Specifically, it was found that because the hydroxyl groups in 1,3-propanediol are located at both ends of the carbon chain, the reticular bridge bond structure formed between the collagen molecules changed into chain-like bridge structure. The bridge bonds between collagen molecules were considered to be weak cross-linking, which was an important reason for the destruction of collagen structure. In this study, the mechanism of interaction between different alcohols and collagen was elucidated, which will be helpful for further development of complex alcohol and collagen products.Polymeric particles with non-spherical shape or coarse surface have distinct advantages for drug delivery, tissue regeneration and immunomodulation respectively, but it is not easy to control polymeric microparticles in required geometry and surface texture simultaneously. In this study, polymeric non-spherical microparticles with coarse surface were successfully prepared by double emulsion-solvent evaporation technique in the presence of ammonium bicarbonate and the formation mechanism was proposed. In addition, simvastatin was encapsulated in poly[lactic-co-(glycolic acid)] (PLGA) non-spherical microparticles with coarse surface by the same technique and the release kinetics in vitro was fitted as well, which not only enrich the encapsulation techniques of liposoluble drugs in polymeric non-spherical carriers but also envision the potential application for alveolar ridge preservation with local delivery of simvastatin.Growing evidence has shown that exposure to harsh parenting and child maltreatment elevate the risk of Internet addiction in adolescence. Yet, limited research has examined the mechanisms underlying this association. The present study was a cross-sectional school survey of 1204 adolescents (52.2 % male and 47.8 % female; mean age, 13.36 years) in Hong Kong. The adolescents completed a self-reported questionnaire about their exposure to bullying victimization, bullying perpetration, child maltreatment, Internet addiction, and social support. The findings showed that harsh parenting and maltreatment was significantly associated with Internet addiction. After controlling for a number of confounding factors, the results of the mediation analyses showed that family support and bullying perpetration, and family support and bullying victimization accounted for 36 % and 25 % of the effect of harsh discipline and maltreatment on Internet addiction, respectively. Effective prevention and intervention strategies for Internet addiction should target family and social vulnerabilities in adolescents.Few studies have focus on size-segregated particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the oceanic atmosphere. To better understand the impacts of anthropogenic activities on atmospheric PAHs, a heavily human-impacted estuary, the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), was chosen as a case study. We collected gaseous and size-segregated particulate samples of ambient air at two sites in the PRE, as well as from the exhaust emissions of the cruise ship used in the sampling campaign. In addition, surface seawater samples were collected. Size distribution patterns of high molecular-weight (HMW) particulate PAHs were bimodal at one site and unimodal at the other, suggesting PAHs at the former site were derived not only from long-range atmospheric transport but also from local sources. Gas-particle partition coefficients of HMW PAHs in size-segregated particles varied with particle sizes, mostly higher in fine particles (1.8 μm), and HMW PAHs with lower dry deposition velocities could be transported farther away. With respect to air-water exchange, lower MW PAHs tended to have net volatilization, whereas higher MW PAHs were likely to have net deposition. MIK665 nmr This study sheds new lights on the origins and fate of atmospheric PAHs over the PRE, and suggests the emissions of maritime traffics should be regulated. Collected near the metropolitan regions, atmospheric PAHs over the PRE were highly affected by anthropogenic activities, especially for HMW PAHs, which could pose a long-lasting impact to the oceanic atmosphere and marine organisms.Vegetation productivity dynamics are closely related to climate change, and water availability determines vegetation growth in water-limited ecosystems. Nevertheless, how changes in the interactions between climatic factors and vegetation activity variation regulate the relationship between their trends remains unclear. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is an effective proxy of vegetation growth. First, we investigated the NDVI trends, and the results revealed a vegetation activity with weaker greening and greater spatial heterogeneity after an obvious land-cover breakpoint in 1999 compared with that before 1999 in northwest China. Notably, the Loess Plateau greatly led the greenness trends, but the Tibet Plateau showed mean browning after 1999, which implied that the coupling of climate change and vegetation trends varied with spatio-temporal changes. Subsequently, using the Geographical Detector Method (GDM), we quantified and compared the association between climate change and the interannual variability of NDVI in the two stages. Vegetation productivity variation is more closely related to changes in climatic factors after 1999 compared with that before 1999. Precipitation (PPT) and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) are the primary constraints to vegetation growth in both stages. Patterns in NDVI trend increases are consistent with those of increased PPT and decreased VPD and vice versa after 1999. However, the same patterns were not observed before 1999 because of the weak association between climate change and NDVI variation. This implicated a great significance of the association between climate change and changes in vegetation activity for the prediction of potential carbon sequestration due to the shift of dominant factors and their trends under future climate change. This study aims to relate bacterial dynamics to gaseous emissions during the composting of kitchen and garden wastes. High-throughput sequencing and Functional Annotation of Prokaryotic Taxa (FAPROTAX) were used to analyse the bacterial community and potential functions during composting, respectively. Results show that the addition of garden waste up to 15% of the total wet weight of composting materials notably mitigated gaseous emissions and improved maturity during kitchen waste composting. Ammonium nitrogen, temperature, oxygen content, and electrical conductivity were identified as critical factors to impact gaseous emissions. The bacterial community analysis indicated that the proliferation of anaerobes during the storage of kitchen waste induced the dramatic emission of methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) at the beginning of composting. Adding garden waste could effectively amend the physiochemical properties of composting materials to reduce the relative abundance of microbes (e.g. Desulfotomaculum and Caldicoprobacter) that contributed to gaseous emissions, but enrich those (e.
