(2) The income level of the urban and rural residents, the total production of various types of food, dietary structure, the total number of medical and health institutions, the average life expectancy of the Chinese population, and the number of sports venues have been constantly increasing since the reform and opening up, which has effectively promoted the improvement of the nutrition, exercise and health level of Chinese nationals, and it cannot be achieved without the attention and support of the Central Government. However, the change in the lifestyle of Chinese nationals has led to the growth of the modern "Civilization Disease," which is also an important issue that the Central Government needs to handle urgently. The storability recession during storage limits the postharvest storage life of Ponkan (Citrus reticulata Blanco cv. Ponkan) fruit and its nutritional value, which potentially lead to huge losses. To develop an effective technique to reduce Ponkan fruit postharvest decay and to maintain the nutritional quality, the preservation effect of 9, 12, and 15% postharvest gum arabic (GA) coatings on Ponkan fruit was investigated. The 12 and 15% GA coatings effectively reduced fruit decay as well as weight loss, retained higher total soluble solids (TSS) content, suppressed titratable acidity (TA) degradation, and postponed the rise in ripening index (RI). Moreover, the 12% GA-coated fruit exhibited a lower respiration rate, electrical conductivity, and malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulation than the uncoated (control) fruit. The 12% GA coating treatment decreased the loss of ascorbic acid (AsA), total phenols, and total flavonoids and maintained higher amounts of non-enzymatic antioxidants. Furthermore, the 12% GA coating treatment increased antioxidant enzymes' activities as well as delayed the reduction of total antioxidant capacity (TAC). These results suggest that, with the cold storage increasing time, the 12% GA-coated fruit exhibited better postharvest storability and higher nutritional quality than the control fruit. The GA coating treatment could be used as a commercial wax to improve postharvest storability, extend its storage life, and maintain the nutritional value of Ponkan fruit up to 120 days of cold storage.Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained attention as a promising diet for weight loss and dysmetabolic diseases management. This systematic review aimed to investigate the effects of IF on cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs). A systematic literature search was carried out using three electronic databases, namely PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library, until October 2020. Randomized controlled trials that compared the IF intervention with a control group diet were included. Fourteen effect sizes were expressed as weighted mean difference (WMD) using a fixed-effects model and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Compared to the ones within control groups, participants exposed to the IF intervention reduced their body weight (WMD, -1.78 kg; 95% CI, -2.21 to -1.35; p less then 0.05), waist circumference (WMD, -1.19 cm; 95% CI, -1.8 to -0.57; p less then 0.05), fat mass (WMD, -1.26 kg; 95% CI, -1.57 to -0.95; p less then 0.05), body mass index (WMD, -0.58 kg/m2; 95% CI, -0.8 to -0.37; p less then 0.05), systolic blount long-term and well-designed administration to draw definitive conclusions. Background The prevalence of high serum uric acid is increasingly rising in recent years, and diet behavior is perceived to be associated with it. This study aimed to explore the relationship between eating away from home (EAFH) and the risk of high serum uric acid in adults in South China. Methods The data utilized in this study were from Guangdong Nutrition and Health Survey (NHS) 2015. Serum uric acid concentration was detected. EAFH in the past week was investigated. We defined EAFH as food consumption away from home. Dietary data were collected by 24-h recalls on 3 consecutive days. A generalized linear mixed-effects model was applied to compute the odds ratio (OR) and its corresponding 95% CI. Results A total of 3,489 individuals were included in this study. A 1.27-fold OR (95% CI 1.05-1.52, P = 0.012) of high serum uric acid was identified in adults with EAFH in comparison with those without EAFH. With respect to men, a 1.66-fold OR (95% CI 1.3-2.1, P less then 0.001) of high serum uric acid was observed. We also observed that men with EAFH had higher intakes of red meat, poultry, vegetable, carbohydrate, protein, fat, and total energy, while a lower grain intake than those without EAFH. However, there was a lack of significant association between EAFH and the odds ratio of high serum uric acid in women. this website Women with EAFH did not have higher consumptions of red meat, vegetable, fish, fat, and water than those without EAFH. Conclusions This study found that EAFH was associated with an increased odds ratio of high serum uric acid in men, but not in women.Purpose To assess the utility of non-contrast enhanced native T1 mapping of the renal cortex in assessing renal fibrosis for patients with chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN). Methods A total of 119 patients with CGN and 19 healthy volunteers (HVs) were recruited for this study. Among these patients, 43 had undergone kidney biopsy measurements. Clinical information and biopsy pathological scores were collected. According to the results of the renal biopsy, the patients were classified into the high (25-50%), low ( less then 25%) and no renal interstitial fibrosis (IF) (0%) groups. The correlations between the T1 value in the renal cortex and each of the clinical parameters were separately analyzed. The relationships between each fibrosis group and the T1 value were also evaluated and compared between groups. Binary logistic regression analysis was further used to determine the relationship between the T1 value and renal fibrosis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to analyze the diagnostibrosis was 1,695 ms, with a specificity of 0.778 and a sensitivity of 0.625. Conclusion Native T1 mapping demonstrated good diagnostic performance in evaluating renal function and was an effective noninvasive method for detecting renal fibrosis in CGN patients. Background Today's machine-learning based dermatologic research has largely focused on pigmented/non-pigmented lesions concerning skin cancers. However, studies on machine-learning-aided diagnosis of depigmented non-melanocytic lesions, which are more difficult to diagnose by unaided eye, are very few. Objective We aim to assess the performance of deep learning methods for diagnosing vitiligo by deploying Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and comparing their diagnosis accuracy with that of human raters with different levels of experience. Methods A Chinese in-house dataset (2,876 images) and a world-wide public dataset (1,341 images) containing vitiligo and other depigmented/hypopigmented lesions were constructed. Three CNN models were trained on close-up images in both datasets. The results by the CNNs were compared with those by 14 human raters from four groups expert raters (>10 years of experience), intermediate raters (5-10 years), dermatology residents, and general practitioners. F1 score, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), specificity, and sensitivity metrics were used to compare the performance of the CNNs with that of the raters. Results For the in-house dataset, CNNs achieved a comparable F1 score (mean [standard deviation]) with expert raters (0.8864 [0.005] vs. 0.8933 [0.044]) and outperformed intermediate raters (0.7603 [0.029]), dermatology residents (0.6161 [0.068]) and general practitioners (0.4964 [0.139]). For the public dataset, CNNs achieved a higher F1 score (0.9684 [0.005]) compared to the diagnosis of expert raters (0.9221 [0.031]). Conclusion Properly designed and trained CNNs are able to diagnose vitiligo without the aid of Wood's lamp images and outperform human raters in an experimental setting.Chronic histiocytic intervillositis (CHI) is a rare, but highly recurrent inflammatory placental lesion wherein maternal macrophages infiltrate the intervillous space. Pregnancies with CHI are at high risk of fetal growth restriction, miscarriage or stillbirth. Presently, the diagnosis can only be made after histopathological examination of the placenta. Given its proposed immunological etiology, current treatments include aspirin, heparin, and immunomodulatory agents. However, the rationale for these medications is largely based upon small case series and reports as there is a lack of larger studies investigating treatment efficacy. Therefore, this study sought to determine whether inclusion of immunomodulatory medications was effective at reducing the severity of lesions and improving pregnancy outcomes in subsequent pregnancies. Thirty-three women with a history of CHI in at least one pregnancy (index case) were identified retrospectively through medical records. Twenty-eight participants presented with a athological lesions and the chance of livebirth in subsequent pregnancies. Due to CHI's rarity and ethical and feasibility issues, randomized controlled trials in affected women are challenging to conduct. As a result, collaboration between centers is required in future to increase study sample sizes and elucidate the mechanisms of hydroxychloroquine and prednisolone in reducing pathology.Purpose To evaluate the long-term retinal microvascular, neural, and choroidal changes in the patients with severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) following panretinal photocoagulation (PRP). Methods Forty-five eyes of 28 patients with treatment-naive severe NPDR and PDR were included and followed for 12 months after PRP. Microvascular and neural changes in the macular and peripapillary areas were assessed by using optical coherence tomography angiography. Subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) was measured by using optical coherence tomography. A Linear mixed-effects model was used to highlight the differences for the variables after adjusting for sex, age, and axial length. Results Compared to baseline, there were no statistical differences in the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), macular and peripapillary vessel density (VD), and SFCT following PRP. Macular thickness significantly increased at 1 and 3-6 months after PRP (p less then 0.05), while the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness significantly increased at 1 month postoperatively (p less then 0.01). Global loss volume and focal loss volume significantly decreased at the same time point (p less then 0.05). Conclusion The unchanged BCVA, VD, the thickness of RNFL and GCC, and SFCT during the 12-month follow-up period suggest that PRP may prevent the retinal neurovascular and choroidal damage. Background Several studies using bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) reported that lung microbial communities were associated with the development and clinical outcome of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). However, the microbial communities in IPF lung tissues are not well known. This study is aimed to investigate bacterial microbial communities in lung tissues and determine their impact on the clinical outcomes of patients with IPF. Methods Genomic DNA extracted from lung tissues of patients with IPF (n = 20; 10 non-survivors) and age- and sex-matched controls (n = 20) was amplified using fusion primers targeting the V3 and V4 regions of the 16S RNA genes with indexing barcodes. Results Mean age of IPF subjects was 63.3 yr, and 65% were male. Alpha diversity indices did not significantly differ between IPF patients and controls, or between IPF non-survivors and survivors. The relative abundance of Lactobacillus, Paracoccus, and Akkermansia was increased, whereas that of Caulobacter, Azonexus, and Undibacterium decreased in patients with IPF compared with that in the controls.
