Within the UK, the majority of paediatric tracheostomy care is delivered by parents and carers at home. To facilitate this, extensive in-hospital training is delivered by a variety of health care professionals. Our goal was to assess carer perceptions of this process and highlight areas in which we can further improve our service and the training for other hospital providers of paediatric tracheostomy care.

A mixed method approach was adopted. In Phase I, qualitative data from five semi-structured interviews with carers of children with a tracheostomy were thematically analysed and subsequently used to develop a questionnaire. In Phase II, the piloted questionnaire was distributed via telephone, email or post to all eligible caregivers who had been tracheostomy trained at GOSH in the last three years (n=92). Qualitative and quantitative data were analysed using thematic analysis and descriptive statistics respectively.

Thirty-five completed questionnaires were received (38% response rate). Overall parti tracheostomy training programme.
Although the evaluation of the service revealed high participant satisfaction in home carer training overall, in-depth analysis of caregivers' experiences indicated common themes in the tracheostomy training service where further support would be beneficial. A carer-centred rather than health professional focus on training needs will allow future attention to be directed to areas of need identified by carers themselves as important to improve the tracheostomy training programme.Resilient performance in socio-technical systems is usually described as stemming from people's self-organization and spur-of-the-moment actions and decisions. However, this is not exclusive with work system design ahead of time, with the deliberate intention of influencing resilient performance. This paper proposes a concept and principles of Design for Resilient Performance (DfRP), making explicit contributions that had been concealed and fragmented in the literature. Based on a literature review of influential human factors studies, 23 design principles were identified and set a basis for a Delphi study with 27 experts from nine countries. After three Delphi rounds, consensus was obtained and the DfRP concept was defined as well as seven design principles, namely (i) there must be functional models of the system; (ii) make variations in performance visible; (iii) use the type of standardization that best fits the nature of the function; (iv) design slack resources and strategies; (v) design for acceptable performance even under degraded conditions; (vi) design must involve leveraging diverse perspectives; and (vii) design to support continuous learning at the individual and organisational level. The applicability of the principles is demonstrated through an exploratory case study of the rapid response team in a hospital. The principles of DfRP are contributions of prescriptive nature, which might give rise to more resilient socio-technical systems.
To determine the state of the literature on assessing heat-stress using physiological parameters. To provide recommendations to the nuclear industry regarding worker heat-stress management practices.

A scoping review identified relevant articles. A search strategy was developed based on a research question concepts. Identified records were screened with inclusion-exclusion criteria. Included articles underwent data extraction using a qualitative data charting method. A thematic analysis and frequency counts were performed.

1687 articles were identified through four databases. The final inclusion consisted of 34 studies. Articles were classified by determinants of heat exposure risks core body temperature (direct and indirect), scoring scale including core body temperature, scoring scale including human perception, and others. Heart rate and rectal temperature were the two most utilized physiological measurements.

A significant amount of literature examined estimation of core temperature using non-invasive methods, sometimes integrated into wearables. Heat-stress management practices could include perceptual measures to better evaluate heat-strain.

The aim of this systematic review (SR) is to establish if video is a beneficial teaching method when teaching psychomotor skills in nursing.

Systematic review.

A database search of CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane was performed with search terms 'video', 'nurse' 'RCT' and 'practical skills' resulting in seventy-four research articles.

All research articles yielded from the searches from the specified databases were scanned while considering the research question, and the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were assessed by two independent reviewers on the title and abstract content initially, papers then considered at this point had the full text studied. Data extraction and table were compiled with headings of interest considering the research question. HS148 A narrative piece was written on the extraction table. Quality appraisal was performed by using RevMan software Version 5.3 to assess the internal validity of all eight studies.

This systematic review supports the use of video as a teaching method when achieving psychomotor skills. Nine different practical clinical skills have been taught throughout the papers and six out of the eight research papers concluded that video is a beneficial teaching method.

Video can be communicated via many modes, including mobile devices, making it very accessible to the user while facilitating guidance at their fingertips while providing current evidence-based care to the patient. This review suggests that making video accessible to the learner, is a positive addition when teaching and learning psychomotor skills.

Currently, Prochloraz® fungicide is used to control anthracnose at postharvest stage which poses threat to consumer safety. Therefore, this study evaluated the effects of high and low molecular weight chitosan on the control of avocado anthracnose and fruit defence mechanism. In curative inoculation, avocados '(Fuerte') were inoculated via the wounds with C. gloeosporioides spore suspension (20 μL, 1 × 106 spores mL-1). Thereafter coated with different concentrations (0.5%, 1% and 1.5%) of low (LMWC) and high molecular weight (HMWC) chitosan and fruits were held at 25 °C for 5 days. The % anthracnose incidence in avocado fruits was recorded on day 5. During preventative inoculation, wounded fruits were dipped in different concentrations of LMWC or HMWC solutions, and subsequently inoculated with C. gloeosporioides suspension. Preventatively inoculated fruits were stored for 28 days at 6.5 °C, 8ve to other chitosan treatments, untreated and Prochloraz® treated fruits. The superior positive zeta potential of LMWC 1.5% coating corroborates its effectiveness in controlling avocado anthracnose than HMWC 1.5%. It is possible that the interaction between the positively charged chitosan amino group (-NH3+) and the negatively charged microbial cell membrane is responsible for the enhanced antifungal activity. In late season naturally infected fruits dipped in 1.5% LMWC, anthracnose incidence dropped to 28% while Prochloraz® treated fruits showed anthracnose incidence of 82% on day 8 at the market shelf. LMWC 1.5% can replace the currently used Prochloraz®.To investigate bone remodelling responses to mandibulectomy, a joint external and internal remodelling algorithm is developed here by incorporating patient-specific longitudinal data. The primary aim of this study is to simulate bone remodelling activity in the conjunction region with a fibula free flap (FFF) reconstruction by correlating with a 28-month clinical follow-up. The secondary goal of this study is to compare the long-term outcomes of different designs of fixation plate with specific screw positioning. The results indicated that the overall bone density decreased over time, except for the Docking Site (namely DS1, a region of interest in mandibular symphysis with the conjunction of the bone union), in which the decrease of bone density ceased later and was followed by bone apposition. A negligible influence on bone remodeling outcome was found for different screw positioning. This study is believed to be the first of its kind for computationally simulating the bone turn-over process after FFF maxillofacial reconstruction by correlating with patient-specific follow-up.Sperm storage tubules (SST) are specialized invaginations of the oviductal epithelium that permit avian species to store spermatozoa for extended periods of time, without compromising sperm fertilization capacity. The molecular and physiological mechanisms behind sperm storage tubule differentiation, sperm protection, and regression remain largely unknown, but most likely have potential implications for substantially improving hen fertility, sperm storage, and semen cryopreservation in commercial poultry species. RNA sequencing was performed on sperm storage tubules isolated from the epithelium of the uterovaginal junction (UVJ) from hens at d 1, 7, 30, 60, and 90 postinsemination (n = 4 per timepoint). Read mapping and differential expression analysis were performed using CLC Genomics Workbench. A total of 2,340 differentially expressed genes were subjected to pathway analysis through Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA). Through functional annotation of differentially expressed genes during early, peak, and late egg production, novel insights regarding the role of innate and acquired immune response to sperm, lipid synthesis and transfer, steroid hormone signalling, cytoskeletal reorganization, and regulation of ion homeostasis in SST were obtained. Additionally, potential pathways were identified that could be involved with suppressing sperm motility while sperm reside within the SST. Upstream analysis identified potential regulatory roles for 18 upstream regulators that could modulate sperm storage tubule function, including suppression of sperm motility. Understanding sperm storage tubule function throughout the laying cycle, especially with regards to sperm preservation may allow for the development of industry-based protocols for semen storage and cryopreservation that mimic the sperm preservation capabilities of SST and improve fertility. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of anhydrous betaine and hydrochloride betaine on growth performance, meat quality, relaxometry, postmortem glycolysis, and antioxidant capacity of partridge shank broiler chickens. A total of 400 one-day-old male broilers were randomly divided into 5 treatments and fed basal diets supplemented with 0 (control), 500 (L-AB) or 1,000 (H-AB) mg/kg anhydrous betaine, and 642.23 (L-HB) or 1,284.46 (H-HB) mg/kg hydrochloride betaine, respectively. Compared with the control group, anhydrous betaine supplementation significantly increased (P less then 0.05) average daily gain and decreased (P less then 0.05) drip loss24h in breast and thigh muscles of broilers. The H-AB group further increased (P less then 0.05) breast muscle yield, pH24h, immobile water proportion (P21), the contents of crude protein and glutathione (GSH), the activities of creatine kinase (CK) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX), the mRNA expressions of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4), protein kinase AMP-activated non-catalytic subunit gamma 3 (PRKAG3), nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) in breast muscle, and a*45min, GLUT4 mRNA expression in thigh muscle, and decreased (P less then 0.
