However, few studies have investigated the impact of a single and acute mTBI on episodic memory and structural cerebral changes. To do so, we conducted two experiments. In the first, we evaluated verbal episodic memory by using a word recall test, in 52 patients with mTBI (mean age 33.1 [12.2] years) 2-4 weeks after a first mTBI, compared with 54 healthy controls (31.3 [9.2] years) and followed both groups up for 6 months. In the second, we measured hippocampal volume in a subset of 40 participants (20 patients with mTBI, 20 controls) from Experiment 1 using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; T1-weighted images) and correlated memory performance scores to hippocampal volume. Experiment 1 showed significantly reduced verbal episodic memory within the first month after an mTBI and a tendency for a reduction 6 months later, more pronounced for men. In Experiment 2, patients with mTBI exhibited a generally reduced hippocampal volume; however, we did not observe any linear correlation between hippocampal volume and memory scores. These results suggest that one single mTBI is associated with both episodic memory alteration and reduced volume of the hippocampus in the acute phase. Future studies are needed to elucidate the link between both measures.Objective To explore changes in resting-state networks in patients with jerky and tremulous functional movement disorders (JT-FMD). Methods Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data from seventeen patients with JT-FMD and seventeen age-, sex-, and education-matched healthy controls (HC) were investigated. Independent component analysis was used to examine the central executive network (CEN), salience network, and default mode network (DMN). Frequency distribution of network signal fluctuations and intra- and internetwork functional connectivity were investigated. Symptom severity was measured using the Clinical Global Impression-Severity scale. Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory scores were collected to measure depression and anxiety in FMD, respectively. Results Compared with HC, patients with JT-FMD had significantly decreased power of lower range (0.01-0.10 Hz) frequency fluctuations in a precuneus and posterior cingulate cortex component of the DMN and in the dorsal attention network (DAN) component of the CEN (false discovery rate-corrected p  less then  0.05). No significant group differences were found for intra- and internetwork functional connectivity. In patients with JT-FMD, symptom severity was not significantly correlated with network measures. Depression scores were weakly correlated with intranetwork functional connectivity in the medial prefrontal cortex, while anxiety was not found to be related to network connectivity. Conclusions Given the changes in the posterodorsal components of the DMN and DAN, we postulate that the JT-FMD-related functional alterations found in these regions could provide support for the concept that particularly attentional dysregulation is a fundamental disturbance in these patients.To gain additional experience in ultrasound-guided procedures, interventional radiology (IR)-bound surgical preliminary interns at an urban community hospital established a difficult intravenous access (DIVA) consult service. This study evaluates the efficacy, safety, and educational value for such a team. The first year of DIVA team results were followed from May 2019 to April 2020. The value of the experience for IR-bound residents vs. categorical general surgery residents (GS) was compared. 239 patients were evaluated by the DIVA team for a total of 4.3 consults per week. General surgery residents performed an additional estimated 2.5 consults per week. For IR residents, 218/230 (94.8%) PIV and 8/9 (88.9%) midline attempts were successful. However, there has yet to be agreement on what constitutes "early" surgery; reported thresholds range from 8 to 72 h. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted an observational cohort study using data from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) from 2010 to 2016. The association between time from hospital arrival to surgical intervention and risk of major complications was assessed using restricted cubic splines. Propensity score matching was then used to assess the association between delayed surgery and risk of complications. link2 Across 354 trauma centers 4108 adult TLSCI patients who underwent surgery were included. Median time-to-surgery was 18.8 h (interquartile range [IQR] 7.4-40.9 h). The spline model suggests the risk of major complication rises consistently after a 12-h surgical wait-time. After propensity score matching, the odds of major complication were significantly lower for those receiving surgery within 12 h (odds ratio [OR] 0.77, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.64 to 0.94). This was also true for immobility-related complications (OR 0.79, 95% CI 0.64 to 0.97). Patients in the early group spent 1.5 fewer days in the critical care unit on average (95% CI -2.09 to -0.88). Although surgery within 12 h may not always be feasible, these data suggest that whenever possible surgeons should strive to reduce the amount of time between hospital arrival and surgical intervention, and health care systems should support this endeavor.Purpose Develop a quantitative LC-MS/MS method for FDG, FDG-monophosphate, glucose and glucose-monophosphate in mouse tumor models to assist in validating the use of [18F]FDG-positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for anticancer therapies in a clinical setting. Methodology/results Analytes were isolated from tumors by protein precipitation and detected on a Sciex API-5500 mass spectrometer. Improved assay robustness and selectivity were achieved through chromatographic separation of FDG-monophosphate from glucose-monophosphate, selection of a unique ion transition and incorporation of stable isotope labeled internal standards. In a mouse JIMT-1 tumor model, FDG-monophosphate levels measured by LC-MS/MS correlated with [18F]FDG-PET imaging results. Conclusion LC-MS/MS analysis of FDG-monophosphate accumulation in tumors is a cost-effective tool to gauge the translational potential of [18F]FDG-PET imaging as a noninvasive biomarker in clinical studies.

Here, we hypothesized (1) early fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) VT inflammation can predict subsequent vein wall scarring (VWS) and (2) statin therapy can reduce FDG-PET VT inflammation and subsequent VWS.

C57BL/6J mice (n=75) underwent induction of stasis-induced VT of the inferior vena cava or jugular vein. Inferior vena cava VT mice (n=44) were randomized to daily oral rosuvastatin 5 mg/kg or saline starting at day -1. Subgroups of mice then underwent FDG-PET/CT 2 days after VT induction. On day 14, a subset of mice was euthanized, and VWS was assessed via histology. In vitro studies were further performed on bone marrow-to assess anti-inflammatory postthrombotic syndrome therapies, such as statins.
