Perioperative myocardial ischemia (PMI) after non-cardiac surgery remains a serious postoperative complication. This study analyzed the risk factors and outcomes of patients who suffered from PMI after elective aortic surgery.

Data from 863 patients who underwent elective aortic surgery for aneurysms or Leriche syndrome were retrospectively analysed with regard to PMI. The diagnosis of PMI was based on a positive serum troponin diagnostic test. According to the clinical signs and symptoms, the patients with PMI were divided into two groups symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. Comorbidities, preoperative medication, intraoperative parameters, postoperative complications, mortality, length of intensive care stay and hospitalisation, as well as the long-term follow-up, were compared in a matched-pair analysis (13) with patients without PMI. Logistic regression analyses were performed to identify independent risk factors for PMI.

Thirty-two patients with PMI were identified. Cardiac comorbidities (previouc surgery not only affects long-term survival, but also correlates with worsening of surgical outcome. Thus, meticulous preoperative risk stratification is required for high-risk patients, together with routine postoperative monitoring of troponin levels after aortic surgery.

Recent controversies on the use of drug coated/eluting devices in the arteries of the lower extremities renewed the focus on the evaluation of more conventional techniques. The results of the stenting of short and/or intermediate femoro-popliteal lesions are well known, but little data relate to the endovascular treatment of long femoro-popliteal lesions with contiguous bare metal stents (ETLFBS). The objective of this study was to report our results of ETLFBS.

Between January 2014 and December 2017, 1233 patients had an infrainguinal angioplasty in our center. The files of patients treated for femoropopliteal lesions longer than 250 mm using extensive stenting with contiguous bare metal stents were reviewed and analyzed. The primary outcome was the 12-month primary patency, defined by the absence of restenosis (≥50%) and/or reintervention on the target lesion. Continuous data were expressed as mean and standard deviation. Survival analysis was carried out according to Kaplan-Meier.

Overall, 64 patients2-month primary patency rate of ETLFBS is acceptable. This strategy constitutes an acceptable alternative in patients presenting with critical limb ischemia and a limited life expectancy.Phlegmasia cerulea dolens (PCD) is a rare condition characterized by deep venous thrombosis with gangrene. It can result in critically severe edema that affects the blood supply to the limbs. PCD generally occurs in the lower rather than upper extremity. We herein present a case report of upper extremity PCD and discuss thrombophilia secondary to low protein S activity as the main cause. Catheter-directed thrombolysis via the occluded end of the artery may be one of the best treatment methods for PCD.In this article we aim to provide an overview of the zebrafish interrenal development and function, as well as a review of its contribution to basic and translational research. A search of the PubMed database identified 41 relevant papers published over the last 20 years. Based on the common themes identified, we discuss the organogenesis of the interrenal gland and its functional development and we review what is known about the genes involved in zebrafish steroidogenesis. We also outline the consequences of specific defects in steroid biosynthesis, as revealed by evidence from genetically engineered zebrafish models, including cyp11a2, cyp21a2, hsd3b1, cyp11c1 and fdx1b deficiency. Finally, we summarise the impact of different chemicals and environmental factors on steroidogenesis. Our review highlights the utility of zebrafish as a research model for exploring important areas of basic science and human disease, especially in the current context of rapid technological progress in the field of Molecular Biology. The CNTNAP2 gene has been implicated in several neuropsychological disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia. The CNTNAP2 knockout (KO) rat model, rats without the CNTNAP2 gene, exhibits deficits in social interaction and increases in both repetitive and anxiety-like behaviors. However, deficits in time perception that may underlie several of the neuropsychological disorders implicated have not been investigated. The current study investigated timing in CNTNAP2 KO rats compared to control rats using a discrete-trial temporal bisection task. Results suggested deficits in the timing of relatively long durations in the CNTNAP2 KO rats. This finding is consistent with similar findings previously reported in humans diagnosed with ASD, and is promising for understanding the role that the CNTNAP2 gene may play in timing in certain neuropsychological disorders, and for developing targeted clinical therapies.
This study aims to investigate the effects of prenatal music therapy on fetal and neonatal status.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database were searched for studies investigating the effects of prenatal music therapy. Two independent investigators carried out the literature selection, data analysis, and evidence quality assessment. Eligible studies were qualitatively described and synthesized using meta-analyses.

The outcomes included fetal or neonatal status.

After screening the 821 records yielded by the systematic search, we identified nine eligible studies involving 1419 pregnant women. Eight studies were included in the meta-analysis, and three outcomes were synthesized. Compared with no music therapy, prenatal music therapy did not change fetal heart rate (mean difference [95 % CI] -0.28 [-3.75-3.20] beat/min, P = 0.88, moderate quality), number of fetal movements (mean difference [95 % CI] 0.50 [-0.79-1.78] time/min, P = 0.45, low quality), or number of accelerations (mean difference [95 % CI] 0.16 [-0.87-1.19] time/min, P = 0.76, low quality). This result did not change when two studies with a high risk of bias were excluded. Subgroup analysis showed that prenatal music therapy did not change fetal heart rate, number of fetal movements, or number of accelerations in different intervention phases.

Prenatal music therapy might not change fetal and neonatal status. However, more systematic strategies of prenatal music therapy deserve further exploration.

However, when those factors begin to lose control in testis during aging has not yet been well understood. This study was designed to assess the changes of oxidative stress and DNA damage status, and DNA repair capacity in testis during aging. Thus, male Sprague-Dawley rats at 3, 9, 15 and 24 months of age were used to delineate the dynamic changes in testicular weight and index, testosterone concentration, testicular histology, Nrf2-mediated oxidative stress, DNA damage, DNA repair and apoptosis. Results showed that testicular weight and index, testosterone concentration and spermatid number progressively declined from 9 to 24 months of age. Similarly, seminiferous tubule diameters and seminiferous epithelium heights gradually diminished with aging. Nrf2-mediated antioxidant defense ability was significantly impaired in testis with increasing age including decrehen induce declining testicular function during aging after adult.Surviving in natural environments requires animals to sense sudden events and swiftly adapt behaviour accordingly. The study of such Reactive Adaptive Behaviour (RAB) has been central to a number of research streams, all orbiting around movement science but progressing in parallel, with little cross-field fertilization. We first provide a concise review of these research streams, independently describing four types of RAB (1) cortico-muscular resonance, (2) stimulus locked response, (3) online motor correction and (4) action stopping. We then highlight remarkable similarities across these four RABs, suggesting that they might be subserved by the same neural mechanism, and propose directions for future research on this topic.Ferroptosis, a new form of programmed cell death, provides a new option for anti-tumor treatment. However, the roles of ferroptosis-related (FR) genes in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) were not fully elaborated. In the present study, 185 TCGA samples and 81 ICGC samples were used as training and validation cohorts, respectively. A novel FR risk signature (ALOX5, ALOX12, PTGS2, SAT1, STEAP3 and SQLE) was constructed via the Lasso regression analysis. In TCGA cohort, the risk signature was identified as an independent prognostic factor. Decision curve analysis (DCA) indicated that FR risk score could increase the net benefit when making clinical-decision. In addition, we constructed a nomogram to predict the overall survival rate (OSR) of individual at 1,2,3 year. Meanwhile, the prognostic value was partly validated in ICGC cohort. Through immune analyses, we found that high FR risk could affect the immune abundances of five lymphocytes but not effectively affect the activities of immune-related pathways. Theies in PAAD.
The aim of this study is to determine the therapeutic effects of boric acid cell proliferation, invasion, migration, colony formation, cell cycle and apoptosis mechanisms in ovarian cancer cell line under in vitro conditions.

MDAH-2774 ovarian cancer cells were employed. Real-time PCR test was used to investigate changes in genes and proteins of cell cycle and apoptosis and identified miRNAs under the addition of boric acid. The apoptosis rates were calculated by TUNEL assay. Matrigel invasion, colony formation and Wound healing tests were used to determine invasion and migration. Oxidative stress index value was calculated for oxidative stress.

Boric acid inhibited cell proliferation, invasion, migration and colony formation, but induces apoptosis and oxidative stress. Also, the expression of miRNA-21, miRNA-200a, miRNA-130a and mi-RNA-224 (which are indicators of poor prognosis of ovarian cancer) decreased significantly.

The potential of boric acid as a natural molecule may supports its effectiveness in reducing adverse effects arising from conventional ovarian cancer treatments.
