poorly studied, e.g., the effects of giving up smoking or the combined effects of smoking and maternal obesity. Therefore, we evaluated a prospective cohort of 912 mothers in a single pregnancy, recruited in Poland, in 2015-2016. In the cohort, we recorded 72 (7.9%) newborns with birth weight less then 10th percentile, 21 (2.3%) fetal growth restriction (FGR) cases, and 60 (6.6%) low birth weight (LBW, less then 2500 g) newborns. In the cohort, 168 (18.4%) women smoked before pregnancy; the mean number of cigarettes/day was 10.8 (1-30), and the mean number of years of cigarette smoking was 8.5 (1-25). Among smokers, 57 (6.3%) women smoked in the first trimester. Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) of newborn outcomes (with 95% confidence intervals, CI) was calculated in multi-dimensional logistic regressions. Compared to participants who had never smoked, smoking before pregnancy was associated with a higher sk of birth weight less then 10th percentile (AOR = 6.39, CI 2.01-20.34, p = 0.002) and FGR (AOR = 6.25, CI 0.86-45.59, p = 0.071). The length of cigarette smoking time was also the risk factor for studied outcomes. Conclusions Smoking in the first trimester increased the studied risks, and the coexistence of excessive maternal weight increased the effects. Smoking cessation during the second/third trimester did not have a protective effect.
Assessing the use of multiple medications in cancer patients is crucial as such use may affect cancer outcomes. This study reports the prevalence of non-cancer medication use at breast cancer diagnosis, its associated factors, and its effect on survival.

We identified all women diagnosed with primary invasive breast cancer between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2016, from four population-based breast cancer registries, in Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, and Christchurch, New Zealand. Through linkage to the pharmaceutical records, we obtained information on non-cancer medications that were dispensed for a minimum of 90 days' supply between one year before cancer diagnosis and first cancer treatment. We performed ordered logistic regressions to identify associated factors and Cox regressions to investigate its effect on patient survival.

Of 14,485 patients, 52% were dispensed at least one drug (mean-1.3 drugs; maximum-13 drugs), with a higher prevalence observed in patients who were older, treated at a public facility, more economically deprived, and screen-detected. check details The use of 2-3 drugs showed a reduced non-breast cancer mortality (HR = 0.75, 95%CI = 0.60-0.92) in previously hospitalised patients, with other groups showing non-significant associations when adjusted for confounding factors.
