We aim to describe and synthesize the scientific literature on nurses' formal reporting of workplace violence.

Research on reporting workplace violence among nurses is increasing annually, but the evidence from such reports has not been summarized or analysed.

A scoping review was conducted using electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL and Ovid-Embase.

Forty-nine studies were included in this review, and four significant issues pertinent to reporting of workplace violence was identified (1) the reporting rate is generally low, and oral report is the most popular medium; (2) nurses are often not satisfied with how the organisation handles their report; (3) the reasons affecting reporting are complex and diverse; and (4) few studies have proposed countermeasures to promote reporting formally.

Scholars are paying increasing attention to workplace violence; however, the reporting of workplace violence in real world situations is not being facilitated to inform improvements in managing violence in the workplace. Therefore, more countermeasures conducive to reporting urgently need to be put forward.

Nurse managers are in a pivotal position to encourage reporting by their staff, respond pro-actively and advocate for more streamlined and accessible processes. Programs interviewed applicants and made offers as early as the first half of Post Graduate Year 3 (PGY3), a suboptimal timeline for applicants who may have had little prior exposure to neuromuscular or electrodiagnostic medicine. In 2021, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) developed the Neuromuscular Fellowship Portal to standardize a later timeline and establish a process for fellowship applications and offers. In its first year, the Neuromuscular Fellowship Portal used a unique one-way match, in which the portal released serial offers to applicants based on rank order lists submitted by programs. Fifty-two Neuromuscular Medicine programs and seven electromyography (EMG)-focused Clinical Neurophysiology programs participated. Sixty-eight positions were filled, a similar number to previous years. A survey of fellowship directors and applicants following this process showed overwhelming support for the standardized timeline and application portal, but all program directors and most applicants favored moving to a traditional match. To maintain the existing application timeline and minimize costs for all parties, the AANEM Neuromuscular Fellowship Portal will host a two-way match, based on existing commercial match algorithms, in 2022. A match will afford a fair and efficient process for all involved. Both Neuromuscular Medicine and EMG-focused Clinical Neurophysiology programs will be encouraged to participate. The process undertaken by the AANEM can stand as an example for other neurologic subspecialties who are interested in standardizing their application timeline.
 The incidence of synchronous multiple primary lung cancer (SMPLC) has progressively increased, due to recent advances in imaging. To date, no guidelines defining recommendations for patients' selection and no standard treatment of cases with SMPLC have been defined.The primary aim of this systematic review was to assess survival among patients treated with lobectomy or sublobar resection MPLC.

 Comprehensive literature search of Medline, the Cochrane Library, reference lists, and ongoing studies was performed according to a prospectively registered design (PROSPERO CRD42019115487). All studies published between 1998 and December 2020 that examined treatments with lobectomy compared to sublobar resection were included. Two double-blind investigators independently selected articles.Primary outcomes were to assess the 5-year overall survival (OS) rate among patients treated with lobectomy or sublobar resection and the impact of lymph node status on 5-year OS and 5-year disease-free survival in patients with MPLC.

 The search yielded 424 articles; 4 observational studies met the inclusion criteria and collectively evaluated 298 patients with a mean age ranging from 61.5 to 67 years. A total of 112 patients were treated for bilateral synchronous tumors and 186 patients for unilateral multiple synchronous tumors. All included studies showed that the type of resection, lobectomy or limited resection, had no significant impact on survival.

 We retrospectively evaluated in-hospital and overall outcome of patients who received mitral valve replacement (MVR) after failed MitraClip procedure.

 A total of 26 out of 740 patients received MVR after treatment with MitraClip between June 2010 and December 2020. We analyzed in-hospital mortality and overall mortality during the median follow-up period of 72 days after MVR.

 Early diagnosis of poststernotomy mediastinitis (PSM) is challenging. Since 2016, we have routinely performed mediastinal drainage fluid culture (MDFC) in patients undergoing sternotomy. This study aimed to determine the utility of MDFC for early diagnosis of PSM.

 Between November 2016 and April 2020, we conducted MDFC in 1,012 patients on the third postoperative day and prospectively observed for PSM occurrence for 3 months. If bacteria were identified, additional MDFC or blood culture was performed to reduce the possibility of false positives. Based on MDFC results, the decision for early treatment for PSM was at the attending physician's discretion.

 Bacteria were identified in MDFC of 29 patients, eight of whom subsequently developed PSM. Among 983 patients with negative MDFC, only 15 developed PSM. In multivariate analysis, previous sternotomy history and positive MDFC were predictors of PSM. Positive MDFC was regarded as true positive if (1) PSM occurred subsequently, and/or (2) the same bacteria were identified in additional MDFC/blood culture. Non-occurrence of PSM in the absence of antibiotic treatment was regarded as false-positive MDFC. The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of routine MDFC for diagnosis of mediastinal infection were 46.4, 99.0, 56.5, and 98.5%, respectively. When categorizing cases with positive MDFC based on the identified bacteria, the positive predictive value was highest (76.9%) when
were identified.

 Superficial temporal vessels have been used successfully as recipient vessels for head and neck reconstruction. This study evaluates the impact of several treatment variables on flap failure and take-back rate when using these recipient vessels.

 We conducted a retrospective study of all microsurgical reconstructions using superficial temporal vessels as recipient vessels in a period of 10 years. Variables collected included previous treatments (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, neck dissection, free flap reconstruction), type of flaps used (soft tissue, osteocutaneous), and vessel size discrepancy between donor and recipient vessels.

 Radiation-associated soft tissue injury is a potentially devastating complication for head and neck cancer patients. The damage can range from minor sequelae such as xerostomia, which requires frequent daily maintenance, to destructive degenerative processes such as osteoradionecrosis, which can contribute to flap failure and delay or reverse oral rehabilitation. Despite the need for effective radioprotectants, the literature remains sparse, primarily focused on interventions beyond the surgeon's control, such as maintenance of good oral hygiene or modulation of radiation dose.
