Continuous glucose monitoring-derived parameters are becoming increasingly important in the treatment of people with diabetes. The aim of this study was to assess whether these parameters, as calculated from different continuous glucose monitoring systems worn in parallel, are comparable. In addition, clinical relevance of differences was investigated.

A total of 24 subjects wore a FreeStyle Libre (A) and a Dexcom G5 (B) sensor in parallel for 7 days. Mean glucose, coefficient of variation, glucose management indicator and time spent in different glucose ranges were calculated for each system. Pairwise differences between the two different continuous glucose monitoring systems were computed for these metrics.

On average, the two CGM systems indicated an identical time in range (67.9±10.2 vs. 67.9±11.5%) and a similar coefficient of variation; both categorized as unstable (38.1±5.9 vs. 36.0±4.8%). In contrast, the mean time spent below and above range, as well as the individual times spent below, in and above range differed substantially. System A indicated about twice the time spent below range than system B (7.7±7.2 vs. 3.8±2.7%, p=0.003). This could have led to different therapy recommendations in approximately half of the subjects.

Noncoding RNAs are central regulators of cellular activities that modulate target genes. However, the roles of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) MIR155HG and miRNA-155 (miR-155) in the pathophysiology of depression are unclear. In the present study, we aimed to explore the effects of lncRNA MIR155HG and miR-155 on the development of depression and uncover the underlying molecular mechanism. NF-κB inhibitor Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to examine the expression of MIR155HG and miR-155. Western blotting was applied to measure the expression of BDNF. A luciferase reporter assay was utilized to determine the regulatory relationship between MIR155HG and miR-155. Our current work found that lncRNA MIR155HG and BDNF levels decreased while miR-155 levels increased in the hippocampal region of CUMS (chronic unpredictable mild stress) mice, a well-accepted mouse model of depression. Moreover, MIR155HG rescued while miR-155 exacerbated the depression-like behaviors of CUMS mice. Through bioinformatics analysis and luciferase reporter assays, we found that MIR155HG directly bound to and negatively modulated the expression of miR-155. Moreover, increased miR-155 was found to repress the expression of BDNF, a critical neurotrophic factor that has been reported to alleviate the depression-like behaviors of CUMS mice. Our present study revealed that lncRNA MIR155HG protected CUMS mice by regulating the miR-155/BDNF axis. Our study aimed to understand the pathophysiology of depression and provided potential therapeutic targets to diagnose and treat depression.
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, and prevalence rates are high among people living with HIV (PLWH), particularly in men. Depression is also common among PLWH, especially among smokers, who may use tobacco to manage mood. Although HIV and depression have been linked to functional impairment and poor health-related quality of life (HRQOL), little research has examined the degree to which smoking impacts these relationships in low- and middle-income countries with high HIV burden.

Participants (N=289) were people living with HIV (PLWH) who were being assessed for inclusion in a study targeting depression as a barrier to HIV medication adherence. Linear regression models measured the effect of gender on tobacco use (assessed by the WHO-ASSIST) and on each of the five HRQOL functional impairment domains (assessed by the SF-21). Separate multivariable regression models examined the relationships between habitual tobacco use, defined as daily, almost daily, or weekly use, and the uture smoking cessation treatments tailored to PLWH who have symptoms of depression may benefit from strategies that consider pain management as a pathway to habitual smoking and recognize that motivations for use may differ by gender.
The olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) is a saltwater fish, which is valuable to the economy. The olive flounder strives to adapt to environmental stressors through physiological, biochemical, and transcriptional responses. The rise in water temperature threatens the growth, development, reproduction, and survival of olive flounder. Each organ in the olive flounder can differentially respond to heat stress.

The purpose of this study is to investigate organ-specific transcriptional changes in olive flounder tissues during heat stress.

In this study, transcriptome dynamics of the gill, liver, and muscle of olive flounder to acute or chronic heat stress were investigated.

Principal component analysis plotting revealed that the transcriptome of each organ is quite separated. K-means clustering, gene ontology, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis showed the differential transcriptome responses of each organ to heat stress. Heat stress commonly affects the pathways involved in the correct protein folding, DNA repair, and cell cycle.

With the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, many federal agencies relaxed policies regulating opioid use disorder treatment. The impact of these changes has been minimally documented. The abrupt nature of these shifts provides a naturalistic opportunity to examine adaptations for opioid use disorder treatment in primary care.

To examine change in medical and behavioral health appointment frequency, visit type, and management of patients with opioid use disorder in response to COVID-19.

A 14-item survey queried primary care practices that were enrolled in a medications for opioid use disorder statewide expansion project. Survey content focused on changes in service delivery because of COVID-19. The survey was open for 18 days.

We surveyed 338 clinicians from 57 primary care clinics located in California, including federally qualified health centers and look-alikes. A representative from all 57 clinics (100%) and 118 staff (34.8% of all staff clinicians) participated in the survey.
