Behenck, C, Sant'Ana, H, Pinto de Castro, JB, Willardson, JM, and Miranda, H. The effect of different rest intervals between agonist-antagonist paired sets on training performance and efficiency. J Strength Cond Res XX(X) 000-000, 2020-The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of different rest intervals (RIs) between agonist-antagonist paired sets (APS) on training performance and efficiency. Eighteen recreationally trained men (age 21.5 ± 2.1 years, body mass 74.5 ± 10.4 kg, height 1.75 ± 0.04 m, body mass index 24.4 ± 3.7 kg·m) completed 4 sessions. During each session, a 10-repetition maximum load was used for 3 APS of Bench Row + Bench Press and Lat Pull-down + Overhead Press with RI between APS sequences of 1, 2, 3 minutes (min) or self-selected RI (SRI). Total training volume (TTV), session time and efficiency were measured in all sessions. The 1 minute resulted in significantly less TTV vs. the other conditions (p = 0.000). The 2 minutes resulted in significantly less TTV vs. the 3 minutes (p = 0.002), but the SRI was not significantly different vs. the 3 minutes. For session time, the 1 minute was significantly less (p = 0.000) and the 3 minutes was significantly greater (1 and 2 minutes, p = 0.000; SRI, p = 0.010) than the other conditions. Therefore, the efficiency of the 1 minute was significantly greater vs. the other conditions (3 minutes and SRI, p = 0.000; 2 minutes, p = 0.001) and the 2 minutes was significantly greater vs. the 3 minutes (p = 0.001). There were no significant differences in TTV, session time, and efficiency between the 2 minutes and SRI conditions. In conclusion, the 2 RI and SRI conditions may present a better cost-effectiveness. It is suggested that self-selected RI can provide better performance, whereas 2-minute RI may enable greater efficiency.Stern, D, Gonzalo-Skok, O, Loturco, I, Turner, A, and Bishop, C. Batimastat datasheet A comparison of bilateral vs. unilateral-biased strength and power training interventions on measures of physical performance in elite youth soccer players. J Strength Cond Res XX(X) 000-000, 2020-The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of bilateral and unilateral-biased strength and power training programs on measures of physical performance in male youth soccer players. Twenty-three elite youth players (age 17.6 ± 1.2 years) were randomly assigned to either a unilateral (n = 11) or a bilateral (n = 12) group, who completed a strength and power intervention, twice per week for 6 weeks. The unilateral group completed rear foot elevated split squats (RFESS), single-leg countermovement jumps (SLCMJs), single-leg drop jumps (SLDJs), and single-leg broad jumps (SLBJs). The bilateral group intervention performed back squats, CMJs, drop jumps (DJ), and broad jumps (BJ). A 2 × 2 repeated measures analysis of variance showed no between-gl training showing greater improvements in unilateral test measures.Jean, LMY and Chiu, LZF. Elevating the noninvolved limb reduces knee extensor asymmetry during squat exercise in persons with reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament. J Strength Cond Res XX(X) 000-000, 2020-Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-injured individuals use less knee extensor net joint moment (NJM) in the involved vs. noninvolved limb during squat exercises. The objective of this research was to examine if knee extensor NJM symmetry between the involved and noninvolved limbs could be attained with a modified squat. Six individuals with unilateral ACL reconstructed knees performed bilateral squats under normal conditions and with their noninvolved limb elevated on a 5-cm platform. Knee extensor NJM was determined using 3-dimensional motion analysis. Knee extensor NJM was lower in the involved compared with the noninvolved limb (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.08-0.28 N·m·kg; d = 1.66 SD) during normal squats. Knee extensor NJM was greater in the involved (95% CI, 0.02-0.18 N·m·kg; d = 0.57 SD) and lower in the noninvolved (95% CI, -0.25 to -0.07 N·m·kg; d = 1.85 SD) limbs in the elevated vs. normal squats. Knee extensor NJM was not different between limbs when the noninvolved limb was elevated (95% CI, -0.26 to 0.11 N·m·kg; d = 0.48 SD). Persons with ACL reconstruction exhibit knee extensor asymmetry during bilateral squats. Elevating the noninvolved limb reduces knee extensor NJM asymmetry between the involved and noninvolved limbs during squat exercise.Background/objectives Chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is an inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent attacks and remissions due to sterile bone inflammation. The CNO may be accompanied by various inflammatory diseases. The aims of our study were to determine the clinical, laboratory, and radiological characteristics of children with CNO, and to investigate the possible effect of concomitant diseases on the course of CNO. Methods Twenty-three patients who were diagnosed with CNO between 2012 and 2019 were analyzed. Demographic characteristics, clinical courses, laboratory and imaging findings, and concomitant diseases were recorded. The characteristics of the CNO patients with and without concomitant diseases were compared. Results The mean ± SD age of patients at the time of diagnosis and the last follow-up was 10.46 ± 4.1 and 12.47 ± 4.47 years, respectively. The median (range) time interval between disease onset and diagnosis was 5.33 (1-55) months. The mean ± SD duration of disease was 24.7 may result due to an abnormality of a common pathogenetic pathway. Background The syphilis epidemic continues to cause substantial morbidity worldwide and is worsening despite ongoing control efforts. Syphilis remains an important public health problem among three key populations men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender women, and female sex workers. Methods We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients that received rapid point-of-care treponemal antibody tests from January 2019-July 2019 in four STI clinics in Lima, Peru. We assessed patient medical records for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, past history of sexually transmitted infections, as well as sociodemographic and behavioral characteristics. Cross-sectional descriptive analyses were used to determine factors associated with treponemal positivity. Results We included 401 patient records in our analyses 252 MSM, 31 transgender women, and 118 female sex workers. The overall median age of patients was 29.0 years old (interquartile range 24.0, 36.0). Positivity on the treponemal test was 28.9% (95% confidence interval (CI) 24.
