Tor-dependent post-transcriptional unsafe effects of autophagy: Significance pertaining to cancer therapeutics.
-EEG and psychiatric assessment, and most EMUs use an electronic database to allow extraction of patients developing PNES.
Postoperative PNES is an underestimated and not well-studied entity. This is a European survey to assess the type of data that the EMUs surgical cohorts could provide to retrospectively detect postoperative PNES. In cases with suspected PNES, most EMUs perform video-EEG and psychiatric assessment, and most EMUs use an electronic database to allow extraction of patients developing PNES.
Resting-state (rs) network dysfunction is a contributing factor to treatment resistance in epilepsy. In treatment-resistant epilepsy (TRE), pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies have been shown to improve such dysfunction. In this study, our goal was to prospectively evaluate the effect of highly purified plant-derived cannabidiol (CBD; Epidiolex®) on rs functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) functional connectivity (rs-FC). We hypothesized that CBD would change and potentially normalize the rs-FC in TRE.

Twenty-two of 27 participants with TRE completed all study procedures including longitudinal pre-/on-CBD rs-fMRI (8M/14F, mean age = 36.2 ± 15.9 years, TRE duration = 18.3 ± 12.6 years); there were no differences in age (p = 0.99) or sex (p = 0.15) between groups. Assessments collected included seizure frequency (SF), Chalfont Seizure Severity Scale (CSSS), Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), Adverse Events Profile (AEP), and Profile of Mood States (POMS). Twenty-three healtntially normalizes rs-FC in the epileptic brain. This effect may underlie its efficacy. This study provides Class III evidence for CBD's normalizing effect on rs-FC in TRE.
Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is a common subtype of genetic generalized epilepsy (GGE) arising in adolescence and is often associated with executive function (EF) deficits. Some EF components like response inhibition have been extensively evaluated in JME, but few studies have focused upon trait impulsivity or compared between GGE subtypes. The aim of the present study was to compare the association of trait impulsivity in JME with other GGE subtypes.

Patients with GGE aged between 14 and 40 years (n = 137) were divided into those with JME (n = 92) and those with other GGEs (n = 45 8 childhood absence epilepsy (CAE), 22 juvenile absence epilepsy (JAE), and 15 epilepsy with generalized tonic-clonic seizures only (EGTCS)). The study participants were recruited through medical records of the general population of Buskerud County and the neighboring municipalities, covering 477,000 people or 9.1% of Norway's total population. All participants underwent a clinical interview including the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS), an established measure of trait impulsivity. We controlled for other potential predictors of BIS score using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA).

There were no differences between JME and other types of GGE for BIS scores, but the presence of myoclonic seizures within the last year, irrespective of GGE subtype, was independently associated with significantly increased behavioral impulsivity.

This study demonstrates that trait impulsivity in GGE is most strongly related to the recent occurrence of myoclonic seizures rather than GGE subtype.

PI3K activator In the current context of climate change, it is critical to understand how temperature impacts traits that could affect fitness. In Phyllotis xanthopygus, a small altricial rodent inhabiting an altitudinal gradient in the Andes Mountains of Argentina, the behavioral response to temperature varies between populations from different altitudes. Animals from high altitude (cold environment) reduce their activity rate at high temperatures, in contrast to animals from low altitude (relatively warmer environment). The goal of this study was to unveil the mechanism underlying such intraspecific behavioral variability in P. xanthopygus. We characterized activity rates under different thermal treatments both for wild-reared and lab-reared animals. As we expected, the intraspecific variability shown by animals raised at different altitudes in the field disappeared in animals raised under homogenous conditions in the laboratory. Our results are indicative of ontogenetic plasticity in P. xanthopygus and suggest that the behavioral versatility of adult individuals to deal with thermal challenges is shaped by the range of environmental conditions experienced during their early life. This adds to the list of features that modulate the biological performance of individuals and could influence the relative vulnerability of populations inhabiting different elevations under the global disturbance of climate change.Behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) is a complex and heterogeneous disorder with as yet unidentified unifying pathophysiological mechanism. There is emerging evidence that hypothalamic dysfunction, manifesting as disturbances in sleep and metabolism, is an integral component of neurodegeneration in bvFTD. Although sleep and metabolic disturbances and the behavioural abnormalities of bvFTD may appear disparate on the surface, there may be a common underlying hormonal mechanism involving orexin. Orexin is a hypothalamic neurotransmitter directly responsible for control of sleep and metabolism in healthy individuals and is implicated in many abnormal behaviours commonly seen in bvFTD - such as impulsive behaviour, hedonistic reinforcement and binge-consumption of ethanol. Further characterising orexin's role in pathophysiology of bvFTD could lead to a new paradigm for understanding this disease and may provide a new direction towards effective management and treatment.Simulation-based learning (SBL) is becoming an accepted part of health education. Providing high-quality simulation-based education depends more on skilled facilitators than on elaborate simulator equipment. In the last six years, a cross-professional facilitator course has been developed to train interprofessional staff and faculty from health educational institutions in Bergen. The course starts with two days of traditional simulation theory and practice followed by a third day five weeks later. During the third day, participants present their own experiences from practising as facilitators in their own workplaces. In this paper, we present the course content and the participants' evaluation of the course based on the qualitative content analysis of their answers to open-ended questions. The main findings were that the course format and primary focus on practice were appreciated and that the follow-up day was especially useful to broaden the learning experience.
