5. Arrhenius plot analysis yielded an activation energy (E a) of 12.3 ± 0.6 kcal mol-1. E a of 18.7 ± 0.3 and 13.8 ± 0.9 kcal mol-1 were also obtained for the decomposition of α-AHs (at pH 4.5) derived from the reaction of α-terpineol Criegee intermediates with 2-propanol and with ethanol, respectively. Based on the theoretical kinetic and thermodynamic calculations, we propose that a proton-catalyzed mechanism plays a central role in the decomposition of these α-AHs in acidic aqueous organic media, while water molecules may also participate in the decomposition pathways and affect the kinetics. The decomposition of α-AHs could act as a source of H2O2 and multifunctionalized species in atmospheric condensed phases.Salt aerosols play important roles in many processes related to atmospheric chemistry and the climate systems on both Earth and Mars. Complicated and still poorly understood processes occur on the salt surfaces when interacting with water vapor. In this study, ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) is used to characterize the surface chemical environment of Martian salt analogues originating from saline lakes and playas, as well as their responses to varying relative humidities. Generally, APXPS shows similar ionic compositions to those observed by ion chromatography (IC). However, XPS is a surface-sensitive method while IC is bulk-sensitive and differences are observed for species that preferentially partition to the surface or the bulk. Element-selective surface enhancement of Cl- is observed, likely caused by the presence of SO4 2-. In addition, Mg2+ is concentrated on the surface while Na+ is relatively depleted in the surface layer. Hence, the cations (Na+ and Mg2+) and the anions (Cl- and SO4 2-) show competitive correlations. At elevated relative humidity (RH), no major spectral changes were observed in the XPS results, except for the growth of an oxygen component originating from condensed H2O. Near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) measurements show that the magnesium and sodium spectra are sensitive to the presence of water, and the results imply that the surface is fully solvated already at RH = 5%. The surface solvation is also fully reversible as the RH is reduced. No major differences are observed between sample types and sample locations, indicating that the salts originated from saline lakes commonly have solvated surfaces under the environmental conditions on Earth.Nominally undoped SrTiO3 single crystals were illuminated by UV light at 350 °C in oxidizing as well as reducing atmospheres. In N2/O2 atmospheres, UV irradiation enhances the conductivity of SrTiO3 by several orders of magnitude. In dry H2 atmosphere UV exposure leads to the opposite conductivity effect, i.e., above band gap energy illumination surprisingly lowers the conductivity. This is discussed in the framework of a defect chemical model. We show that a shift in defect concentrations due to UV-driven oxygen incorporation from the gas phase into the oxide is the main cause of the measured conductivity changes. A model is introduced to illustrate the thermodynamic and kinetic drivers of the processes under UV irradiation. Noteably, in reducing H2/H2O atmospheres, the incorporation of oxygen into the investigated oxide under UV light takes place via water splitting. Owing to the predominant electron conduction of SrTiO3 in equilibrium with H2, oxygen incorporation upon UV and thus an increase of the oxygen chemical potential leads to a decrease of the majority electronic charge carrier, here electrons, which lowers the conductivity under UV irradiation.
The optimal volumetric threshold for determining progressive disease (PD) in recurrent glioblastoma is yet to be determined. We investigated a range of thresholds in association with overall survival (OS).

First recurrent glioblastoma patients treated with bevacizumab and/or lomustine were included from the phase II BELOB and phase III EORTC26101 trials. Enhancing and nonenhancing tumor volumes were measured at baseline, first (6 weeks), and second (12 weeks) follow-up. Selleckchem Infigratinib Hazard ratios (HRs) for the appearance of new lesions and several thresholds for tumor volume increase were calculated using cox regression analysis. Results were corrected in a multivariate analysis for well-established prognostic factors.

At first and second follow-up, 138 and 94 patients respectively, were deemed eligible for analysis of enhancing volumes, while 89 patients were included in the analysis of nonenhancing volumes at first follow-up. New lesions were associated with a significantly worse OS (3.2 versus 11.2 months, HR = 7 The per-RANO added change in nonenhancing volumes to the analyses was of limited value.Physical inactivity (PI) is a leading risk factor for global mortality worldwide, a major preventable cause of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and a socioeconomic burden for healthcare systems. Fortunately, evidence shows that exercise interventions delivered by qualified exercise science graduates is an effective way to reduce PI, prevent and treat NCDs. This study compares the integration of exercise science graduates, defined as university graduates with degrees in sport and exercise science, in the healthcare systems of Australia, a commonly cited model in this regard, and Switzerland, a country considered to have an effective but costly healthcare system. For both countries, three domains were reviewed healthcare system, exercise science graduates' education, and roles played by exercise science graduates in healthcare system. Australia formally recognizes specifically trained exercise science graduates (referred to as Accredited Exercise Physiologists) as healthcare professionals. The exercise intervencare might limit the positive impact exercise science graduates have on the Australian healthcare system. Overall, mutual learning between countries can promote development and global recognition of clinical positions for exercise science graduates.Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems have become pervasive for smart homes. In recent years, many of these IoT sensing systems are developed to enable in-home long-term monitoring applications, such as personalized services in smart homes, elderly/patient monitoring, etc. However, these systems often require complicated and expensive installation processes, which are some of the main concerns affecting users' adoption of smart home systems. In this work, we focus on floor vibration-based occupant monitoring systems, which enables non-intrusive in-home continuous occupant monitoring, such as patient step tracking and gait analysis. However, to enable these applications, the system would require known locations of vibration sensors placed in the environment. Current practice relies on manually input of location, which makes the installation labor-intensive, time consuming, and expensive. On the other hand, without known location of vibration sensors, the output of the system does not have intuitive physical meaning and is incomprehensive to users, which limits the systems' usability. We present AutoLoc, a scheme to estimate the location of the vibration sensors in a two-dimensional space in the view of a nearby camera, which has spatial physical meaning. AutoLoc utilizes occupants' walking events captured by both vibration sensors and the co-located camera to estimate the vibration sensors' location in the camera view. First, AutoLoc detects and localizes the occupant's footsteps in the vision data. Then, it associates the time and location of the event to the floor vibration data. Next, the extracted vibration data of the given event from multiple vibration sensors are used to estimate the sensors' locations in the camera view coordinates. We conducted real-world experiments and achieved up to 0.07 meters localization accuracy. In the 1960s, landmark legislation targeted the long-standing practice of labor market discrimination against US women. The Equal Pay Act of 1963, an amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), became the first piece of federal legislation mandating equal pay for equal work. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act followed in 1964 with a provision that more broadly prohibited any sex-based discrimination in employment. Complementing this legislation, the 1961 and 1966 FLSA amendments increased the real minimum wage by 24 percent by 1970 and almost doubled the number of workers it covered, extending the FLSA's provisions to an additional 22.6 million individuals (US Department of Labor 1961, 1970). These changes benefited many workers in some of the economy's lowest-earning industries, such as services, retail trade, and government (that is, schools and hospitals)-industries where many women worked.Health and performance of early-weaned steers were evaluated during a 56-d weaning period, a 56-d feedlot receiving period, and a 165-d feedlot finishing period. Steers (n = 239; 128 ± 14 d of age) were assigned to a 56-d weaning treatment drylot weaning (D) or pasture weaning (P). Pasture steers grazed mature, native tallgrass range (89.2% dry matter [DM], 9.08% crude protein [CP]), without supplementation. A concentrate-based diet (18.7% CP and 1.15 Mcal NEg/kg) was fed to D steers. Later, all steers were transitioned to a receiving, then a finishing diet and fed to a common endpoint. Body weight (BW) after and average daily gain (ADG) during weaning were greater (P less then 0.01) for D than for P. Incidence of undifferentiated fever during weaning tended to be greater (P = 0.10) for D steers than for P steers. Conversely, incidence of keratoconjunctivitis was greater (P less then 0.01) for P than for D during weaning (40.2% vs. 0%, respectively) and receiving (P less then 0.01; 14.3% vs. 1.6%, resper United States Department of Agriculture yield grade. Growth and health during a 56-d weaning period and a 56-d receiving period were improved when steers were weaned in a drylot environment and fed a concentrate-based diet compared with non-supplemented steers weaned in a pasture environment. We interpret these data to suggest that, under the conditions of our experiment, steers preconditioned on mature, native, warm-season pasture for 56 d without supplementation were unable to compensate for previous nutrient restriction during finishing.Three alfalfa biotypes were chosen based on the presumption that they would be sources of alfalfa herbage that differed in lignin concentration and therefore cell wall digestibility. The hypothesis was that a lesser lignin concentration would result in greater alfalfa neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibility and greater beef steer growth performance. The three alfalfa biotypes were HarvXtra (Forage Genetics International), Hi-Gest 360 (Alforex Seeds), and a control alfalfa, LegenDairy XHD (Winfield Solutions LLC). High-moisture wrapped bales were prepared from second-harvest, d 30 crops. Digestibility of NDF was determined using in vitro incubations and a steer digestibility trial. Alfalfa baleage and trace mineral salt were fed to Angus steers (300 kg initial body weight, 4 pens/treatment) in an 83-day growing-phase trial. Alfalfa acid detergent lignin concentrations were 75.6, 71.8, and 63.0 g/kg dry matter (P = 0.34) for LegenDairy, Hi-Gest and HarvXtra, respectively. Based on in vitro total-tract NDF digestibility coefficients, HarvXtra tended (P ≥ 0.
