Maternal pelvic capacity plays a major role during childbirth because the passage of the fetus through the bony birth canal enables vaginal birth. Maternal birthing position may influence pelvic capacity because upright positions optimize capacity, possibly due to free movement of the pelvic joints. Herein, pelvic capacity was assessed by comparing changes in pelvic dimensions across pregnancy and in three birthing positions.
This diagnostic imaging study of 50 pregnant women was conducted at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. Pelvic measurements were obtained with 1.5T magnetic resonance pelvimetry during gestational weeks 20 and 32, in three birthing positions kneeling squat, semi-lithotomy and supine. Pelvic capacity was compared between gestational weeks and positions.
In all three positions there is an overall increase in pelvic capacity from gestational week 20-32 at both the pelvic inlet and outlet. Comparing pelvic capacity at gestational week 32 between the semi-lithotomy and supine positions revealed that the pelvic inlet was larger in the supine position, whereas the mean pelvic outlet was 0.2cm (p<0.001) larger in the semi-lithotomy position. Likewise, the pelvic inlet was larger in the supine than in the kneeling squat position. Shifting from supine to kneeling squat position increased the midplane and pelvic outlet dimensions by up to 1 cm (p<0.001).
The finding herein of an increased pelvic capacity as the pregnancy progresses is novel. Further, the results indicate that the supine position is optimal for increasing pelvic inlet size, whereas the semi-lithotomy and kneeling squat positions are optimal for increasing mid- and outlet-pelvic capacities.

Each section mainly introduces and discusses the preparation methods, advantages and limitations of adsorbents, and their applications to environmental, biological, and food samples. Machine learning (ML) has been increasingly utilized for skin cancer screening, primarily of melanomas but also of non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC).
This study presents the first quantitative review of the success of these techniques in NMSC screening.
A primary literature search was conducted using PubMed, MEDLINE, and arXiv, capturing all articles involving ML techniques and NMSC screening.
52 articles were included for quantitative analysis, resulting in a mean sensitivity of 89.2% (n = 52, 95% confidence interval (CI) 87.0-91.3) and a mean specificity of 81.1% (n = 44, 95% CI 74.5-87.8) for ML algorithms in the diagnosis of NMSC. Studies were further grouped by skin cancer type, algorithm type, diagnostic gold standard, data set source, and data set size.

The purpose of this study was to examine how objective measures of dysphagia in people with Parkinson's disease influenced their caregivers' quality of life. Fifty caregivers (mainly spouses) of people with Parkinson's disease completed a caregiver quality of life survey. Results were compared to medical chart reviews, interviews, and instrumental evaluations of swallowing from the care recipients. Outcomes included caregiver quality of life score, ratings of airway invasion and pharyngeal residue, and Parkinson's disease duration. Descriptive and regression analyses were completed. All caregivers reported reduced quality of life, with 28% having severely disturbed adaptation. Every care recipient with Parkinson's disease demonstrated airway invasion and/or pharyngeal residue. Together, the combination of older care recipient age and longer disease duration was associated with poorer caregiver quality of life [adj. R2 = 0.10-0.12, p = 0.03-0.4]. Neither airway invasion nor pharyngeal residue was related to caregiver quality of life (p > 0.05). Findings confirmed that caregivers of people with Parkinson's disease and dysphagia experience reduced quality of life; however, current methods of assessing caregivers' quality of life may not adequately account for dysphagia-specific burden. Results highlight the urgent need for the development of dysphagia-specific assessments of caregivers' quality of life to facilitate identification of high-risk caregivers and aid the development of support systems to improve health outcomes for caregivers and care recipients.
Objective biomarkers of dietary exposure are needed to establish reliable diet-disease associations. Unfortunately, robust biomarkers of macronutrient intakes are scarce. We aimed to assess the utility of serum, 24-h urine and spot urine high-dimensional metabolites for the development of biomarkers of daily intake of total energy, protein, carbohydrate and fat, and the percent of energy from these macronutrients (%E).
A 2-week controlled feeding study mimicking the participants' habitual diets was conducted among 153 postmenopausal women from the Women's Health Initiative (WHI). Fasting serum metabolomic profiles were analyzed using a targeted liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) assay for aqueous metabolites and a direct-injection-based quantitative lipidomics platform. Urinary metabolites were analyzed using
H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy at 800MHz and by untargeted gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Variable selection was performed to build prediction models for each dietary variable.
The highest cross-validated multiple correlation coefficients (CV-R
) for protein intake (%E) and carbohydrate intake (%E) using metabolites only were 36.3 and 37.1%, respectively. With the addition of established dietary biomarkers (doubly labeled water for energy and urinary nitrogen for protein), the CV-R
reached 55.5% for energy (kcal/d), 52.0 and 45.0% for protein (g/d, %E), 55.9 and 37.0% for carbohydrate (g/d, %E).

Chronic low-grade inflammation is implicated in many of the diseases of ageing. Lifestyle factors, including diet may alter low-grade inflammation. This study aimed to assess cross-sectional associations between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) score and the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP); and determine if any association differs according to age (< 50 vs ≥ 50 years).
DII scores were calculated for respondents of the Australian Health Survey 2011-2012 using data from two 24-h recalls. Serum CRP was measured using ultrasensitive immunoturbidimetric assay. Associations between DII and CRP were assessed using multivariate linear regression adjusting for confounders (age education, physical activity, sex and smoking). Associations were assessed for the whole cohort and stratified at age 50 years.
The analysis included 2558 respondents with a mean BMI of 26.8 kg/m
(< 50 years n = 1099; ≥ 50 years n = 1459). Respondents in the lowest DII quartile (anti-inflammatory diet) reportedly consumed more grains, vegetables and legumes, fruit, milk products, meat, poultry, fish and eggs, unsaturated oils and alcohol compared to respondents in DII quartile 4. No associations were seen between DII and CRP after adjustment for confounders in the whole cohort or when stratified < 50 or ≥ 50 years.
The DII was not associated with CRP in this cross-sectional study. Inflammation is complex characterised by a cascade of the multiple inflammatory markers and understanding the temporal relationship between diet and the inflammatory process is an important area for future research.

AI systems should ensure that the main benefits of biopsy avoidance are delivered while maintaining consistent high specificities, at a range of disease prevalences. Since all current artificial intelligence / computer-aided detection systems for prostate cancer detection are experimental, multiple developmental efforts are still needed to bring the vision to fruition. Initial work needs to focus on developing systems as diagnostic supporting aids so their results can be integrated into the radiologists' workflow including gland and target outlining tasks for fusion biopsies. Developing AI systems as clinical decision-making tools will require greater efforts. The latter encompass larger multicentric, multivendor datasets where the different needs of patients stratified by diagnostic settings, disease prevalence, patient preference, and clinical setting are considered. AI-based, robust, standard operating procedures will increase the confidence of patients and payers, thus enabling the wider adoption of the MRI-directed approach for prostate cancer diagnosis.
