Results In both cross-sessional and longitudinal networks, the most central depressive symptoms included sadness and depressed mood, whereas the most central PTSD symptoms changed from irritability and hypervigilance at the first wave to difficulty concentrating and avoidance of potential reminders at later waves. Bridge symptoms showed similarities and differences between cross-sessional and longitudinal networks with irritability/anger as the most influential bridge longitudinally. The DAG found feeling blue and intrusive thoughts the gateways to the emergence of other symptoms. Conclusions Combining cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis, this study elucidated central and bridge symptoms and potential causal pathways among PTSD and depression symptoms. Clinical implications and limitations are discussed.Background Network analysis has gained increasing attention as a new framework to study complex associations between symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A number of studies have been published to investigate symptom networks on different sets of symptoms in different populations, and the findings have been inconsistent. Objective We aimed to extend previous research by testing whether differences in PTSD symptom networks can be found in survivors of type I (single event; sudden and unexpected, high levels of acute threat) vs. type II (repeated and/or protracted; anticipated) trauma (with regard to their index trauma). Method Participants were trauma-exposed individuals with elevated levels of PTSD symptomatology, most of whom (94%) were undergoing assessment in preparation for PTSD treatment in several treatment centres in Germany and Switzerland (n = 286 with type I and n = 187 with type II trauma). We estimated Bayesian Gaussian graphical models for each trauma group and explored group differences in the symptom network. Results First, for both trauma types, our analyses identified the edges that were repeatedly reported in previous network studies. Second, there was decisive evidence that the two networks were generated from different multivariate normal distributions, i.e. the networks differed on a global level. Third, explorative edge-wise comparisons showed moderate or strong evidence for specific 12 edges. Edges which emerged as especially important in distinguishing the networks were between intrusions and flashbacks, highlighting the stronger positive association in the group of type II trauma survivors compared to type I survivors. Flashbacks showed a similar pattern of results in the associations with detachment and sleep problems (type II > type I). Conclusion Our findings suggest that trauma type contributes to the heterogeneity in the symptom network. Future research on PTSD symptom networks should include this variable in the analyses to reduce heterogeneity.Background Complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) has recently been added to the ICD-11 diagnostic system for classification of diseases. The new disorder adds three symptom clusters to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) related to disturbances in self-organization (affect dysregulation, negative self-concept, and disturbances in relationships). Little is known whether recommended evidence-based treatments for PTSD in youth are helpful for youth with CPTSD. LY3473329 Objectives This study examined whether Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is useful in reducing PTSD and CPTSD in traumatized youth. Methods Youth (n = 73, 89.0% girls, M age = 15.4 SD = 1.8) referred to one of 23 Norwegian child and adolescent mental health clinics that fulfilled the criteria for PTSD or CPTSD according to ICD-11 and received TF-CBT were included in the study. Assessments were conducted pre-treatment, and every fifth session. Linear mixed effects models were run to investigate whether youth with CPTSD and PTSD responded differently to TF-CBT. Results Among the 73 youth, 61.6% (n = 45) fulfilled criteria for CPTSD and 38.4% (n = 28) fulfilled criteria for PTSD. There were no differences in sex, age, birth country, trauma type, number of trauma types or treatment length across groups. Youth with CPTSD had a steeper decline in PTSD and CPTSD compared to youth with PTSD. The groups reported similar levels of PTSD and CPTSD post-treatment. The percentage of youth who dropped out of treatment was not different across groups. Further, the groups did not differ significantly in number of received treatment sessions. Conclusions This is the first study to examine whether TF-CBT is helpful for youth who have CPTSD using a validated instrument for measuring CPTSD. The results suggest that TF-CBT may be useful for treating CPTSD in youth. These are promising findings that should be replicated in studies with larger sample sizes.Background It is unknown whether remotely delivered intensive trauma-focused therapy not only is an effective treatment for PTSD, but also for Complex PTSD. Objective Testing the hypothesis that a brief, fully remotely administered intensive trauma-focused treatment programme for individuals with PTSD and Complex PTSD would be safe, and associated with a significant decline of the corresponding symptoms and diagnostic status. Method The treatment sample consisted of 73 consecutive patients diagnosed with PTSD according to the CAPS-5. According to the ITQ (n = 70) 33 (47.1%) patients also fulfilled the diagnostic criteria of Complex PTSD. The 4-day treatment programme contained a combination of prolonged exposure, EMDR therapy, physical activities and psycho-education. Treatment response was measured using the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5), the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), and the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) for classifying Complex PTSD and indexing disturbances in self-organization (DSO). Results Overall CAPS-5, PCL-5, and ITQ-DSO scores decreased significantly from pre- to post-treatment (Cohen's ds 2.12, 1.59, and 1.18, respectively), while the decrease was maintained to six months follow-up. At post-treatment, 60 patients (82.2%) no longer met the diagnostic criteria of PTSD, while the proportion of patients with Complex PTSD decreased from 47.1% to 10.1%. No drop out, and no personal adverse events occurred. Conclusions The results support the notion that intensive, trauma-focused treatment is feasible, safe and associated with a large decrease in PTSD and Complex PTSD symptoms, even when it is brief, and applied fully remote. Post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) are often experienced by children and family members after pediatric traumatic medical events (PTMEs). Assessing families' psychosocial risk factors is a crucial part of trauma-informed practice as it helps identify risk for PTSS in the aftermath of PTME.

Using the Psychosocial Assessment Tool 2.0 (PAT2.0), this study describes the psychosocial risk of families following PTMEs in two ways 1. Describing the psychosocial risk defined by the PAT2.0 based on three-tiered risk levels; 2. Using latent profile analysis (LPA); identifying psychosocial risk profiles and examining how child- and injury-related factors can affect profile membership.

Caregivers of 374 children following PTMEs admitted to a pediatric rehabilitation department in Israel completed the PAT2.0. Total PAT2.0 score and the seven PAT2.0 subscales (family structure/resources, social support, child problems, sibling problems, family problems, caregiver stress reactions, and family beliefs) were included el alone, based on the PAT2.0 subscales.
Families of children following PTMEs are at increased psychosocial risk. A clinically useful approach to identifying and preventing PTSS may be to evaluate specific domain patterns rather than just the total PAT2.0 risk level alone, based on the PAT2.0 subscales.The National Stressful Events Survey for PTSD-Short Scale (NSESSS-PTSD) is a brief screening measure for DSM-5 PTSD that has not been evaluated for its psychometric properties in clinical population. We developed a Korean version of the original English scale through translation-back translation process and examined its reliability and validity among treatment-seeking adults at a psychiatric outpatient unit of a university-affiliated hospital in South Korea. The sample comprised adults diagnosed with PTSD (n = 100) and other psychiatric disorders (n = 134). The NSESSS-PTSD, the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used to determine validity and reliability. The findings show modest test-retest reliability (r = .43), good internal consistency (Cronbach's α = .81), high convergent validity (r = .78) with PCL-5 and good concurrent validity with the BDI (r = .55) and BAI (r = .50), respectively. A cut-off score of 16 best predicted PTSD from other psychiatric disorders with specificity of .90 and sensitivity of .87. This study reveals sound psychometric properties of the Korean version of the NSESSS-PTSD and supports its use in the clinical population.Background Psychological resilience has grown in popularity as a topic of study in psychotraumatology research; however, this concept remains poorly understood and there are several competing theories of resilience. Objective This study sought to assess the support for one proposed theory of resilience the flexibility sequence. Method This study use secondary data analysis of panel survey data (N = 563). Participants were aged 18 years or over and based in the UK. A series of sequential mediation models was used to test the flexibility sequence theory as a proposed pathway of resilience on mental health outcomes (post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression) among a trauma-exposed sample from the UK. Results The 'feedback' component of the proposed flexibility sequence components was associated with reduced symptom severity with all outcomes, whereas 'context sensitivity' and 'repertoire' were significantly associated only with depression as an outcome. When indirect mediation pathways were modelled via the flexibility sequence, statistically significant effects were observed for all outcomes under investigation. Conclusions These findings support the theorized flexibility sequence pathway of resilience, suggesting that the combination of these skills/processes performs more favourably as a framework of resilience than any in isolation. Further research into more elaborate associations and feedback loops associated with this pathway is warranted.
Traumatic events related to war and displacement may lead to development of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), but many war trauma survivors also report experiencing posttraumatic growth (PTG). However, the phenomenon of PTG remains poorly understood among refugees. Previous findings are also contradictory on whether more PTSS associate with PTG and what specific symptoms or aspects of growth may account for any possible link.

Here, we aimed to better understand posttraumatic growth among refugees, especially its structure and most important constituent elements, as well as how it associates with PTSS. We employed regression and network analysis methods with a large sample (
= 3,159) of Syrian and Iraqi refugees living in Turkey self-reporting on PTG and PTSS.

We found PTG and PTSS to be clearly distinct phenomena. Still, they often co-occurred, with a positive, slightly U-shaped relationship found between levels of PTSS and PTG. The main bridge between the constructs was identified from intrusive symptoms to having new priorities in life, although new priorities were more peripheral to the overall network structure of PTG.
