HPMC, being a traditional pharmaceutical excipient, has an irreplaceable role in the development of new pharmaceutical technologies, and new drug products leading to continuous manufacturing processes, and personalized medicine. This review firstly provides information on the physical-chemical properties of HPMC and a comprehensive overview of its application in traditional oral drug formulations. Secondly, this review focuses on the application of HPMC in modern pharmaceutical technologies including spray drying, hot-melt extrusion, 3D printing, nanoprecipitation and electrospinning leading to the formulation of printlets, nanoparticle-, microparticle-, and nanofiber-based delivery systems for oral and oromucosal application. Hypromellose is an excellent excipient for formulation of classical dosage forms and advanced drug delivery systems. New methods of hypromellose processing include spray draying, hot-melt extrusion, 3D printing, and electrospinning.Background The need for protective masks greatly exceeds their global supply during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Methods We optimized the temperature used in the dry heat pasteurization method to destroy pathogens and decontaminate masks while retaining their filtering capacity. Results The current study showed that dry heat at both 60°C and 70°C for 1 hour could successfully kill 6 species of respiratory bacteria and one fungi species, and inactivate the H1N1 indicator virus. After being heated at 70°C for 1, 2, and 3 hours, the N95 respirators and surgical face masks showed no changes in their shape and components. The filtering efficiency of bacterial aerosol for N95 respirators were 98%, 98%, and 97% after being heated for 1, 2, and 3 hour, respectively, all of which were over the 95% efficiency required and similar to the value before being heated (99%). The filtering efficiency for surgical face masks was 97%, 97%, and 96% for 1, 2, and 3 hours of heating, respectively, all of which were also similar to the value before being heated (97%). Conclusions This method can be used at home and can significantly resolve the current shortage of masks.Oncolytic viruses, effectively replicate viruses within malignant cells to lyse them without affecting normal ones, have recently shown great promise in developing therapeutic options for cancer. Adenoviruses (Ads) are one of the candidates in oncolytic virotheraoy due to its easily manipulated genomic DNA and expression of wide rane of its receptors on the various cancers. Although systematic delivery of oncolytic adenoviruses can target both primary and metastatic tumors, there are some drawbacks in the effective systematic delivery of oncolytic adenoviruses, including pre-existing antibodies and liver tropism. To overcome these limitations, intratumural (IT) administration of oncolytic viruses have been proposed. However, IT injection of Ads leaves much of the tumor mass unaffected and Ads are not able to disperse more in the tumor microenvironment (TME). To this end, various strategies have been developed to enhance the IT spread of oncolytic adenoviruses, such as using extracellular matrix degradation enzymes, junction opening peptides, and fusogenic proteins. In the present paper, we reviewed different oncolytic adenoviruses, their application in the clinical trials, and strategies for enhancing their IT spread.T cell lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms derived from mature T lymphocytes. These neoplasms are uncommon and usually diagnostically challenging. The focus of this paper is to suggest an immunohistochemistry-based, practical approach to assist in the diagnosis of nodal T-cell lymphomas. These neoplasms fall into two major groups those with many CD30+ tumor cells (group A) and neoplasms that are negative or show only partial expression of CD30 (group B). The differential diagnosis of group A neoplasms mainly includes ALK+ anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), ALK-negative ALCL, mycosis fungoides with CD30+ large cell transformation, adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma, extranodal T cell lymphomas involving lymph nodes (usually regional) and peripheral T cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS). Group B neoplasms also include two groups based on the presence or absence of T follicular helper (TFH) markers. Those neoplasms expressing at least 2 TFH markers include angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma, nodal PTCL with a TFH phenotype and follicular T-cell lymphoma. Neoplasms expressing ≤1 TFH marker can be further subdivided based on the expression of CD8 and cytotoxic markers and mainly include PTCL-NOS and a series of unusual subsets including primary EBV-positive nodal T or NK/T cell lymphoma, PTCL-NOS with a cytotoxic immunophenotype, and γ/δ T cell lymphomas. The birds were recorded at night flying above the prominent leading line of a marine spit which coincided with the general direction of their migration. Among the large size passerine species, Song Thrushes were identified by a combination of five flight characteristics typical only of this species during particular periods of autumn. The thrushes showed different reactions to the crosswinds complete and partial compensation for the displacement and drift. Under normal visibility, the completeness of compensation depended both on the velocity of the side-wind and altitude. The degree of compensation achieved was reduced with an increase of altitude, regardless of the wind. In this article, preferences of red squirrels in relation to supplemental food, how it is handled, and whether change seasonally, is investigated. A cafeteria test was performed, in which squirrels could choose one from six kind of nuts. Three types of nuts were used walnuts, hazelnuts and peanuts, with unshelled and shelled nuts of each offered. In most cases squirrels took an offered nut. If a nut was not taken, it was mostly due to lack of interest, without signs of fear. Regardless of season, whole, unshelled walnuts were selected most frequently - the most high-energy and least perishable from offered food. The least frequently selected overall were peanuts. Caching behaviour changed seasonally - nuts were mostly eaten in spring and hoarded in autumn and it took less time to cache nuts in autumn and winter. It may reflect optimal caching strategy at the time when food is abundant and there is a desire to secure as big a store of food as possible. Results from the study suggest that supplemental food is an important component of squirrels' diet and have an impact on their caching strategies.Early diagnosis of liver injuries caused by drugs or occupational exposures is necessary to enable effective treatments and prevent liver failure. Whereas histopathology remains the gold standard for assessing hepatotoxicity in animals, plasma aminotransferase levels are the primary measures for monitoring liver dysfunction in humans. In this study, using Sprague Dawley rats, we investigated whether integrated analyses of transcriptomic and metabolomic data with genome-scale metabolic models (GSMs) could identify early indicators of injury and provide new insights into the mechanisms of hepatotoxicity. We obtained concurrent measurements of gene-expression changes in the liver and kidneys, and expression changes along with metabolic profiles in the plasma and urine, from rats 5 or 10 h after exposing them to one of two classical hepatotoxicants, acetaminophen (2 g/kg) or bromobenzene (0.4 g/kg). Global multivariate analyses revealed that gene-expression changes in the liver and metabolic profiles in the plasma and urine of toxicant-treated animals differed from those of controls, even at time points much earlier than changes detected by conventional markers of liver injury. Furthermore, clustering analysis revealed that both the gene-expression changes in the liver and the metabolic profiles in the plasma induced by the two hepatotoxicants were highly correlated, indicating commonalities in the liver toxicity response. Systematic GSM-based analyses yielded metabolites associated with the mechanisms of toxicity and identified several lipid and amino acid metabolism pathways that were activated by both toxicants and those uniquely activated by each. Our findings suggest that several metabolite alterations, which are strongly associated with the mechanisms of toxicity and occur within injury-specific pathways (e.g., of bile acid and fatty acid metabolism), could be targeted and clinically assessed for their potential as early indicators of liver damage.Background The World Health Organization (WHO) attributes the entirety of malaria infection and transmission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to Plasmodium falciparum, one of the several species of malaria known to infect humans. Recent studies have put forth some evidence that transmission of Plasmodium vivax may also be occurring in the DRC. As interventions and treatments differ between malaria species, it is crucial to maintain the most accurate understanding of malaria species diversity in each region. link2 Methods Blood samples were taken from aymptomatic children 0-5 years old living in three regions of the DRC in 2014. For this study, samples were taken from a larger pool of samples, collected as part of a population-based survey in three regions. Plasmodium infection was screened for using nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays and species were confirmed by cloning and DNA sequencing. Results Of 336 samples screened by PCR, 62.2% (n=209) initially tested positive for P. falciparum and 14.6% (n=49) initially tested positive for P. vivax. Sanger sequencing was performed on PCR-positive Plasmodium samples to confirm identity of Plasmodium species. Sequencing showed Plasmodium malariae in one blood sample and Plasmodium ovale in another sample. Plasmodium vivax was detected in 12/65 cases (18.5%). Overall, 14/65 sequenced cases (21.5%) were infected with a non-falciparum malaria. 330bp 18s P. vivax DNA sequences were obtained. Conclusions This study reveals Plasmodium vivax and other non-falciparum malaria across several regions of the DRC, and enforces the importance of further testing and more precise diagnostics when testing for and treating malaria in the DRC. Here, we find a higher proportion of cases of P. vivax malaria than found in previous studies. This is the most robust DNA sequencing of Plasmodium vivax in the DRC to date.Oncomelania hupensis quadrasi is the snail intermediate host of Schistosoma japonicum in the Philippines. It was discovered by Dr. Marcos Tubangui in 1932 more than two decades after the discovery of the disease in the country in 1906. This review, the first for O. h. quadrasi, presents past and present works on the taxonomy, biology, ecology, control, possible paleogeographic origin of the snail intermediate host and future in research, control and surveillance of the snail. link3 Extensive references are made of other subspecies of O. hupensis such as the subspecies in China for which majority of the advances has been accomplished. Contrasting views on whether the snail is to be considered an independent species of Oncomelania or as one of several subspecies of Oncomelania hupensis are presented. Snail control methods such as chemical methods using synthetic and botanical molluscicides, environmental manipulation and biological control are reviewed. Use of technologies such as Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System and landscape genetics is stressed for snail surveillance.
