Blood potassium tetrafluoroborate-induced defect patience permits productive wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells.
Lipid oxidation products generated during meat digestion may contribute to the apparent epidemiological link between red meat intake and the risk of cardiovascular diseases and colorectal cancer. The aim of this work was to assess the lipid oxidation inhibitory activity of black, green, and pink pepper during cooking and in vitro digestion of meat. Peppers were characterized for their phenolic profiles by LC-ESI-MS and the antioxidant properties. Pink pepper showed the highest phenolic content and antioxidant activities. Then, the peppers were added to meat either before or after cooking, and the meat was subjected to in vitro digestion. Pink pepper added before cooking was the most effective, with an inhibition of 80% and 72% in lipid hydroperoxides and TBA-RS formation after digestion, respectively. These findings suggest that peppers, particularly pink pepper, can be used to minimize lipid oxidation in the gastro-intestinal tract and for the design of healthy dietary patterns.Fatty acids and nucleotides are major contributors of pork flavor, which are key quality traits influencing consumers' preference. In this study, we investigated the contents of nucleotides (inosinic acid, inosine, and hypoxanthine) and 26 fatty acids by high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography in longissimus dorsi and semimembranous muscle of four breeds (Dongbei Min pig, Beijing Black pig, Wuzhishan pig, and DLY pigs). Combining with multivariate statistics, we found significant differences in the nucleotides and fatty acids compositions among the breeds and muscles. Furthermore, the content of total unsaturated fatty acids and DHA were higher in native pigs than crossbred pigs. This study provides a theoretical basis for understanding the composition of flavor precursor substances, as well as for the identification of different muscles. This study was to explore effects of hot air assisted or not assisted radio frequency (RF, 27.12 MHz, 1.4 kW) heating with different electrode gaps (100 mm, 120 mm, and 140 mm) on the water-holding capacity (WHC) of myofibrillar protein (MP) gel and to understand the underlying mechanism through chemical forces, water distribution, and structure. The results showed that the MP gels heated by RF (100 mm) had the highest WHC and uniform gel network structure. As for RF with 100 mm electrode gap, the increased ionic and hydrogen bonds might be conducive to the WHC compared to water bath heating, which was verified by Low-field nuclear magnetic resonance results that the free water converted into the immobilized water. Raman spectroscopy results revealed that RF (100 mm) induced the self-assembly of β-sheet to α-helix, which conduced to the stable and ordered gel network structure.
To evaluate whether baseline demographic, clinical, and OCT characteristics predict visual acuity (VA) outcomes in patients receiving anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy for macular edema (ME) due to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).

Post hoc analysis of the randomized noninferiority trial (Lucentis, Eylea, Avastin in CRVO) LEAVO Study from December 12, 2014, to December 16, 2016, carried out across 44 UK National Health Service ophthalmology departments.

Data on 267 participants with a baseline best-corrected mean visual acuity (BCVA) range of 19 to 78 Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study letter score (approximate Snellen equivalent, 20/32 to 20/320) who had central subfield thickness (CST) ≥ 320 μm on Spectralis OCT (Heidelberg Engineering) were analyzed.

Study participants were randomized to receive repeated intravitreal injections of ranibizumab (0.5 mg/50 μl), aflibercept (2.0 mg/50 μl), or bevacizumab (1.25 mg/50 μl), and a protocol-driven pro re nata re-treatment r

At presentation, younger age, higher baseline BCVA, and a definitely intact subfoveal EZ are predictors of BCVA score > 70 letters at 100 weeks.

To introduce a novel method for assessment of retinal vasculitis using swept-source OCT angiography (SS-OCTA).

Retrospective case series.

Patients with retinal vasculitis.

The subjects were identified among the clinic population and imaged with 12 × 12-mm SS-OCTA scans centered on the fovea. A custom retina segmentation superimposed the color retinal thickness map on a modified en face flow scan. Findings from en face flow scans were correlated with localized perivascular retinal thickening on B-scans. Results from SS-OCTA were compared with fluorescein angiography (FA) to examine the proportion of perivascular thickening to retinal vascular leakage or staining.

Twenty-one patients with retinal vasculitis underwent same-day FA and SS-OCTA. Visible retinal vascular leakage/staining on FA corresponded to increased perivascular retinal thickness on SS-OCTA in 17 patients. Five patients had a second examination with same-day FA and SS-OCTA after treatment of the vasculitis. Three of those 5 patients showed improved retinal vascular leakage/staining on post-treatment FA and decreased perivascular retinal thickness on SS-OCTA scans.

Swept-source OCT angiography detects structural retinal thickening secondary to inflammatory retinal vascular leakage. Further studies are required to confirm whether SS-OCTA may serve as a semiquantitative alternative to FA to diagnose and monitor the response to treatment in patients with retinal vasculitis.

To evaluate the prognostic significance of persistent choroidal hypertransmission defects (HyperTDs) detected on en face OCT imaging for predicting the progression of drusen to geographic atrophy (GA) by analyzing their association with the presence of nascent GA (nGA).

Retrospective, post hoc subgroup analysis of a prospective study.

Patients with bilateral soft drusen from a natural history study.

Participants underwent both Spectralis SD-OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) and Cirrus SD-OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA) imaging over 36 months at 6-month intervals. The Spectralis SD-OCT B-scans were used to grade nGA. En face imaging of Cirrus SD-OCT scans was used to detect HyperTDs, masked to nGA gradings. Hypertransmission defects with greatest linear dimension (GLD) of 125 μm or more were tracked throughout visits.

The GLD at baseline for best discrimination between persistent and transient HyperTDs over 36 months and the association between these HyperTDs with nGA assessed wir detecting nGA.

Choroidal HyperTDs on en face OCT imaging were associated strongly with nGA. The potential of using HyperTDs with GLD of 250 μm or more or 300 μm as a risk factor for the progression of drusen to GA is promising and requires further study.

We describe the large-scale self-initiated recruitment of patients to a self-monitoring initiative for macular pathologic features during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Observational study with retrospective analysis.

A total of 2272 patients from the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) whose visits were rescheduled over lockdown (April 13-June 1, 2020) were offered participation in a self-monitoring initiative administered by SNEC with the Alleye application (Switzerland) as the testing instrument.

This was an observational study with retrospective analysis. Demographics and characteristics were compared between those who signed up and those who did not. Similar comparisons were made between patients who complied with the initiative versus those who did not. Outcomes were tracked for 6 months starting from the commencement of lockdown.

Participation and compliance rates and characteristics of patients who were more likely to participate and comply with the initiative.

Seven huitoring program. The lower participation rate compared with standardized clinical studies reflects the difficulties in implementation for such initiatives in clinical settings. Despite this, self-monitoring continues to show promise in relieving clinic resources, suggesting the feasibility of scaling such programs beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

To determine whether eyes with pathologic myopia can be identified and whether each type of myopic maculopathy lesion on fundus photographs can be diagnosed by deep learning (DL) algorithms.

A DL algorithm was developed to recognize myopic maculopathy features and to categorize the myopic maculopathy automatically.

We examined 7020 fundus images from 4432 highly myopic eyes obtained from the Advanced Clinical Center for Myopia.

Deep learning (DL) algorithms were developed to recognize the key features of myopic maculopathy with 5176 fundus images. These algorithms were also used to develop a Meta-analysis for Pathologic Myopia (META-PM) study categorizing system (CS) by adding a specific processing layer. Models and the system were evaluated by 1844 fundus image. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity were used to determine the performance of each DL algorithm. The rate of correct predictions was used to determine the performance of the META-PM smyopic maculopathy. These results will assist in the screening for pathologic myopia and subsequent protection of patients against low vision and blindness caused by myopic maculopathy.

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy may be a useful treatment to prevent the development of delayed neuropsychiatric sequelae (DNS) in patients with acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. However, there is no clear consensus regarding the optimal number of HBO therapy sessions in patients with CO poisoning. Here, we compared the development of DNS after 3 and>3 sessions of HBO therapy in patients with acute CO poisoning.

This prospective observational study recruited 299 patients with CO poisoning. LY2109761 Demographic and clinical information were obtained, including comorbidities, vital signs, and symptoms. Patients were divided into two groups according to whether they received 3 or>3 sessions of HBO therapy (3 HBO vs. >3 HBO). A propensity score-matching process was used to balance potential prognostic factors in both groups.

Of the 299 patients with acute CO poisoning enrolled in this study, 183 (59.0%) were included in the analysis. Patients were excluded for the following reasons age<18years, not underwent HBO therapy, discharged against medical advice, and loss to follow-up.
