Further optimization is imperative because of a paucity of literature and differences in the attenuation profile of virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs). Purpose To determine the optimal trigger threshold with bolus-tracking technique for DECT angiography (DECTA) in a phantom study and assess the feasibility of an optimized threshold for bolus-tracking technique in DECTA at 40 keV with a 50% reduced iodine dose in human participants. Materials and Methods A phantom study with rapid kilovoltage-switching DECT was performed to determine the optimal threshold for each kiloelectron-volt VMI. However, very little is known regarding their relative elimination rates and retained fraction of injected gadolinium. Purpose To quantify and compare gadolinium retention and elimination rates in human brain tissue, skin, and bone obtained from cadavers exposed to single-agent administration of either gadoteridol (macrocyclic GBCA) or gadobenate dimeglumine (linear GBCA). Materials and Methods Autopsy cases from August 2014 to July 2019 of patients exposed to a single type of GBCA, either gadoteridol or gadobenate dimeglumine, either single or multiple doses, were included. Gadolinium levels in the brain, skin, and bone were analyzed with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Linear regression was used to compare gadolinium retention between agents and estimate elimination rates of the retained gadolinium using the time between last injection and death. Results Td bone compared with the macrocyclic agent gadoteridol. See also the editorial by Tweedle in this issue.Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threatens people's physical and mental health, globally, and it may even trigger suicide ideation and suicidal behavior. Aims We aimed to examine the impact of COVID-19 on suicide risk by sampling Chinese Weibo users and analyzing their social media messages. Method We predicted the probability of suicide (including hopelessness, suicidal ideation, negative self-evaluation, and hostility) of Weibo users in order to assess the changes in suicide probability at different times. Repeated-measures ANOVA was performed to examine the differences in suicide probability in different regions during different periods. Results There was no significant difference in suicide probability between profoundly infected areas (PIAs) and less infected areas (LIAs) before the outbreak of COVID-19. LIAs had an increase in hopelessness during the COVID-19 growth period, while hopelessness and hostility in PIA increased during the COVID-19 decline period, indicating potential suicide probability. Limitations Results should be interpreted with caution, and cross-cultural research may be considered in the future. Conclusion COVID-19 has a dynamic impact on suicide probability. Using data from online social networks may help to understand the impact pattern of COVID-19 on people's suicide probability.There is growing interest in, and need for, integrating palliative care (PC) into the care of patients undergoing emergency surgery and those with traumatic injury. Thus, PC consults for these populations will likely grow in the coming years. Understanding the nuances and unique characteristics of these two acutely ill populations will improve the care that PC clinicians can provide. Using a modified Delphi technique, this article offers 10 tips that experts in the field, based on their broad clinical experience, believe PC clinicians should know about the care of trauma and emergency surgery patients.Background Until recently, little was known about the public's knowledge of suicide or its association with help-seeking. Aims In this article we describe the development, validation, and application of the Literacy of Suicide Scale (LOSS). Method A total of 658 people participated in the development of the LOSS, while 191 participated in a validation study. Item response theory was used to identify LOSS items. A systematic review of the literature was conducted to ascertain the breadth of use and application of the LOSS. Results Overall, 26 items were selected for the final version of the LOSS, with 12 items identified for a short form of the scale. The LOSS has been included in 25 studies across nine countries with general community, student, and clinical populations. The LOSS has demonstrated change in response to psychoeducation interventions and is associated with suicide stigma and help-seeking in select studies. Limitations Further validation of the LOSS in clinical populations is needed. Conclusion The LOSS is a comprehensive measure of suicide literacy that may be used to identify knowledge gaps, inform awareness-raising activities, and assess the effectiveness of interventions to improve suicide literacy. Abstract. Autism spectrum disorders are etiologically based on genetic and specific gene x biologically relevant environmental risk factors. They are diagnosed based on behavioral characteristics, such as impaired social communication and stereotyped, repetitive behavior and sensory as well as special interests. The genetic background is heterogeneous, i. e., it comprises diverse genetic risk factors across the disorder and high interindividual differences of specific genetic risk factors. Nevertheless, risk factors converge regarding underlying biological mechanisms and shared pathways, which likely cause the autism-specific behavioral characteristics. The current selective literature review summarizes differential genetic risk factors and focuses particularly on mechanisms and pathways currently being discussed by international research. In conclusion, clinically relevant aspects and open translational research questions are presented.During mitosis, eukaryotic cells must duplicate and separate their chromosomes in a precise and timely manner. Aims We examined whether suicidal ideation levels among the general population changed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic by tracking individuals between January and April 2020. Method We used a prospective observational longitudinal design (n = 6,683) and stratified sampling to conduct online surveys of the general adult population in Japan before (baseline) and during the pandemic (follow-up). Results Suicidal ideation levels were significantly lower during than before the pandemic; however, the effect size was very small. Participants who were younger, with unstable employment, without children, with low income, and receiving psychiatric care were more likely to have higher suicidal ideation levels during the pandemic. Limitations Because this was an Internet survey and subject to selection bias, the sample was not necessarily representative of the Japanese population. At the time of the survey, COVID-19 cases and deaths in Japan were relatively lower than in other developed countries. The dropout rate may have affected the results. Conclusion Although the short-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on suicidal ideation is limited, relatively young and economically vulnerable individuals are more likely to show exacerbated suicidal ideation during the pandemic.Background Suicide risk following youth psychiatric hospitalization is of significant concern. This study evaluated Linking Individuals Needing Care (LINC), a theory-driven, comprehensive care coordination approach for youth discharged from crisis services. Aims To pilot LINC's potential effectiveness in increasing service utilization and decreasing suicide risk. Method Participants were 460 youth patients who received LINC for approximately 90 days following discharge from crisis services. Service utilization, depressive symptoms, and suicide-related variables were measured at baseline and 30, 60, and 90 days after baseline. Results Patients significantly increased the use of various beneficial, least restrictive services (individual therapy, medication management, and non-mental health supports) over the 90-day intervention. Significant decreases were observed in depressive symptoms, suicide ideation, and engagement in suicide-related behaviors. Limitations Absence of a comparison group and nonparticipating families limit causal conclusions and generalizability. Conclusions LINC may be a promising new approach following inpatient hospitalization that can engage and retain youth in services, likely resulting in improved treatment outcomes. This approach was designed emphasizing patient engagement, suicide risk assessment and management, safety planning, community networking, referral/linkage monitoring, coping and motivational strategies, and linguistic/culturally responsive practices to meet service and support needs of high-risk suicidal youth.
