Pragmatics and Semantics

Many of the current philosophical theories of pragmatics concentrate on semantics. Brandom for instance, focuses on the significance of words (albeit from a pragmatic point of view).

What is the connection between what is said and what is done?

Carston, for instance, claims that modern pragmatics follows at least three principal lines: those who see it as a philosophy in the tradition of Grice, those who focus its interaction with grammar and those who are concerned about utterance interpretation. It is also believed to cover some questions that require precise descriptions.
