Interventions aimed at changing knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of resident physicians and medical students have been made to incite a significant positive increase in attitudes, comfort, and knowledge toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, as well as increased levels of competency among participants.

To use insights from the attitudes of medical students toward transgender people and demonstrate that adding lectures on transgenderism would make the medical school curricula more comprehensive and trans-inclusive by improving overall attitudes toward the LGBT community.

A total of 49 medical students completed the preintervention survey with the Genderism and Transphobia Scale and Attitudes Toward Transgendered Individuals Scale, and then took a class on transgenderism, whereas 39 individuals completed the 4-week postintervention survey following the same measures.

ASF has been present in Latvia since 2014. GSK963 Hunters play a major role in the implementation of measures to control ASF and in passive disease surveillance. The probability to detect an ASF-positive wild boar is much higher in animals found dead than in hunted animals. Thus, the willingness and the motivation of hunters to support passive surveillance is of utmost importance. Using participatory methods, this study aimed to assess the acceptability of control measures for ASF in wild boar among hunters. In addition, new approaches to increase hunters' motivation to report wild boar found dead were investigated. A total of ten focus group discussions with hunters from different regions in Latvia were conducted. To assess the quantity and quality of contacts between hunters and stakeholders involved in the control of ASF, relation diagrams were used. Using ranking tools, the trust of the participants in stakeholdperiences of hunters. To better understand Map transmission in Irish dairy herds, we adapted the French stochastic individual-based epidemiological simulation model to account for seasonal herd demographics. We investigated the probability of Map persistence over time, the within-herd prevalence over time, and the relative importance of transmission pathways, and assessed the relative effectiveness of test-and-cull control strategies. We investigated the impact on model outputs of calf separation from cows (calves grazed on pasture adjacent to cows vs. were completely separated from cows) and test-and-cull. Test-and-cull scenarios consisted of highly test-positive cows culled within 13 or 4 weeks after detection, and calf born to highly test-positive cows kept vs removed. We simulated a typical Irish dairy herd with on average 82 lactating cows, 112 animals in total. Each scenario was iterattest-positive result, and 28 % lower when culled within 4 weeks. Around calving, the infection rate was high, with calves being infected in utero or via the general indoor environment (most important transmission routes). For the remainder of the year, the incidence rate was relatively low with most calves being infected on pasture when in contact with cows. Testing and culling was an effective control strategy when it was used prior to the calving period to minimize the number of highly infectious cows present when calves were born.Adipose tissue is recognized as a fundamental endocrine organ. The aim of this work was to verify whether orexin B, crucial mediator of the energy balance, modifies the differentiation of cultured ASCs. We used the pig as a model. Our data demonstrate that swine ASCs express prepro-orexin. Orexin B treatment inhibits ASCs proliferation (P less then 0.05) and adipogenic differentiation (P less then 0.05). Data collected could be interesting both in animal production field because consumers require lean meat, and in human medicine study about obesity because pig can be considered a valuable animal model for translational studies.This study examined the long-term language outcomes of adolescents in the complex multilingual context of Iceland, where children learn Icelandic as a first (L1) or second language (L2), in a background of incidental English from internet and media sources.
50 adolescents enrolled in grades 8, 9 and 10 in Reykjavik (Iceland) public schools (27 L1 speakers and 23 L2 speakers) participated. Standardized language tests and language samples were collected in Icelandic and English. Self-ratings and parent ratings of language proficiency were obtained in Icelandic, English and, for L2 speakers, in the home language as well.

As in previous studies, L2 speakers scored far below L1 speakers on formal tests of Icelandic, and also in conversation. The groups were similar in their English skills, with both groups scoring far below L1 English norms. Self-rated performance agreed well with measured performance. For the L2 speakers, self-rated performance in the home language was similar to performance in Icelandic and English.
