Bacterial adhesion of Staphylococcus aureus on helicene-graphene films was noticeably lower than that on bare graphene, up to 96.8% reductions in bacterial adhesion. The promising bacterial antifouling characteristics of helicene films was attributed to the unique molecular geometry of helicene, i.e., nano-helix, which can hinder the nanoscale bacterial docking processes on a surface. We envision that helicene-graphene films may eventually be used as protective coatings against bacterial antifouling on the electronic components of clinical and biomedical devices. This paper compares the operation of a decentralized Nash bargaining traffic signal controller (DNB) to the operation of state-of-the-art adaptive and gating traffic signal control. Perimeter control (gating), based on the network fundamental diagram (NFD), was applied on the borders of a protected urban network (PN) to prevent and/or disperse traffic congestion. The operation of gating control and local adaptive controllers was compared to the operation of the developed DNB traffic signal controller. The controllers were implemented and their performance assessed on a grid network in the INTEGRATION microscopic simulation software. The results show that the DNB controller, although not designed to solve perimeter control problems, successfully prevents congestion from building inside the PN and improves the performance of the entire network. Specifically, the DNB controller outperforms both gating and non-gating controllers, with reductions in the average travel time ranging between 21% and 41%, total delay ranging between 40% and 55%, and emission levels/fuel consumption ranging between 12% and 20%. The results demonstrate statistically significant benefits of using the developed DNB controller over other state-of-the-art centralized and decentralized gating/adaptive traffic signal controllers.Coke is the only batch component that does not soften in blast furnace thermal conditions. It is especially important at the temperatures of the cohesive zone forming because coke layers are the only gas-permeable charge. The aim of the work described in this article is the identification of individual coke layers situation in the cohesive zone. Numerical calculations of the cohesive zone situation are based on the horizontal below burden probe measures, however, coke layers are calculated using analytical geometry. The results can be presented as a bitmap; the individual and total area of the coke layers passing gases through the cohesive zone is also calculated. This form of results allows for subjective but quick assessment of the blast furnace operation by its crew.Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) involves the delivery of a highly conformal ablative dose of radiation to both benign and malignant targets. This has traditionally been accomplished in a single fraction; however, fractionated approaches involving five or fewer treatments have been delivered for larger lesions, as well as lesions in close proximity to radiosensitive structures. The clinical utilization of SRS has overwhelmingly involved photon-based sources via dedicated radiosurgery platforms (e.g., Gamma Knife® and Cyberknife®) or specialized linear accelerators. While photon-based methods have been shown to be highly effective, advancements are sought for improved dose precision, treatment duration, and radiobiologic effect, among others, particularly in the setting of repeat irradiation. Particle-based techniques (e.g., protons and carbon ions) may improve many of these shortcomings. Specifically, the presence of a Bragg Peak with particle therapy at target depth allows for marked minimization of distal dose delivery, thus mitigating the risk of toxicity to organs at risk. Carbon ions also exhibit a higher linear energy transfer than photons and protons, allowing for greater relative biological effectiveness. While the data are limited, utilization of proton radiosurgery in the setting of brain metastases has been shown to demonstrate 1-year local control rates >90%, which are comparable to that of photon-based radiosurgery. Prospective studies are needed to further validate the safety and efficacy of this treatment modality. STING inhibitor C-178 concentration We aim to provide a comprehensive overview of clinical evidence in the use of particle therapy-based radiosurgery.Welding between an AuNi9 microwire and Au microlayer is of great importance for fabricating electrical contact structures for high precision inertial devices, satellite slip ring brushes, robots, etc. In this paper, the achievement of parallel micro-gap resistance welding (PMRW) with 200-μm AuNi9 microwires on a 3-μm Au layer was presented. The study on the orthogonal design of the experiment was carried out. The effect of the process parameters (welding current, welding time, and welding pressure) was discussed in reference to the morphologies and tensile force of the joint using range analysis. It is shown that too much or too little heat input will decrease the welding performance. A group of optimized process parameters (0.275 kA welding current, 3 ms welding time, and 28.7 N welding pressure) was obtained. During the welding process, the dynamic resistance of the whole welding system was measured, which can reflect the welding quality. Finite element simulation is utilized to calculate the welding temperature. The highest temperature was located in the center area of the AuNi9 microwire, reaching 1397.2 °C, which is higher than the melting point of AuNi9. By contrast, the highest temperature for the pad was 826.47 °C (lower than the melting point of Au). Hence, under optimized process parameters, a transient interfacial reaction between the liquid AuNi9 microwire and solid Au pad occurred, and the strength of the welded joint reached 5.54 N.
