In this study, using a whitefly-Tomato chlorosis virus (ToCV)-tomato system, we investigated how ToCV modulates B. tabaci MED reproduction to facilitate its spread. Here, we hypothesized that ToCV-infected tomato plants would increase B. tabaci MED fecundity via elevated vitellogenin (Vg) gene expression. As a result, fecundity and the relative expression of B. tabaci MED Vg was measured on ToCV-infected and uninfected tomato plants on days 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24. The role of Vg on B. link2 tabaci MED reproduction was examined in the presence and absence of ToCV using dietary RNAi. ToCV infection significantly increased B. tabaci MED fecundity on days 12, 16 and 20, and elevated Vg expression on days 8, 12 and 16. Both ovarian development and fecundity of B. tabaci MED were suppressed when Vg was silenced with or without ToCV infection. These combined results suggest that ToCV infection increases B. tabaci MED fecundity via elevated Vg expression.This paper presents a power-oriented monitoring of clock signals that is designed to avoid synchronization failure in computer systems such as FPGAs. link2 The proposed design reduces power consumption and increases the power-oriented checkability in FPGA systems. In children and adolescents, chronic low-grade inflammation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of co- and multi-morbid conditions to mental health disorders. Diet quality is a potential mechanism of action that can exacerbate or ameliorate low-grade inflammation; however, the exact way dietary intake can regulate the immune response in children and adolescents is still to be fully understood.
Studies that measured dietary intake (patterns of diet, indices, food groups, nutrients) and any inflammatory biomarkers in children and adolescents aged 2 to19 years and published until November 2020 were included in this systematic review, and were selected in line with PRISMA guidelines through the following databases Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, Global Health, Medline COMPLETE and Web of Science-Core Collection. A total of 53 articles were identified.
Results show that adequate adherence to healthful dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean diet, or food groups such as vegetables and fruit, or macroty diet, high in vegetable and fruit intake, wholegrains, fibre and healthy fats ameliorates low-grade inflammation, and therefore represents a promising therapeutic approach, as well as an important element for disease prevention in both children and adolescents.Apoptosis-linked gene 2 (ALG-2, also known as PDCD6) is a member of the penta-EF-hand (PEF) family of Ca2+-binding proteins. The murine gene encoding ALG-2 was originally reported to be an essential gene for apoptosis. However, the role of ALG-2 in cell death pathways has remained elusive. In the present study, we found that cell death-inducing p53 target protein 1 (CDIP1), a pro-apoptotic protein, interacts with ALG-2 in a Ca2+-dependent manner. Co-immunoprecipitation analysis of GFP-fused CDIP1 (GFP-CDIP1) revealed that GFP-CDIP1 associates with tumor susceptibility gene 101 (TSG101), a known target of ALG-2 and a subunit of endosomal sorting complex required for transport-I (ESCRT-I). ESCRT-I is a heterotetrameric complex composed of TSG101, VPS28, VPS37 and MVB12/UBAP1. Of diverse ESCRT-I species originating from four VPS37 isoforms (A, B, C, and D), CDIP1 preferentially associates with ESCRT-I containing VPS37B or VPS37C in part through the adaptor function of ALG-2. Overexpression of GFP-CDIP1 in HEK293 cells caused caspase-3/7-mediated cell death. In addition, the cell death was enhanced by co-expression of ALG-2 and ESCRT-I, indicating that ALG-2 likely promotes CDIP1-induced cell death by promoting the association between CDIP1 and ESCRT-I. We also found that CDIP1 binds to vesicle-associated membrane protein-associated protein (VAP)A and VAPB through the two phenylalanines in an acidic tract (FFAT)-like motif in the C-terminal region of CDIP1, mutations of which resulted in reduction of CDIP1-induced cell death. Therefore, our findings suggest that different expression levels of ALG-2, ESCRT-I subunits, VAPA and VAPB may have an impact on sensitivity of anticancer drugs associated with CDIP1 expression.
The current treatment of venous disease is focused on reflux elimination in main venous trunks, especially in the saphenous vein. However, a high recurrence rate, independent of the method of treatment, suggests that the reason of low effectiveness may be due to a strategy focused on symptoms, without considering their origin.
The aim of study was the comparison of retrospective data from 535 women with venous disease, either after treatment (
= 183) or not treated before (
= 352). The analysis concerned clinical symptoms and the results of the extended diagnostics, including the examination of the lower limb, pelvic and abdominal veins either using duplex-doppler ultrasound as well as venography with computed tomography or magnetic resonance.
The comparison of selected venous system parameters revealed more advanced disease progression in previously treated patients, compared to non-treated individuals (e.g., ipsi- or bilateral incompetence of sapheno-phemoral junction-29.5% vs. link2 20.4%, at
< 0.05 and 13.6% vs. link3 7.7% at
< 0.05, respectively). This difference could be explained by post-treatment alterations in the venous system, an older age and the higher number of pregnancies in the recurrence group. However, both groups did not differ in regards to the symptoms of pelvic venous insufficiency or the frequency of relevant variants/abnormalities in venous system.
Based on the aforementioned findings, we postulate the revision of treatment strategy, which should consider abdominal and pelvic veins as the source of reflux in many female subjects.

Although platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) receptor expression in Müller glia has been reported earlier, their actual role for Müller cell function and intimate interaction with cells of the retinal neurovascular unit remains unclear. To close this gap of knowledge, Müller cell-specific PDGF receptor alpha (PDGFRα) knockout (KO) mice were generated, characterized, and subjected to a model of choroidal neovascularization (CNV). link3 PDGFRα-deficient Müller cells could not counterbalance hypoosmotic stress as efficiently as their wildtype counterparts. In wildtypes, the PDGFRα ligand PDGF-BB prevented Müller cell swelling induced by the administration of barium ions. This effect could be blocked by the PDGFR family inhibitor AC710. PDGF-BB could not restore the capability of an efficient volume regulation in PDGFRα KO Müller cells. Additionally, PDGFRα KO mice displayed reduced rod and cone-driven light responses. Altogether, these findings suggest that Müller glial PDGFRα is central for retinal functions under physiological conditions. link3 In contrast, Müller cell-specific PDGFRα KO resulted in less vascular leakage and smaller lesion areas in the CNV model. Of note, the effect size was comparable to pharmacological blockade of PDGF signaling alone or in combination with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy-a treatment regimen currently being tested in clinical trials. These data imply that targeting PDGF to treat retinal neovascular diseases may have short-term beneficial effects, but may elicit unwarranted side effects given the putative negative effects on Müller cell homeostatic functions potentially interfering with a long-term positive outcome.
