Crape myrtles, belonging to the genus Lagerstroemia L., have beautiful paniculate inflorescences and are cultivated as important ornamental tree species for landscaping and gardening. However, the phylogenetic relationships within Lagerstroemia have remained unresolved likely caused by limited sampling and the insufficient number of informative sites used in previous studies.

In this study, we sequenced 20 Lagerstroemia chloroplast genomes and combined with 15 existing chloroplast genomes from the genus to investigate the phylogenetic relationships and divergence times within Lagerstroemia. The phylogenetic results indicated that this genus is a monophyletic group containing four clades. Our dating analysis suggested that Lagerstroemia originated in the late Paleocene (~ 60Ma) and started to diversify in the middle Miocene. The diversification of most species occurred during the Pleistocene. Four variable loci, trnD-trnY-trnE, rrn16-trnI, ndhF-rpl32-trnL and ycf1, were discovered in the Lagerstroemia chloroplast genomes.

Primary care nurses can assist General Practitioner's to identify cognition concerns and support patient health self-management for those experiencing cognitive impairment or dementia. This support may lead to more appropriate care and better health outcomes for this group. Consequently, there is a need to identify the role of the primary care nurse in dementia care provision, nurse perceptions of this role and to also understand the barriers and enablers that may influence any current or potential primary care nurse role in dementia care provision.

Eight focus groups were conducted with a total of 36 primary care nurses. Data was transcribed verbatim and thematically analysed.

There was a high level of agreement between primary care nurses that they had a role in provision of dementia care. This role was largely attributed to the strong therapeutic relationship between nurses and patients. However, dementia care provision was not without its challenges, including a perceived lack of knowledge, limited eople with a cognitive impairment and to develop dementia care guidelines for primary care nurses.
The findings of this study suggest primary care nurses have a role in dementia care provision and, there is a need to provide support for the nurse to deliver person-centred health care in the context of cognitive impairment. As the demand for good quality primary care for people living with dementia increases, the role of the primary care nurse should be considered in primary care policy discussions. The knowledge gained from this study could be useful in informing dementia training content, to provide better prompts in the health assessment and care planning templates used by primary care nurses to better identify the care needs of people with a cognitive impairment and to develop dementia care guidelines for primary care nurses.
The importance of SA (Successful aging) has been emphasized in recent years, with focus shifting towards attaining healthier aging rather than longevity. However, the influence of SA and its changes on mental health such as depression remains a relatively unexplored area in gerontology. Therefore, we investigated the longitudinal association between changes in SA and depressive symptoms in Korean older adults.

This study comprised a longitudinal sample of older adults aged ≥ 45 years, drawn from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (2006-2018). Changes in SA status was determined using the Rowe and Kahn model over two consecutive years. Using an adjusted generalized estimating equation model, we examined the association between changes in successful aging status, namely SA and NSA (Non-successful aging), and depressive symptoms.

Compared to the SA→SA group, depressive symptom risk in the NSA→NSA and SA→NSA groups were higher in men [(OR, 1.16; 95 % CI, 1.13-1.18), (OR, 1.11; 95 % CI, 1.08-1.13), respectively] and in women [(OR, 1.15; 95 % CI, 1.13-1.18), (OR, 1.11; 95 % CI, 1.09-1.14), respectively]. Subgroup analysis of the dimensions of successful aging revealed that low or worsening criteria of successful aging status in men and women were associated with depressive symptoms.

The aim of this study was to find out the relationship between serum biomarkers and cerebral collateral status in acute ischemic stroke with cerebral large artery atherosclerosis.

We enrolled patients with ischemic stroke due to large artery atherosclerosis within 7days of symptom onset, age 18-80years, from August 2016 to December 2017. Twelve biomarkers representing different pathophysiological mechanisms were tested after admission. Whole-brain perfusion combined with multiphase computed tomography angiography was performed to assess cerebral collateral structure and function.

Fifty-two patients completed the test of candidate biomarkers and recruited in this study. The mean age was 55.0 (11.1) years, 42 (80.8%) patients were male, 20 (38.5%) had poor collateral, 36 (69.2%) patients had anterior circulation stenosis or occlusion. Compared with poor collateral group, the level of MMP-9 (135,475.00pg/ml vs. 103,612.00pg/ml, p =0.040) and PGF (5.75pg/ml vs. 3.46pg/ml, p =0.046) was significantly higher in good collateral group. Here, the adult rat model of ICH was used to investigate the efficacy of a combinational therapy of deferoxamine (DFX) and minocycline.Methods The ICH was induced by stereotaxic infusion of collagenase into striatum of adult rats. After the induction of ICH, rats were treated with intraperitoneal injection of deferoxamine (50 mg/kg), minocycline (45 mg/kg), or both agents, at 2 hours after ICH and then every 12 hours for up to 3 days. The vehicle group were treated with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) only. Rats were killed at 1, 2, and 3 day(s) for examination of iron deposition, neuronal death, neurological deficits, the area of brain damage, activation of microglia/macrophages.Results Our data revealed that the systemic administration of DFX and/or minocycline decreased iron accumulation. And immunofluorescence staining results indicated that drug-treated group significantly decreased the neuronal degeneration, the number of activated microglia/macrophages and the amount of cell death after ICH. In addition, neurological deficits caused by ICH were improved in the presence of DFX and/or minocycline compare with vehicle group. Furthermore, the combination treatment showed better effects in neuroprotection and anti-inflammation when compared to the monotherapy groups.Conclusions The combination therapy significantly reduces the number of neuronal deaths, suppresses of the activation of microglia/macrophages, decreases iron accumulation in the area around the hematoma, lessening the brain damage area, and improving neurological deficits in ICH.Background and purpose Low-dose of carbon monoxide delivered by CO-releasing molecule-2 (CORM-2) had been confirmed having anti-inflammatory efficacy in some inflammatory diseases. Compared with the control group, the health status of the intervention group improved significantly, the YAX symptom score was reduced, and the efficacy remained high at the one-year follow-up.
