How to Get the Best Results From a Drying Tree
The process of drying timber is a necessary and important step in the transformation of a tree into lumber. Unfortunately, it's also a very complex and time consuming one. Some loggers and sawmills speed this process up by placing freshly cut logs into "kilns" which are basically long plastic covered shelters with massive heated fans blowing into them. This is done to reduce the amount of time it takes for wood to reach equilibrium in moisture content with the surrounding air (Walker et al., 1993). It also helps to eliminate many of the defects associated with drying - particularly warping and crooking.

However, there are many things that can go wrong during the drying of a tree and the quality of the finished lumber can suffer as a result. To get the best results out of a freshly cut, correctly split piece of wood you should dry it quickly, in a controlled space, and with an accurate moisture meter.

In general, wood will dry from the outside in to the centre, shedding water as it does so (Walker et al., 1996), until it attains equilibrium in moisture content with the surrounding air. giàn phơi thông minh is a natural phenomenon known as shrinkage anisotropy.

Water in the cell walls of wood normally moves by bulk flow (momentum transfer) for permeable softwoods and by diffusion for impermeable hardwoods. This explains why lighter, more porous timbers dry faster than heavier and denser woods.

Other factors that impact the drying of a tree include the weather, temperature and humidity. In general, it's best to try to dry timber in a temperature range of 50-60°F with relatively low humidity. In hot weather, it can be helpful to place the timber under a shade tree to help minimise heat loss.

Some people may think leaving the leaves on a freshly cut tree will draw some of the moisture out of the wood. However, this is a very inefficient method as most of the water in wood is actually located between the bark and the actual wood. Leaving the bark on can also be detrimental as it can cause the wood to shrink unevenly which can lead to defects such as cupping, bowing and twisting.

giàn phơi quần áo thông minh nha trang to get the wood split and stacked ASAP and to store it in a protected, well ventilated area with good access to sunlight. It's also a good idea to choose a spot that's sheltered from winds that can carry debris and moisture into the timber, as well as being away from low damp areas and boggy soil. Ideally, you'll want to use non-chlorinated water if possible so that the feeder roots and larger root system of the tree are adequately hydrated as they dry. This will minimise the risk of rot and insect infestation. For this reason, it's recommended that you use a drip hose to irrigate the tree.
