The detection of intrinsic brain activity (iBA) could assist clinical assessment for disorder of consciousness (DOC) patients. Previous studies have revealed the altered iBA in thalamocortical, frontoparietal, and default mode network in DOC patients using functional connectivity (FC) analysis. However, due to the assumption of synchronized iBA in FC, these studied may be inadequate for understanding the effect of severe brain injury on the temporal organization of iBA and the relationship between temporal organization and clinical feature in DOC patients. Recently, the time delay estimation (TDE) and probabilistic flow estimation (PFE) were proposed to analyze temporal organization, which could provide propagation structure and propagation probability at whole-brain level.

We applied voxel-wise TDE and PFE to assess propagation structure and propagation probability for the DOC patients and then applied the connectome-based predictive modeling (CPM) to predict clinical scores for patients based on the ROI-wise TDE and PFE.

We found that 1) the DOC patients showed abnormal voxel-wise time delay (TD) and probabilistic flow (PF) in the precentral gyrus, precuneus, middle cingulate cortex, and postcentral gyrus, 2) the range of TD value in the patients was shorter than that in the controls, and 3) the ROI-wise TD had a better predictive performance for clinical scores of the patients compared with that based on ROI-wise PF.

Our findings may suggest that the propagation structure of iBA could be used to predict clinical scores in DOC patients.There is evidence of longitudinal atrophy in posterior brain areas in early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD; aged less then 65 years), but no studies have been conducted in an EOAD cohort with fluid biomarkers characterization. We used 3T-MRI and Freesurfer 6.0 to investigate cortical and subcortical gray matter loss at two years in 12 EOAD patients (A + T + N + ) compared to 19 controls (A-T-N-) from the Hospital Clínic Barcelona cohort. We explored group differences in atrophy patterns and we correlated atrophy and baseline CSF-biomarkers levels in EOAD. Phorbol12myristate13acetate We replicated the correlation analyses in 14 EOAD (A + T + N + ) and 55 late-onset AD (LOAD; aged ≥ 75 years; A + T + N + ) participants from the Alzheimer's disease Neuroimaging Initiative. We found that EOAD longitudinal atrophy spread with a posterior-to-anterior gradient and beyond hippocampus/amygdala. In EOAD, higher initial CSF NfL levels correlated with higher ventricular volumes at baseline. On the other hand, higher initial CSF Aβ42 levels (within pathological range) predicted higher rates of cortical loss in EOAD. In EOAD and LOAD subjects, higher CSF t-tau values at baseline predicted higher rates of subcortical atrophy. CSF p-tau did not show any significant correlation. In conclusion, posterior cortices, hippocampus and amygdala capture EOAD atrophy from early stages. CSF Aβ42 might predict cortical thinning and t-tau/NfL subcortical atrophy.Cerebral palsy (CP) is a motor disorder where the motor defects are partly due to impaired proprioception. We studied cortical proprioceptive responses and sensorimotor performance in adolescents with CP and their typically-developed (TD) peers. Passive joint movements were used to stimulate proprioceptors during functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) session to quantify the proprioceptive responses whose associations to behavioral sensorimotor performance were also examined. Twenty-three TD (15 females, age mean ± standard deviation 14.2 ± 2.4 years) and 18 CP (12 females, age mean ± standard deviation, 13.8 ± 2.3 years; 12 hemiplegic, 6 diplegic) participants were included in this study. Participants' index fingers and ankles were separately stimulated at 3 Hz and 1 Hz respectively with pneumatic movement actuators. This study addresses the knowledge gap through a wear trial with five types of anti-vibration gloves made of chloroprene rubber and spacer fabric. Surface electromyography of three forearm muscles of 16 male subjects was conducted during gripping, key pinching, woodblock transporting, screw inserting and screw driving tasks. The correlation between the compression properties of the gloves and hand performance was also evaluated. The results show that hand dexterity is inhibited and more muscle activity is needed to carry the woodblocks with the spacer fabric glove without special design features. A thicker glove can reduce the demand of the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle when using an impact driver. link2 A thinner dorsal side and tailored padding can enhance hand dexterity. The findings can be used as a reference for designing anti-vibration gloves.
Turns are often cited as a difficult task for individuals with Parkinson's disease and often lead to falls, however targeted exercise interventions may help to reduce this problem. This study examined the effects of a 10-week home-based exercise program focusing on turns which may be an exercise approach for improving mobility and reducing falls in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Turning and stepping characteristics were recorded using Inertial Measurement Units while participants performed a 180° standing turn. Eye movements were measured using a BlueGain electrooculography system. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Movement Disorders Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, Functional axial rotation-physical score and the Falls Efficacy Scale International.

Twenty individuals with Parkinson's disease were matched by severity using the Modified Hoehn and Yahr scale and were randomly allocated to an exercise (n=10) or control group (n=10). Further, a history of a fall is one of the strongest predictors of a future fall; and women fall more frequently, and incur greater medical costs, compared to men. The purpose of the study was to identify lower extremity kinematic factors associated with transition step clearance and foot placement in young women and older women with and without a fall history. Methods Forty-five female participants (15 per group) completed trials that consisted of walking barefoot along a raised walkway at a self-selected speed, descending a 17 cm step, and continued level ground walking. link3 Variables of interest included lead and trail limb minimum step clearance and foot placement, and bilateral lower extremity joint positions at step clearance and at lead foot initial contact. Findings Significant group differences, with large effect sizes, were found in lead foot placement and knee flexion position at initial contact. Both older groups landed more closely to the step and made initial contact with the lead knee in a more flexed position compared to the young group. Interpretation The kinematic differences may be a strategy utilized by older adults to create an early landing to minimize time in single limb stance and compensate for age-related loss of lower extremity strength, range of motion, and/or balance. However, the greater knee flexion may also increase the risk a fall due to lead limb collapse.This paper proposes a two-dimensional (2D) bidirectional long short-term memory generative adversarial network (GAN) to produce synthetic standard 12-lead ECGs corresponding to four types of signals-left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), left branch bundle block (LBBB), acute myocardial infarction (ACUTMI), and Normal. It uses a fully automatic end-to-end process to generate and verify the synthetic ECGs that does not require any visual inspection. The proposed model is able to produce synthetic standard 12-lead ECG signals with success rates of 98% for LVH, 93% for LBBB, 79% for ACUTMI, and 59% for Normal. Statistical evaluation of the data confirms that the synthetic ECGs are not biased towards or overfitted to the training ECGs, and span a wide range of morphological features. This study demonstrates that it is feasible to use a 2D GAN to produce standard 12-lead ECGs suitable to augment artificially a diverse database of real ECGs, thus providing a possible solution to the demand for extensive ECG datasets.A detailed understanding of the microbiome of cheese and dairy products is key to the optimization of flavour, appearance, overall quality and safety. Microorganisms (including bacteria, yeasts, moulds and viruses, especially bacteriophages) from the environment can enter the dairy supply chain at multiple stages with several implications. The ability to track these microorganisms and to understand their function and interaction can be greatly enhanced by the use of high-throughput sequencing. Depending on the specific production technology, dairy products can harbor several strains and antibiotic-resistance genes that can potentially interact with the gut microbiome, once the product is ingested. Milk-associated or cheese-associated microbial communities with their interaction, function and diversity are a key factor for the dairy industry. Multi-omics approaches have been seldom utilized in literature and they need to be further considered. Studying the role, origin, diversity and function of the microbial species involved in the complex system of dairy production can help improve processes in several fields of application. Integrating an extensive sampling procedure with an extensive culture based methodology is necessary. To this end, local producers, and in general stakeholders, should be guided to discover and maintain their microbial diversity. A better management of microbial resources through precision fermentation processes will in turn reduce overall food losses and increase the possibility to use the microbiome in order to increase the local producers' income.

The aim was to describe lexical and semantic accordance in relation to comprehensiveness and granularity of concepts between the International Classification of Nursing Practise (ICNP) and the ICF.

806 pre-coordinated concepts for diagnoses and outcomes in the ICNP terminology were manually mapped to 1516 concepts on level 4-6 in the ICF.

Several dimensions of nursing diagnoses and outcomes in the ICNP were missing in the ICF. 60% of the concepts for diagnosis and outcome in the ICNP could not be stated using the ICF while another 31% could only be matched either as a subordinate or as a superordinate concept.
