The use of social media that facilitates access to surgical training is increasing among general practitioners/surgeons. The present study aimed to evaluate the educational quality of videos on social media and the medical education websites in terms of trabeculectomy surgery.

In this cross-sectional and register-based study, the term "trabeculectomy" has been searched on 22 websites containing medical surgery training videos. Demographical features and descriptive statistics of videos are noted. All videos were evaluated independently by two ophthalmologists according to DISCERN, Journal of American Medical Association, and Global Quality scoring system. The main 11 steps of trabeculectomy surgery were taken into consideration in each video and Video Quality Score was determined based on these steps.

In total, 731 videos were watched and 634 were excluded and 97 videos were included in the study. The total quality of all videos according to DISCERN, JAMA, GQS, and VQS scores were 31.6±9.1 (poor quality), 1.3±0.4 (poor quality), 2.6±0.9 (fair quality), and 6.9±2.1 (poor quality) respectively. Only 6 of the 97 evaluated videos included all the steps of trabeculectomy surgery. Videos have longer duration, videos with narration or videos with descriptive subtitles were found to be significantly higher quality than those are not.

The primary objective of this study was to measure the change in physician efficiency score after implementation of the refill and prior authorization pilot program (RPAPP). Secondary objectives included changes in physician and staff perception of workload, changes in Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Star Measures, and program productivity.

This was a retrospective cohort study comparing patient and physician data 12 months before and after RPAPP implementation at an academic medical center. Physician efficiency was an average of 5 metrics that measure performance utilizing the electronic health record. Physician and staff perceptions were measured at baseline and 12 months via a pre- and postsurvey. Changes in CMS Star Measures were captured usingency and satisfaction. These results may assist other health care institutions interested in initiating an RPAPP.
Exaggerated neutrophil-dominated inflammation underlies progressive cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. Older studies reported a defective respiratory burst in CF, but more recent studies suggest neutrophil function is normal.

We measured the amount and rate of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during PMA-stimulated respiratory burst activity in children [70 CF, 13 disease controls, 19 health controls] and adults [31 CF, 14 health controls] in neutrophils harvested from peripheral blood. Blood was collected from participants with CF when clinically stable (60 children, 9 adults) and on hospital admission (38 children, 24 adults) and discharge (18 children, 21 adults) for acute pulmonary exacerbations.

When clinically stable, children with CF had lower ROS production [median 318,633, 25% 136,810 - 75% 569,523 RLU] than disease controls [median 599,459, 25% 425,566 - 75% 730,527 RLU] and healthy controls [median 534,073, 25% 334,057 - 75% 738,593 RLU] (p=0.008). The rate of ROS production was also lower (p=0.029). In neither children nor adults with CF did ROS production increase on hospital admission for acute pulmonary exacerbation, nor fall prior to discharge. There were no associations between ROS production and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (indicating systemic inflammation) in either children or adults with CF.

Mucosal healing, the result of endoscopic remission, is associated with prolonged clinical remission and delayed deterioration of Crohn's disease, which is significant and accompanied by reduced hospitalizations and surgeries. Currently, the relationship between ultrasonic parameters and mucosal healing remains controversial. To establish an ultrasonic regression model to evaluate mucosal healing, we conducted this preliminary study using multiple parameters from B-mode ultrasonography, colour Doppler flow imaging and shear wave elastography systematically.

This study consisted of two single-centre investigations based on development and validation populations who received endoscopies (as the gold standard) and ultrasound. The involved bowel segments were divided into mucosal healing (MH) and nonmucosal healing (NMH) groups according to endoscopic results. Eight ultrasonic parameters were observed, including bowel wall thickness (BWT), mesenteric fat thickness (MFT), median modulus of elasticity (Emean), average shear wave velocity (SWV), Limberg scoring (LG), bowel wall stratification (BWS), ascites (AS) and lymph node enlargement (LN). We developed an ultrasonic regression model in the development phase to evaluate segmental mucosal healing and undertook prospective validation of this model.

A total of 124 patients with 380 involved bowel segments from the development and validation cohorts were evaluated. Eight ultrasonic parameters were significantly different between the two groups (P<0.05) in the development phase. Four significant parameters with better AUC performance were selected to establish an ultrasonic regression model to predict mucosal healing. The AUCs of this ultrasonic model were 0.975 and 0.942 in the development and validation cohorts, respectively.

We reviewed the literature using the key words surgical masks, power hoods, FFP3 masks and surgical site infection. Most studies showed no reduction in the incidence of SSI with surgical masks5, but some showed an increase6. There were no studies comparing bacterial contamination of the surgical site with different types of masks.
