subgroup analysis, the cumulative effect of lag0-7 was higher in males and school-age children than in females and other age groups, respectively. In addition, we found that the effect of is higher as the duration increases. Conclusion This study suggests an association between cold spell and childhood asthma, and minimum AT may be a better indicator to define the cold spells. Boys and school-age children are more vulnerable to cold spell. And one of our very interesting findings is that if a cold spell lasts for several days, the impact of the cold spell on those later days is likely to be greater than that of the previous days. In conclusion, we should pay more attention to the protection of boys and school-aged children in our future public health protection and give more attention to those cold spells that last longer. Therefore, we recommend that schools and health authorities need to take targeted measures to reduce the risk of asthma in children during the cold spell.Lombardy, the most populated and industrialized Italian region, was the epicentre of the first wave (March and April 2020) of COVID-19 in Italy and it is among the most air polluted areas of Europe. We carried out an ecological study to assess the association between long-term exposure to particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on COVID-19 incidence and all-cause mortality after accounting for demographic, socioeconomic and meteorological variables. The study was based on publicly available data. Multivariable negative binomial mixed regression models were fitted, and results were reported in terms of incidence rate ratios (IRRs) and standardized mortality ratios (SMR). The effect of winter temperature and humidity was modelled through restricted cubic spline. Data from 1439 municipalities out of 1507 (95%) were included in the analyses, leading to a total of 61,377 COVID-19 cases and 40,401 deaths from all-causes collected from February 20th to April 16th and from March 1st to April 30th, 2020, respectively. Several demographic and socioeconomic variables resulted significantly associated with COVID-19 incidence and all-cause mortality in a multivariable fashion. An increase in average winter temperature was associated with a nonlinear decrease in COVID-19 incidence and all-cause mortality, while an opposite trend emerged for the absolute humidity. An increase of 10 μg/m3 in the mean annual concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 over the previous years was associated with a 58% and 34% increase in COVID-19 incidence rate, respectively. Similarly, a 10 μg/m3 increase of annual mean PM2.5 concentration was associated with a 23% increase in all-cause mortality. click here An inverse association was found between NO2 levels and COVID-19 incidence and all-cause mortality. Our ecological study showed that exposure to PM was significantly associated with the COVID-19 incidence and excess mortality during the first wave of the outbreak in Lombardy, Italy.3-Nitro-4-hydroxy-phenylarsonic acid (3-NHPAA), an organic-arsenic compound, as one of widely used antibacterial veterinary drug, has greatly attracted the attention due to its potential threats on ecological environment. A series of the nanocomposites of zirconia nanoparticles with crystal phases (pure monoclinic, pure tetragonal and mixed phase (monoclinic + tetragonal)) anchored on reduced graphene oxide were produced through managing the concentration of triethanolamine solution and the reaction time. The effects of the crystal phases of the zirconia in the structure of the nanocomposites were played a key role in the adsorption performances of the 3-NHPAA. Experiment data identified the nanocomposites with monoclinic phase of zirconia excelled at the adsorption of the 3-NHPAA with a higher adsorption capacity up to 207.2 mg g-1. The uptake of the 3-NHPAA by the three nanocomposites was implemented within 60 min and highly pH-dependent which illustrated electrostatic attraction between them as a main mechanism during the adsorption process. A wider pH range (3.8-8.8) for the uptake of the 3-NHPAA by the nanocomposites with the monoclinic phase of zirconia was obtained compared with the nanocomposites containing tetragonal phase (3.8-5.9) or the mixed phase (3.8-7.1) of zirconia. The adsorption of the 3-NHPAA was well described by the pseudo-second order kinetic and Langmuir equations. The thermodynamic parameters suggested that the adsorption of the 3-NHPAA over the three nanocomposites was endothermic and spontaneous in nature. In summary, the nanocomposites of reduced graphene oxide and monoclinic phase of zirconia nanoparticles as an adsorbent were better to the adsorption of the 3-NHPAA.MicroRNAs are a class of endogenous noncoding single-stranded RNA molecules with approximately 20-24 nucleotides and are associated with a broad range of biological processes. Researchers found that microRNAs are abundant in tissues, and more importantly, there are also trace circulating microRNAs that exist in biological fluids. In recent years, circulating microRNAs had emerged as promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for the noninvasive detection of diseases with high specificity and sensitivity. More importantly, specific microRNA expression signatures reflect not only the existence of early-stage diseases but also the dynamic development of advanced-stage diseases, disease prognosis prediction, and drug resistance. To date, an increasing number of potential miRNA biomarkers have been reported, but their practical application prospects are still unclear. Therefore, microRNAs, as potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in a variety of diseases, need to be updated, as they are of great importance in the diagnosis, prognosis and prediction of therapeutic responses. In this review, we summary our current understanding of microRNAs as potential biomarkers in the major diseases (e.g., cancers and cardio-cerebrovascular diseases), which provide the basis for the design of diagnosis and treatment plan and the improvement of the cure rate. The COVID-19 pandemic remains a significant problem involving health systems worldwide. Accurate and early detection of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is critical for minimizing spread and initiating treatment. Among test methods, real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase-chain-reaction (rRT-PCR) is considered the gold standard. Although this test has high specificity and relatively high sensitivity, the occurrence of falsely negative results in symptomatic patients and/or having a positive CT scan remains a challenge. Sources of error can be pre-analytical (sampling, storage and processing), analytical (RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis and amplification) and post-analytical (interpretation and analysis and test reporting). These potential sources of error and efforts to mitigate are reviewed in this article with an emphasis on the analytical phase.
