In Asia, rice straw is an abundant agricultural surplus because rice is one of the leading staple food crops in the region. Often, rice straw is burned directly in the field via uncontrolled combustion methods that emit large amounts of short-lived air pollutants, greenhouse gases, and other pollutants. In Vietnam, the energy and environment protection sectors are facing great challenges because of rapid urbanisation and industrialisation. A national strategic choice is to exploit renewable energy, including biomass-derived energy, to achieve energy security and CO2 emission reduction. This study investigates the potential of rice straw as an energy source for power plants at a local scale in Vietnam using data derived from satellite Sentinel-1 images. The results show that Vietnam can produce 2,565 MW from rice straw, for which 24 out of 63 provinces have a potential capacity higher than 30 MW, and the Kien Giang province has the highest capacity (245 MW). The study also analyses limitations and obstacles overcoming which can promote the biomass energy sector in the country.An ultrahigh capacity supercapacitor is fabricated using a nano-layered MXene as an active electrode material, and Ni-foil is used as a current collector. The high-quality Ti3C2Tx obtained from supernatant during etching and washing processes improves the specific capacitance significantly. As another strategy, the surface of Ni-foil is engineered by coating chemical vapor deposition-grown graphene. The graphene grown directly on the Ni-foil is used as a current collector, forming the electrode structure of Ti3C2Tx/graphene/Ni. We compared PWR and autonomic modulation after acute aerobic (AE), resistance (RE), and concurrent exercise (CE) in 15 men with stage-1 hypertension (mean ± SE 34.7 ± 2.5 years, 28.4 ± 0.6 kg/m2, 133 ± 1/82 ± 2 mmHg). Participants underwent AE, RE, and CE on different days in counterbalanced order. link3 Applanation tonometry and heart rate variability assessments were performed before and 30-min postexercise. Aortic pressure decreased after AE (- 2.4 ± 0.7 mmHg; P = 0.01), RE (- 2.2 ± 0.6 mmHg; P = 0.03), and CE (- 3.1 ± 0.5 mmHg; P = 0.003). Augmentation index remained stable after RE, but lowered after AE (- 5.1 ± 1.7%; P = 0.03) and CE (- 7.6 ± 2.4% P = 0.002). Systolic BP reduction occurred after CE (- 5.3 ± 1.9 mmHg). RR-intervals and parasympathetic modulation lowered after all conditions (~ 30-40%; P  less then  0.05), while the sympathovagal balance increased after RE (1.2 ± 0.3-1.3 ± 0.3 n.u., P  less then  0.05). Changes in PWR correlated inversely with sympathetic and directly with vagal modulation in CE. In conclusion, AE, RE, and CE lowered central aortic pressure, but only AE and CE reduced PWR. Box-Behnken design (BBD) was used to evaluate the effects of carbon to nitrogen ratio (C/N), sodium chloride concentration and inoculum size on P. temperata biomass production and insecticidal activity. For an enhanced biopesticide production, the optimum operating conditions were as follows inoculum size = 4%; C/N ratio = 12.5 and [NaCl] = 4 g/L for two responses. 1.95 and 2.75 fold improvements in oral toxicity and biomass production were respectively obtained in the cost-effective medium developed in this study (WS4 I) using the three variables at their optimal values. Under the optimized conditions, WS4 I-grown cells exhibited higher membrane integrity according to flow cytometry analysis since dead cells presented only 9.2% compared to 29.2% in WS4. From batch fermentations carried out in WS4 I and WS4, P. temperata kinetic parameters in terms of biomass production and substrate consumption rates were modeled. The obtained results showed that the maximum specific growth rate in WS4 I was of 0.43 h-1 while that obtained in WS4 was of 0.14 h-1. In addition, the efficiency of P. temperata to metabolize organic carbon was enhanced by optimizing the culture conditions. It reached 72.66% instead of 46.18% in the control fermentation after 10 h of incubation. Under the optimized conditions, P. temperata cells showed the highest specific consumption rate resulting in a toxin synthesis improvement.Rapid urbanization has a great impact on avian distribution, ecology, habitat selection, and behavior. Recent avian studies indicated that individuals remain consistent in their behavioral responses to human disturbance across short periods of time. However, there is still little information about keeping consistent behaviors in distinct locations across different stages of the annual cycle. In this study, we aimed to test for long-term consistency in habitat selection with respect to urbanization in a migratory waterbird species, the Eurasian coot Fulica atra. For this purpose, we individually marked ca. 300 coots from four populations that varied in urbanization level and tracked their habitat preferences during the non-breeding season. We found that individuals from urban breeding populations selected habitats with a higher share of artificial areas during the non-breeding season, when compared to non-urban individuals. Also, a comparison of non-breeding sites selected by birds from our study populations with random sites showed that urban birds selected sites with higher urbanization level than resulting from random availability. Finally, we found a seasonal variation in habitat preferences in coots-individuals from all study populations selected more urbanized areas as the non-breeding season progressed. The results indicate that birds are able to remain consistent in habitat preferences not only at a large geographical scale, but also across different seasons. link2 Marked between-population variation in habitat selection across the annual cycle may reflect personality differences of coots from urban and non-urban populations, and it stays in line with the personality-matching habitat choice hypothesis.Knowledge of temperature-induced changes of skin optical properties is required for accurate dosimetry of photothermal treatments. We determined and compared in vivo optical properties of mouse ear skin at different temperatures. The diffuse reflectance, total and diffuse transmittance were measured in the spectral range from 400 to 1650 nm using an integrating sphere spectrometer at the temperatures of 25 °C, 36 °C and 60 °C. Target temperatures were attained and maintained using an automated heater equipped with a sensor for feed-back and control. Temperature and temperature induced morphological changes of skin were monitored using an infrared thermal camera and reflectance confocal microscopy, respectively. An inverse Monte Carlo technique was utilized to determine absorption, scattering, and anisotropy factors from the measured quantities. Our results indicate significant differences between the optical properties of skin at different temperatures. Absorption and scattering coefficients increased, whereas anisotropy factors decreased with increasing temperature. Changes in absorption coefficients indicate deoxygenation of hemoglobin, and a blue shift of water absorption bands. Confocal imaging confirmed that our observations can be explained by temperature induced protein denaturation and blood coagulation. Monitoring spectral responses of treated tissue may become a valuable tool for accurate dosimetry of light treatments.The DNA replication influences the inheritance of genetic information in the DNA life cycle. link3 As the distribution of replication origins (ORIs) is the major determinant to precisely regulate the replication process, the correct identification of ORIs is significant in giving an insightful understanding of DNA replication mechanisms and the regulatory mechanisms of genetic expressions. For eukaryotes in particular, multiple ORIs exist in each of their gene sequences to complete the replication in a reasonable period of time. To simplify the identification process of eukaryote's ORIs, most of existing methods are developed by traditional machine learning algorithms, and target to the gene sequences with a fixed length. Consequently, the identification results are not satisfying, i.e. there is still great room for improvement. To break through the limitations in previous studies, this paper develops sequence segmentation methods, and employs the word embedding technique, 'Word2vec', to convert gene sequences into word vectors, thereby grasping the inner correlations of gene sequences with different lengths.
