As the eigenvalues of a persistent Laplacian matrix are the roots of its characteristic polynomial, one may attempt to find the roots of the characteristic polynomial by homotopy continuation, and thus resolving the spectrum of the corresponding persistent Laplacian. We consider a set of simple polytopes and small molecules to prove the principle that algebraic topology, combinatorial graph, and algebraic geometry can be integrated to understand the shape of data.What are the effects of school and daycare facility closures during the COVID-19 pandemic on parental well-being and parenting behavior? To answer these questions, this study leverages cross-state variation in emergency childcare eligibility rules during the first COVID-19 lockdown in Germany and draws on unique data from the 2019 and 2020 waves of the German AIDA family panel. Employing a triple-differences approach we identify short- to medium-term intention-to-treat effects and find that while emergency care policies did not considerably affect parents' life satisfaction, partnership satisfaction or mental health, they have been effective in diminishing harsh parenting behavior. We find partly gendered effects, specifically on paternal parenting behavior. Our results suggest that decreasing parental well-being likely constitutes a general effect of the pandemic, whereas the observed increase in negative and potentially harmful parenting behavior is largely directly caused by school and daycare facility closures.

gene among different categories of COVID-19 patients might aid in understanding the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and contribute to developing disease-specific biomarkers and therapeutic strategies.

This is a cross-sectional study involving a total of 84 COVID-19 patients confirmed by positive RT-PCR and 28 healthy controls. COVID-19 patients were recruited from the intensive care unit (ICU) and COVID unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Shahbag, Dhaka. COVID-19 patients were categorized into moderate, severe, and critically ill groups according to the World Health Organization classification. The serum IP-10, MCP-1, and MIP-1α levels were measured by cytometric bead array assay by flow cytometry, and serum IL-6 level was detected by the chemiluminescence method. rs12252 SNP of the
gene was detected by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR RFLP).

The serum IP-10, MCP-1, MIP-1α, and IL-6 levels among critically ill COVID-19 patients were significantly higher than that in patients with moderate disease and healthy controls (
 < 0.001). VE-821 in vivo Genotype distribution for rs12252 (42T/C) SNP of the
gene between the different groups of COVID-19 patients and healthy controls showed that CC genotype was statistically associated with disease severity (
 < 0.001).

Vitamin D may play a vital role in preventing the multi-system consequences of COVID-19 infections. The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential association between mean serum levels of vitamin D and COVID-19 and its correlation with severity and mortality.

A case-control study conducted on 80 Egyptian patients admitted at Ain Shams University designated hospitals, Cairo, Egypt, from March 2021 to September 2021. Regarding the laboratory investigations, we found that COVID-19 cases have significantly lower lymphocytic counts than controls. Regarding vitamin D, this study showed a statistically significant positive correlation between vitamin D and lymphocytes, and there were statistically significant negative correlations between vitamin D, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, C-reactive protein, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase, and D-dimer.

House dust mite (HDM) is the predominant cause of allergic rhinitis (AR) in Hong Kong but remains under-diagnosed and -treated. The association between patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and nasoendoscopy findings for AR have also not been investigated. This study investigated the demographics, sensitisation patterns, quality of life, use of sublingual immunotherapy and the association of PROMs and nasoendoscopy findings in AR patients through the first allergist-otorhinolaryngologists AR joint (ARJ) clinic in Hong Kong.

This single-centred, retrospective observational study was conducted between January 2021 and December 2021. Clinical data from AR patients attending the ARJ clinic were analysed to identify the prevalence of HDM allergens, change in PROMs and the association of PROMs with nasoendoscopy scores.

The three most common sensitising HDM allergens were
(94.4%),
(88.9%) and
(88.9%). At the 13- to 32-week follow-up (median 28weeks), patients who attended the ARJ clinic had significant improvement in Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS;
 = 0.038). The visual analogue scale (VAS) was associated with nasoendoscopy score (
 = 0.018). Patients using SLIT (sublingual immunotherapy) showed overall improvements in PROMs.

The ARJ clinic significantly improved AR symptoms. SLIT was effective and safe for patients who failed conventional treatments. VAS positively correlated with nasoendoscopy findings. Testing for
as asingle agent during skin testing was sufficient for the diagnosis of HDM AR and should be prioritized when resources are restricted. Further studies should be done to investigate the treatment outcome of AR patients and the effectiveness of SLIT in the Chinese population.

The flakes are dried and crystallised in a first reactor, then extruded into pellets. These pellets are crystallised, preheated and treated in a solid-state polycondensation (SSP) reactor. Having examined the challenge test provided, the Panel concluded that the drying and crystallisation (step 2), extrusion and crystallisation (step 3) and SSP (step 4) are critical in determining the decontamination efficiency of the process. The operating parameters to control the performance of these critical steps are temperature, air flow and residence time for the drying and crystallisation step, and temperature, pressure and residence time for the extrusion and crystallisation step as well as the SSP step. It was demonstrated that this recycling process is able to ensure that the level of migration of potential unknown contaminants into food is below the conservatively modelled migration of 0.1 μg/kg food. Therefore, the Panel concluded that the recycled PET obtained from this process is not of safety concern when used at up to 100% for the manufacture of materials and articles for contact with all types of foodstuffs for long-term storage at room temperature, with or without hotfill.
