The aim was to conduct the cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Brazilian Portuguese version of the ICIQ-OABqol (ICIQ-OABqol_portuguese) in individuals with OAB symptoms. METHODS An observational cross-sectional study was performed at the Clinical Physiotherapy of PUC MINAS in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, between March 2017 and October 2018. The translation was previously carried out by the Mapi Research Institute. After receiving the translated questionnaire, the cross-cultural adaptation process was conducted as follows (1) review by an expert committee (13 experts); (2) pre-test (n = 30); (3) cross-cultural adaptation; (4) validation of the ICIQ-OABqol_portuguese. We analyzed the intraexaminer reliability validation (n = 118) and internal consistency measurement (Cronbach's α coefficient), test-retest reliability (ICC) and correlation between the ICIQ-OAB and ICIQ-OABqol_portuguese questionnaires through Pearson's correlation coefficient and Bland-Altman scatter plot and concordance. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to confirm the domains of the instrument. RESULTS The ICIQ-OABqol was cross-culturally adapted to Brazilian Portuguese and presented satisfactory internal consistency (α-Cronbach coefficient 0.88), adequate construct validity, strong reliability considering the test-retest with an interval of 19.68 (±6.98) days and moderate correlation with the ICIQ-OAB. CONCLUSIONS The Brazilian Portuguese version of the ICIQ-OABqol shows satisfactory psychometric properties and can be used to evaluate the quality of life of individuals of both sexes with OAB symptoms.INTRODUCTION In our ageing population, there are increasing numbers of elderly cyclists and motorcyclists. Compared to younger riders, this cohort sustains more injuries and has poorer outcomes. The aim of this study was to describe and compare patient demographics, injury patterns and outcomes among elderly cyclists and motorcyclists presenting to a Level 1 trauma centre. METHODS Data of all cyclists, motorcyclists and pillion riders aged 65 years and above, who presented to the emergency department after accidents from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2017 were extracted from the hospital's trauma registry and reviewed. RESULTS Cyclists and motorcyclists formed 42.0% and 58.0%, respectively, of 157 recruited patients. At the time of incident, 40.8% of patients were employed. Mean age of patients was 71.6 ± 5.8 years. Extremities and pelvic girdle injuries (61.1%) were the most frequent, followed by chest injuries (48.4%), and head and neck injuries (40.1%). For severe injuries (defined as Abbreviated Injury Scale score ≥ 3), chest injuries (39.5%) were the most common, followed by head and neck injuries (36.3%). Overall mortality rate was 9.6%, with cyclists at nearly three times the risk of motorcyclists. More cyclists than motorcyclists (18.2% vs. 11.0%) required intensive care. There were no significant differences in length of hospital stay. CONCLUSION Elderly riders have unique injury patterns and consume significant healthcare resources. Trauma systems need to acknowledge this changing injury epidemiology and equip trauma centres with necessary resources targeted at elderly patients. Future work should focus on strategies to minimise extremity and chest injuries.INTRODUCTION Injury is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity. We aimed to investigate which areas in Singapore have a significantly higher incidence of road traffic accidents (RTA) resulting in severe injuries (Tier 1), which is defined as an Injury Severity Score (ISS) greater than 15, and to develop a spatiotemporal model. METHODS Data was obtained from the National Trauma Registry. The RTA locations were geo-mapped onto the Singapore map, and spatial statistical techniques were used to identify hotspots with the Getis-Ord-Gi* algorithm. RESULTS From 1 January 2013 till 31 December 2014, there were 35,673 people who were injured as a result of RTAs and 976 Tier 1 RTA victims. A total of 920 people were included in the geospatial analysis. Another 56 were involved in RTAs that did not occur within Singapore or had missing location data and thus were not included. 745 (81.0%) were discharged alive, whereas 175 (19.0%) did not survive to discharge (median ISS 38.00, interquartile range 30.00-48.00).
